We have been going to Tom's Dim Sum for lunch while in town to visit family for about a decade. It has earned our love and devotion due to incredibly friendly and helpful service, a warm and welcoming ambiance, and delectable and affordable food! From the moment you walk in the door, the wait staff take great care of you. They make sure you are happy with your table, your order, and experience overall. So helpful and friendly. That makes all the difference. The food is delicious. In the past we've had hot tea to drink and it is always a great choice. Over the years we've had many appetizers, but the pork and chive dumplings and all the soup dumplings are our favorite. We love crafting our own dipping sauces using the 4 different options on the table (dumpling sauce, chili sauce, vinegar, and soy sauce). Yum! We've also had many meals over the year, but our favorite is the lunch meal deal. This includes a smaller meal portion over rice for a lunch price. It keeps us coming back for lunch year after year! The chicken with garlic sauce is my absolute favorite. My husband mixes it up a lot, but he really enjoyed his orange chicken this time. One time we came for dinner with a large group and the servers took such good care of us. They even provided a chop-stick tool and guided demonstration for the kids with us. It was so sweet! I for some reason can't escape getting pick up orders from this place. I always avoid it when it pops up but unfortunately can't when it's a bundle delivery. i understand thy get busy good for them But when someone walks in that is not white they never acknowledge you. They don't say hello or we will be right with you nothing. however let a white person or Asian walk in the immediately greet them. Do better. Due to me having a bad cold, I decided to Chinese food via DoorDash. I read the reviews here on my favorite review site and decided to try this restaurant. I ordered the Spring Rolls (2), General Tso's Shrimp and Shrimp Fried Rice. This was my first time trying General Tso's Shrimp and it was very well prepared. The perfect amount of heat and sweet. The Shrimp Fried Rice was freshly prepared and I appreciated the size of the shrimp as well. I wasn't a fan of the Spring Rolls and unfortunately the General Tso's Shrimp were soggy, due to the packaging and travel. One reason I prefer not to use food delivery services. $7.95 for soup dumplings is a STEAL. Stopped in for a solo lunch and it was great. Caters to the demographic of "Chinese takeout" food but some great Shanghainese classics like rice cakes, soup dumplings, and soup noodles. You never find soup dumplings for that price anymore. The skin is a little more thicker that I prefer but to each their own. Gobbled up crab soup dumplings and a plate of Shanghai fried noodles and left happy. read more

This was our third time at Tom's Dim Sum, the second as a larger group. Food is always delicious and the service is always friendly. This time was a bit awkward with our group as it is a smaller restaurant and I don't quite think they were prepared for us in a Friday night even though we had made a reservation. Crowd favorites were the chicken soup dumpling, Shanghai shumai, chicken skewers, and for dessert the piggy buns. This is a BYOB, so definitely consider bringing a bottle of wine if you're headed here for a casual date night! read more

unfortunately I'd say Toms is hit or miss, much better if you eat in but for take out it's rarely been GREAT. I just had a terrible meal from here, we ordered pork soup dumplings and most of them were broken (I was very careful with the take out bag as I knew what was inside) and the general tso's chicken was basically inedible due to being way overcooked and extremely dry. $80 down the drain. I did call the restaurant with my complaint and they offered to replace the problem food tonight only- not helpful IMO. I'll try other establishments instead in the future. read more

Sour, strong pickled flavor but also sweet. I really did not like this dish. Could not take a bite and keep it down. Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaves [4/5] Really good sticky rice. But just compared to our other dishes this one kinda fell in the shadow. The flavors aren't strong so not really memorable but still your typical zhong zi. And I really craved it so def good lol. First time came here and when we first got here, it was pretty empty (around 1:30 pm on a Saturday). Have heard of their dim sum and wanted to try here. after we ordered, there came 5 other groups of customers. We had the pork and crab soup dumpling. It came out quick and very juicy. The beef stir-fried noodle was good too! Very flavorful and well done. The sticky rice with chicken came in two small pieces, but with lots of stuffing. Overall this was a great meal. Everything we ordered came out really good. The only downside would be that they were all on the salty side... All the staff working there are super friendly too! read more

