The lounging area. Pretty dead on a Thursday night in August. Friday night- there's a DJ starting at 9pm. Pools open! I didn't mind the decor. They need more good beer on tap...may I suggest Paperback Brewing from Glendale, Ca?

Scuttled in just my luck to trivia night! Occupied a corner booth with my orange wine by myself. Could not participate due to my unfortunate thin breadth of data on earlier American pop culture but happily observed the festivities. Orange wine was tasty. The food was unnervingly overpriced. Bartender was friendly. Atmosphere was lively. Queen hostess really brought the roof down. Was accused of espionage by my suspicious booth neighbors due to my single company but that only delighted me. Noticeably older and queer crowd but that's what I assumed Ace Hotel was known for hosting. Great night :)

We loved vampy ambience of the Amigo Room. Drinks are strong and bartenders are friendly.

Linda Bingo! Yeah that's right...Monday night bingo with Linda. She was amazingly funny and entertaining. She hosts free bingo night on Mondays at the Amigo Room and the prizes were things such as koozies, boxed wine, champagne, chips, and pies. What fun! Waiters and bartenders were super nice. They have a unique bar menu, but we were so focused on bingo, we stuck with the basics...fries and bean dip, both of which were really delicious. They have a few beers on tap and a few more bottled varieties. Dive bar diner in the desert. It's decor reminds me of El Dorado in SD. Sure, maybe I didn't feel hipster enough for this place, but it was still a great time.

This was an interesting place some good singing, not to bad of singers when we were there, fun place to people watch. Drinks were not good, when you went to the bar to order drinks they were quick to attend to you, but def needs help in making better drinks. Overall not a bad place, could be fun if you were with a group and liked singing.

Where else in the desert would you find: A) not only strong and good cocktails and B) a strong play list? No where! I am a music nerd and pretty much a music snob on top of that. I'll snub off any crap music and that is why one of the main reasons I loathe venturing out to bars in the desert! NOT ANY MORE! While chatting it up with some friends here we heard Dungen!! I was shocked!! Where else could one get Bjork, Beta Band, Dungen, Neil Diamond and Hercules and Love Affair in the desert? That is just to name a few... Best part came when we danced our arses off to a DJ set done by Susan in Accounting!! My only regret was that I didn't try the Jack and Lavender. The bf said no to Jack because I turn into "Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde".. I think not but whatever. I was on a Tinto de Verano kick and didn't want to mix! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4TTXYKViIc

The bar was backed up so we each ordered two drinks at once to save on the wait time. The Mint cocktails all around. We started with truffle fries to share and the touch of rosemary made them extra tasty. Plus with their homemade ranch! This was too good. We ordered a couple dishes like the charred cauliflower, flatbreads, bruschetta, and short rib. The cauliflower was very flavorful especially with the pistachios. The short rib was a hefty and meaty dish, very good. The mushroom bruschetta was loaded with mushrooms and really good with the garlic chili oil. Shout out to Brooklyn! The most edible item was the date appetizer, but not worth the price for 5 little dates. We ordered a salad, the half chicken entree, a flatbread and the short rib entree. The chicken was so tough we couldn't cut into it and sent it back, despite our rude waiter trying to gaslight us into believing it should be served that way and we must just not like it. The short rib, which came with mashed potatoes and asparagus looked as if it had been sitting under a lamp for an hour. It was cold, flavorless and the potatoes could literally be picked up in one chunk. The disco sun shareable cocktail was good, but we had to send back the crushed olive martini as well. It was pink and tasted somewhere between a fireball experiment and lighter fluid. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. There should have been some kind of apology but we were met with attitude and disrespect despite a nearly $300 bill for a mostly inedible meal. The prices are INSANE for being so terrible.

