Shrimp Fried Rice, General Tso's Shrimp and Spring Rolls (2)
    Donna W.

Due to me having a bad cold, I decided to Chinese food via DoorDash. I read the reviews here on my favorite review site and decided to try this restaurant. I ordered the Spring Rolls (2), General Tso's Shrimp and Shrimp Fried Rice. This was my first time trying General Tso's Shrimp and it was very well prepared. The perfect amount of heat and sweet. The Shrimp Fried Rice was freshly prepared and I appreciated the size of the shrimp as well. I wasn't a fan of the Spring Rolls and unfortunately the General Tso's Shrimp were soggy, due to the packaging and travel. One reason I prefer not to use food delivery services. However, I will definitely try them again when I'm well and can visit in person.

Do not buy food from here unless you like eating bugs. I can't believe I found a worm in my broccoli. That means they don't clean any of the food. Everything was terrible quality. We even found a roach in the dumpling

This place is sooo good!!!!! I live in Florida and whenever we are in town I make sure my family takes us to Tom's Dim Sum. The food is so fresh and the flavor is so authentic. I already know what I want to eat when I come back next year

$7.95 for soup dumplings is a STEAL. Stopped in for a solo lunch and it was great. Caters to the demographic of "Chinese takeout" food but some great Shanghainese classics like rice cakes, soup dumplings, and soup noodles. You never find soup dumplings for that price anymore. The skin is a little more thicker that I prefer but to each their own. Gobbled up crab soup dumplings and a plate of Shanghai fried noodles and left happy.

This was our third time at Tom's Dim Sum, the second as a larger group. Food is always delicious and the service is always friendly. This time was a bit awkward with our group as it is a smaller restaurant and I don't quite think they were prepared for us in a Friday night even though we had made a reservation. Crowd favorites were the chicken soup dumpling, Shanghai shumai, chicken skewers, and for dessert the piggy buns. This is a BYOB, so definitely consider bringing a bottle of wine if you're headed here for a casual date night!

Wowowow, loved this place. I was kind of worried though at first. I thought the food here wouldn't be too authentic because of the town and the people in it (i really mean no offense!!!) My friends and I were the only Asians in the restaurant. I'd assume that the food was tailored to accommodate the taste of the current clientele. But gosh was I wrong. This is super tasty authentic Dim Sun and I'm so happy because it was just that good:) Pork Soup Dumplings [5/5] Soup Dumplings were def a hit. Lots of juice inside. Hot & Sour Soup [5/5] Super tasty. Classic flavors, good portion. We got a Small but we're able to share among 4+ people. Shredded Pork [1/5] Not a huge fan of this. Sour, strong pickled flavor but also sweet. I really did not like this dish. Could not take a bite and keep it down. Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaves [4/5] Really good sticky rice. But just compared to our other dishes this one kinda fell in the shadow. The flavors aren't strong so not really memorable but still your typical zhong zi. And I really craved it so def good lol. Beef Ho Fun 5/5 Yummy. Good portions. Super tasty!!!

Get the piggy buns! So cute. Overall I like this place, everything we got was solid. Their soup buns are good contenders. They've got all your dim sum staples and more, so worth a try if you're craving some bao.

Decided to come here today for my birthday. Good decision! Today I have another good look at its menu, and to my surprise, this place's Chinese name is "Shanghai Garden"!!! No wonder so many dishes remind me of my hometown. Other than the sticky rice pudding that has this weird syrup, everything else is very authentic Shanghai flavor.

BYOB. BYOB. BYOB. I'm going to start by saying that three times because at no point on the website did it say that and until we walked into the restaurant and saw it on the front sign did we know. Very frustrating and when we asked the staff for the closest wine store, they told us to "put it in Google"... That wasn't even the worst part. After seeing my confirmation email about our reservation, we showed up 5 minutes before. The restaurant was PACKED with several new tables recently sat. We had a party of three so two two-top tables were sat even though they came after us. FORTY minutes after showing up, we were FINALLY seated. So much for making a reservation when it didn't matter. We sit down and they hand us three glasses, one of which was totally cracked. It took 10 minutes to get a new one. When we finally ordered we asked f they could add one additional soup dumpling so we had an even amount across our table and the waiter goes "no, we don't do that." Um, I mean ok. You CAN. But ok then. Enough of the unkind people semantics - the food. Chicken soup dumplings (5)- there was definitely enough for a sixth (just saying). Not a ton of soup inside and kind of cold. Had better elsewhere. Shrimp shumai (4) - large, filling. Solid dish. Fried vegetable dumplings (5) - full of vegetables but not a ton of flavor. Duck over rice (small portion) - sadly not a lot of meat. More fat and bone on the plate. Seafood fried rice - not really much of a fry to it or sauce on top. Decent amount of shrimp and scallop. Wonton soup - sizable wontons, flavorful Pork and chive dumpling noodle soup - udon noodles with five large pork and chive dumplings. Few pieces of bok choy, but not much else to it. Sautéed baby bok choy- massive plate sautéed in garlic. Pretty solid. Totally share this with your table. Food was fine, but the service and impoliteness was REALLY not cool. Won't be back.

Dim sum: scallion pancakes, crab & cheese ragoon, and I forgot the third item: perhaps fried pork & chives dumpling ...