Decided to come here today for my birthday. Good decision! Today I have another good look at its menu, and to my surprise, this place's Chinese name is "Shanghai Garden"!!! Overall, a very disappointing experience. The Dim Sum was authentic and good. However, I asked the waiter a genuine question and his answer was offensive "cut the bulls--- and order" was his response. I was basically in shock. We sit down and they hand us three glasses, one of which was totally cracked. It took 10 minutes to get a new one. When we finally ordered we asked f they could add one additional soup dumpling so we had an even amount across our table and the waiter goes "no, we don't do that." Um, I mean ok. You CAN. But ok then. Enough of the unkind people semantics - the food. Chicken soup dumplings (5)- there was definitely enough for a sixth (just saying). Not a ton of soup inside and kind of cold. Had better elsewhere. Shrimp shumai (4) - large, filling. Solid dish. Fried vegetable dumplings (5) - full of vegetables but not a ton of flavor. Duck over rice (small portion) - sadly not a lot of meat. More fat and bone on the plate. Seafood fried rice - not really much of a fry to it or sauce on top. Decent amount of shrimp and scallop. Wonton soup - sizable wontons, flavorful Pork and chive dumpling noodle soup - udon noodles with five large pork and chive dumplings. Few pieces of bok choy, but not much else to it. Sautéed baby bok choy- massive plate sautéed in garlic. Pretty solid. Totally share this with your table. Food was fine, but the service and impoliteness was REALLY not cool. If it was Media's Restaurant Week, I wasn't aware. Presented with a Restaurant Week menu, we chose the Supreme Combo: 4 dim sums, two entrees and sweet piggy buns. Plenty of food for the three of us, priced right at $45, with leftovers I enjoyed the following day. The last time I had dim sum was prior to the pandemic in my favorite NYC spot -- the kind of place with rolling carts. Coming here was a treat, though I miss the spontaneity of pointing-and-picking (which post-COVID may be a thing of the past.) Simply put, we enjoyed everything we tried. Our tofu was crisp, as we like it, and the beef was tender and flavorful. My daughter, who developed a taste for numbing beef -- which this wasn't -- thought it a bit mild. I liked it just as it was. Came here with my dad for Chinese New Year! The staff was really welcoming and were on top of everything we needed while we dined in. We got a variety of dim sum dishes: crab + pork soup dumplings, crystal shrimp dumplings, shrimp rice crepes, fried shrimp balls, Hong Kong shu mai and scallion pancakes. We also tried the beef chow fun and I got the roast duck noodle soup. Everything was delicious! My favorite was def. The fried shrimp balls since it had a lot of shrimp in them. The crab+pork soup dumplings were good but needed more seasoning in the broth. My roast duck soup was good but at that point I was so full from the dim sum I took the noodle soup home. Tom's is still good, but somehow, not as good as pre-pandemic Tom's. Plus there is a direct competitor - Dim Sumania - 2 doors down with the original onwer and some of the staff. Meanwhile, Har Gao (Crystal Shrimp Dumpling) are always tasty and the roast pork (cold) appetizer was good, too. I was told "Duck takes longer" I asked...so why didn't you start the shrimp later??? Check arrives get charged 29.95 for the Duck menu clearly stated 24.95...when I brought it to the cashier I was told the waiter should have told me...HE DID NOT!!! Just okay. Thought we'd give it a try since we usually go to Dim Sum Mania two doors down. Now we know we will keep going there. Tom's is smaller and not as new looking. For the same price, you get less quantity at Tom's. Also, the flavor is just not as good. Not as authentically Shanghainese Dim Sum, as it advertises. The eggplant was some combo of chili, water chestnut, onions, and very little actual eggplant. The eggplant skin was so tough it couldn't be chewed. The other food was ordinary in flavor, nothing special. The fried potsticker buns have too thick of a dough with a filling that only has soy sauce flavor. The food is fine, it's not bad, but not great either. Service is fast, polite. read more

Really wanted some hot soup on this cold snowy fall day. Stopped here for lunch and was completely satisfied. Very comfortable nicely decorated restaurant. The service was excellent, very friendly and attentive. Hot tea was promptly placed on the table. I was tempted to try some of the dim sum but ordered the soup. My Shanghai Wonton Noodle Soup was the best I have had. The broth was flavorful, clear and not overly salted. The noodles were made on site and were tender and not starchy. The wontons were delicate and full of flavorful meat. A lot of fresh greens topped it all off. Next time I am in Media this will be a definite stop. read more

We wanted to take my friend to dim sum garden in Philly for her birthday but she didn't want people to have to drive there, so she picked this place. The drive here turned out to be longer than it would have been to get to Philly because of the traffic, but we found a lot with free parking which was good. We found out on the way that the reservation was moved back because people were coming late. We go in and get seated and we are still waiting for people. But our waitresses came to take our drink order and brought out tea. They came over to our tables multiple times asking us if we were ready to order. Seemed a little pressured to order, but we did anyway cause we were tired of waiting for people and we were hungry. My husband and I ended up ordering a bunch of small plates. The plates randomly came out as they were done. The birthday girl got all her food first, I guess they planned it that way. We ordered both the pork soup dumplings and crabmeat pork soup dumplings. These were my favorite, the dumpling was tender and exploded in your mouth with flavor when you bit into it. Couldn't really taste much of a difference between the crab pork and the regular pork though. Husband wanted the pork bun. It was a sweet bun almost like a Kings Hawaiian bun but with some pork and sauce in it. It was ok, I didn't like it as much as him. Also got the shrimp shamai. We were told to get the scallion pancake as well- delicious. The fried pork was also really good- was perfectly fried and crispy and the meat was tender. It was good that we got that cause all our other dishes were doughy starchy foods, this was the only real meaty item we got, it helped balance out the meal. We only got small plates because we wanted to sample a bunch of different things. It filled us up pretty much, but later I was feeling like I could have used an actual meal. Maybe next time. We might try going back- we wanted to go to a Christmas bar nearby and might stop here afterwards. The birthday girl and everyone enjoyed their dinner, so it was a good night. read more

Just wanted to leave a quick update for my review because we had another great experience at Tom's this weekend. They were SO nice when coordinating a large group dinner, even when we had some people arrive late and also had to adjust the number of guests in our party. I felt bad for all of the adjustments, but they were very understanding about it. Our food also came out very quickly, and it was all piping hot & delicious. A new dish we tried this time was the Crispy Tofu, which was really nice. All the other favorites that we got were just as great as usual.