The drinks were strong and well-made, and even though the place was packed, our waitress stayed attentive and checked in with us consistently. It's clear they specialize in more elaborate cocktails, so a bit of a wait is understandable. The ambiance is also a highlight--dark, intimate, and really leans into the tiki vibe. **Night two** was the complete opposite. We accidentally mixed up our reservation time, but since the place was nearly empty, we were seated right away, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, everything went downhill from there. We had a different waitress, and despite being one of only a few parties there when we arrived, we waited **45 minutes** without seeing our drinks--while other groups seated after us were already being served (and even getting second rounds). We eventually had to flag down our waitress, who had hardly checked on us at all. When we asked about the delay, she said they were "very busy,". After mentioning how long we'd been waiting, there wasn't any real apology--just visible annoyance. She told us our drinks were "up next," but after another 20 minutes passed with nothing, we decided to leave after over an hour of waiting. It was disappointing, especially after such a positive first experience. A simple apology or some communication would have gone a long way. Sadly, the inconsistency makes it hard to know which version of this place you're going to get.

It caught our attention as we had stayed in two different Kimpton Hotels in Seattle prior. We wanted to grab a drink at the Window Bar (not knowing that was its actual name, but the conversation we had with the bartender about that window shining too much light at certain parts of the morning definitely gave me a chuckle in hindsight). We happened to be a bit early since he had not been able to finish setting up shop yet. We went ahead and waited until he was ready without rushing him because we ourselves weren't in any rush at all. Surrounded by a ton of nice interesting artwork, it was a pure joy to enjoy a drink or two in this environment. The bar can be found at the corner on the other side of the hotel concierge in plain sight from such a big space for a lobby, directly left upon entrance through the front. Since it was slow in the morning, we were able to chat it up with the bartender and even explore a bit of experimentation in the form of a particular top secret cocktail that every mixologist knows. I definitely exercised my etiquette and reading the conditions to even suggest it. He couldn't be any nicer about our time with him. So yeah, Christopher H. from 9/9/18, I don't know what you're talking about. I make it a point to visit the bar at any Kimpton location nowadays. I always seem to have a good time. But then again, I can only speak for myself. Parking: Street, unless you're a guest at the hotel. FYI: - Despite the hours on Yelp saying this place is open from 4-10pm, they might open earlier, as we joined in at around 11am or noon. But don't hold me to it. The Cacio e Pepe was one of the standout dishes of the week. Those thick noodles were fantastic. We also ordered the Steak Frites and upgraded to filet. Neil was welcoming, accommodating, and personally secured a table for our party of six when we returned after 9pm. His hospitality and the venue concept itself are excellent. Unfortunately, the service we received afterward from another staff member, Billy, did not match that standard. The venue is extremely dark, so we used the small table lamp to read the menu. Billy instructed us not to use it because it "wasn't the vibe of the establishment," and told us to use our phone lights instead. The tone was abrupt and dismissive. Around 9:50pm he announced last call. When one guest ordered, his response was, "I guess if you must." Others asked for a moment to decide and were repeatedly rushed. We explained we weren't aware they closed as 10, as Neil had told us it would be open seating after 10. He replied, "Yeah, well I'm closing tonight and I'm closing at 10." When drinks were delivered, they were set down forcefully. As we were leaving, a member of our group overheard Billy speaking negatively about us to another employee, including mocking someone in our group for needing glasses to read the menu and implying she was intoxicated (she wasn't). When this was addressed directly, he did not apologize and instead insisted we had overstayed, which is inaccurate. We ordered promptly after being told last call and left after finishing our drinks. We are locals who intentionally brought out-of-town guests here because we wanted them to have a great experience. It's disappointing that one staff member's conduct overshadowed what should have been a highlight of their visit. I won't assign motives, but I will note that Billy's demeanor noticeably shifted after the final member of our group, who happens to be Black, arrived. I cannot determine why, only that the change in tone was clear. Neil has created something special here. However, a venue's reputation ultimately depends on how guests are treated when ownership is not present. Based on this visit, there is a significant gap between the hospitality the owner provides and the service delivered in his absence. I hope Neil takes a close look at what happens when he's not present, because with the right staff, this could easily be a place we'd want to return to.