Although the decor is simple, the bold use of red and gold makes it highly memorable--and the space is very clean. Even though the bowls and chopsticks are disposable, there's clear attention to detail. The chopsticks feel great to use, and they are even engraved with "上海小笼," which is a thoughtful touch. The bowls are made of thick, sturdy paper, with a beautiful red base and gold rim--both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly. Ordering is done through a self-service kiosk, but there are still staff members nearby. When it's not busy, they are friendly and happy to assist with any questions. The Noodle in Scallion Sauce (上海葱油拌麵) has a rich scallion oil flavor with perfectly chewy noodles, while the Cold Noodle w. Peanut Butter Sauce (麻將涼拌麵) is packed with a strong peanut flavor and equally chewy texture. Both dishes are delicious and taste very similar to Taiwanese sesame noodles. Every dish is served fresh and hot, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality. Whenever I'm in Edison, I can't help but come back to try more items on the menu.

The service is very friendly and patient (and American friendly). The food comes out lightning fast. Everything is very reasonably priced. Best of all, it's all delicious. I tried stuff outside of my comfort zone and I loved it all. My favorite were the pork juicy buns (soup dumplings) but the most unique thing was the pan fried noodle which was like a crispy deep fried noodle that would soften as it sat in the sauce. The golden lava buns were sweet and rich and perfect for dessert.

We were second standing outdoors waiting in this big fat long line. Immediately upon opening for the day the line nearly forced entry near stampede and this cafe was immediately packed to full occupancy of patrons with free seating. The Yelp reviews are accurate and truthful. The food is great. This is a small cafe with only approximately eight tables. I do not recommend large parties of five and greater. It is no-frills, but not exactly "hole in the wall" type that lack in aesthetics for upscale lavish atmosphere but the deficiency is resolved in the food quality. There is one sole functioning restroom in the whole business, ergo, stand in line and wait. We entered hungry in a lugubrious sense of deep sorrow, but exited hunger pangs fulfilled. When exiting upon completion of our lunch meal, there was a line that quickly formed outdoors waiting. Unfortunately, access to this cafe in Edison, NJ is by car only and there is a free parking lot that is shared with neighboring businesses located in a small shopping complex. There are no business cards, and no takeout menus available. Customer service is efficient as the staff worked methodically hustling busy to take orders and fulfillment. Our male waiter was attentive to respond to our inquiries and make suggestions based on our desires. I was able to keep the sales receipt. Price is in the rationale realm of stagflation totaling $41.75. Nota Bene: No table hibernation as the table turnover is fast pace with a line overflowing outdoors which cannot interrupt the flow. My foodie synopsis: Pork steam soup dumplings, 6 pcs, siu2 lung4 baau1, 小籠包, $8.75 Very juicy, flavorful and great. It was served piping hot. This is my favorite default dish for every visit at any Shanghainese ethnic cuisine. However, there were no serving tongs provided for this particular appetizer which is industry standard. Preserved cabbage with pork noodle soup, syut3 coi3 juk6 si1 min6, 雪菜肉絲麵 $9.50 This is a satisfying Chinese comfort food. This noodle soup was abundant with noodles, pork and chopped vegetables. It provided warmth to my very broken heart. Shanghai chicken in wine sauce, zeoi3 gai1, 醉雞, $8.95 A traditional Chinese cold appetizer, aka Chinese Drunken chicken made with Chinese Shaoxing cooking wine. It has amazing flavor and texture to be deliciously enticing. Of course, the cooking wine brings flavor to this appetizer making you want more. Shanghai pan fried U-Don noodle, soeng6 hoi2 cou1 caau2 min6, 上海粗炒面, $11.95 Abundant noodles with good consistency and it not heavily filled with grease and oil.

I was flipping ecstatic when I saw this place was still open and survived the C-Word. I felt so at home eating the food I had back in my college days with my original order. I will say that the restaurant did downsize, however I'm just happy that they're still there to begin with, just in case I haven't elaborated. The decor did get a nice lift and more modern than the back of the day set up. I think it's cute. I believe the young lady that's been there for years may have been the owner the whole time and I was just too oblivious to actually pay attention. The server herself... I felt bad that she couldn't really understand me as my order was incorrect on what I was missing in my soup. My usual from back in the day was Beef and Beef Tendon Noodle Soup, and I would always ask for tripe with mixed beef intestines... so I was missing the intestines but genuinely didn't really think of it as a big deal since I just wanted to taste the food again. Overall, soup, 15/10. The XLB's are just goodness and warms my soul and lord have mercy how much I have missed these little puppies. I need to let everyone know that there is no good XLB's in the San Jose or East Bay Area of California. Complete disappointment. But that's just my opinion. Shanghai Noodle House's XLB's 20/10

We came on a Sunday around 1pm and about half the tables were occupied so there was no wait. First thing I noticed is the inside is all different, maybe newer looking. They must have changed ownership from when I last came. The food wasn't authentic and wasn't good. We ordered soup dumplings, sweet soy milk, savory soy milk, and pan fried dumplings. Soup dumplings- the good thing is here they give you 8 pieces (vs 6 pieces in other NJ places). The skin is too thin. It was difficult to pick up with a chopstick or spoon and not 1 piece stayed intact while picking it up. All of the soup leaked out before it even reached my plate. The texture of the skin was "slippery" vs the bouncy kind I usually see with soup dumplings. My husband said he bit into a small piece of bone which is weird. Sweet soy milk- it wasn't a smooth drink. There were lots of soy grits Savory soy milk- tasted very watered down. Didn't have much soy milk flavor Pan fried dumplings- the portion was generous with 6 huge pan fried dumplings. These are the largest I've seen anywhere. They look more like buns than dumplings!! It was ok but overall it didn't taste like a pan fried dumpling. The owners seem really nice and friendly, chatting with some of the customers. Their service was good too. It's just the food isn't authentically Shanghainese.
