The restaurant is beautiful and clean. Service was great. The final result in our soup dumplings is what disappointed us. All our dumplings were stuck to the bottom of the steam basket and all broke. Sad times.

Great service and food! We ordered the veggie, shrimp, and chicken dumplings. All were delicious. My favorite is the pan fried option. The soups were delicious too and had a good portion size. It was easy to get a table and service was fast. Great spot to get lunch if you're shopping in the area.

Wu's Shanghai Dumpling really surprised me - I didn't think I was going to be able to find authentic Chinese food in North Brunswick, but I was mistaken! I was able to get my xiao long bao fix on a weekday night without having to travel to Edison. Pros: This restaurant has some solid food. The xiao long bao was filled with meat (we ordered crab and pork and were surprised at how much crab was actually in there!) Though the dumpling skin was on the thicker side, it worked in our favor since we didn't have any breakage accidents when picking them out of the steamer basket. The pan fried buns were a hit as well -- flavorful, juicy, and probably the crispiest ones I've ever had. The wontons in peanut butter sauce were great as well, as it seems like Wu's has perfected their fillings for dumplings and wontons. So good and definitely recommend getting those dishes! Cons: The pan fried noodles were definitely...interesting, with a taste we couldn't really pinpoint. We were surprised at the amount of chicken on the noodle but the sauce didn't have any distinct meaty flavor, or even a soy sauce flavor like others we have had. The noodles themselves were on the thinner, frail side and didn't hold up well with this sauce. The noodles just ended up becoming mush after letting them sit for 15 min! We also got the bubble tea and...it's a hard no from me. It was extremely sweet and to my surprise lacked any actual tea, which was a disappointment since we saw other tables have it and it looked promising! Overall, Wu's is a hit or miss. I will definitely be returning for those fried pork buns and soup dumplings, so it seems like a great restaurant to get your dim sum fix! (Even though on this menu, many dim sum items were unavailable. Be warned!)

I was surprised this place had a 4.8 on Google reviews, but turns out you get a free drink if you give them 5 stars on there, so that explains it. The food items here were either good or not, so I'll sort it out. Everyone I ate with, although the food wasn't hated, didn't love it enough to want to return. With Edison so close by, there's just better restaurants. Good: - Beef pancakes. Pancakes were flavorful and crispy. - Wine chicken was solid. Good portion size compared to other restaurants. - Pork dumpling soup was good, but the bun is just thicker than I'm used to. Not so good: - Beef noodle soup was terrible. Weak flavor, but the part that made it really bad was the quality of the meat - A few thinly sliced pieces of beef that were chewy and as dry as sandpaper. - The shrimp dumpling, while not horrible, wasn't great either. I'm a huge fan of shrimp dumplings, but the ones here didn't have me wanting more. It wasn't that flavorful, and the texture was more mushy. Service could be improved--They appeared a bit understaffed. We also asked for bowls for the soup, and our waitress never returned with them so we picked them up ourselves on the side. Interior was comfortable and modern with comfy, plush chairs, but some appeared to have light stains. For takeout, I paid for the mango pomelo drink with coconut panna cotta since I didn't feel comfortable leaving 5 stars to get it comped, especially after some dishes that let me down. The drink was actually my favorite part of the meal and the only thing I would come back for if I were passing by.

When my husband suggested trying out a new dumpling spot, I eagerly grabbed my coat and purse, ready to go. Wu's Shanghai Dumpling has two locations: one in Edison and another in North Brunswick. For this review, I'm only focusing on the North Brunswick location. Upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised to discover the North Brunswick location, especially since it's closer to home. The entrance was marked by charming dumplings hanging from strings, setting the tone for the sleek and modern ambiance. The feng shui of the space was exceptional. After scanning the menu, we made our choices: ~ Pork Xiao Long Bao - The dumplings had a thicker skin than I'm used to, but the filling was exceptional--plenty of filling and flavorful soup. ~ Cold Chicken with Chopped Scallions - A flavorful dish, though there were some sharp shards in the chicken from when it was cut into bite-sized pieces, so eat carefully. It was drenched in a delicious ginger-scallion oil sauce. However, it calls for a bowl of rice, which the restaurant unfortunately doesn't offer. My suggestion would be to add plain rice as a side. ~ Noodles with Wu's Signature Spicy Pork Egg - Delicious! If you've ever wondered what a scotch egg and a jammy egg would taste like, this dish has perfected that combination. ~ Shanghainese Salty Tofu Bowl - This was the standout dish of the meal. It was fantastic! The balance of sweet, salty, and spicy flavors was perfect. It left us craving more. Again, rice would have made this dish even better. The service was good, though there were a few minor hiccups. Some of our dishes could have been cleared away sooner, as they stayed on the table while new dishes were brought out. Additionally, we had an order mix-up that caused a delay. When we asked about our missing noodle dish, the server checked with the kitchen and discovered it hadn't been entered. Thankfully, it was quickly resolved, and the dish arrived shortly after. One thing I did appreciate was how efficiently the staff cleaned the tables as soon as guests left, spraying and wiping them down. The staff was also incredibly friendly and courteous, making us feel welcome throughout the meal. A note for those visiting: some dishes on the menu had an "X" next to them, indicating they weren't available. The server explained this, and I'm curious to see if these dishes are available at the Edison location. That will be for another day and another review!

Modern well-lit ambiance with clever dumpling decorations lining the windows and light fixtures. The service is efficient. The dumplings have a thick exterior with fresh ingredients. I recommend the juicy pork buns. The noodle dish with chicken, scallions, cucumbers and egg was a hearty main course. The mochi buns were sticky on the outside with a filling that was not too sweet.

I like Wu's Shanghai Dumpling in North Brunswick. Decorated in a modern decor with warm inviting wood, Wu's offers delicious Shanghainese cuisine. We ordered the following: * Cold Chicken w Chopped Scallion -Chicken was served cold but was tender, juicy... perfectly cooked, topped with chopped scallion that was salty, oily which aided the tenderness snd flavor of the chicken. * Noodle w Wu's Signature Spicy Pork, Egg & Cucumber - Thin egg noodles top with spicy ground pork, cucumbers and a whole crusted fried egg, that was crunchy and savory sweet. I would have preferred a thicker noodle but that's my preference. Nonetheless, it was perfect. * Pork Juicy Buns - Although the skins appear thick, it was soft. The soup in these buns are plentiful. The pork filling was just a touch too done but still, delicious. * Shanghainese Salty Tofu Bowl - Yum. If you like silken tofu, get this. Savory, sweet and spicy. A favorite. Service was good but we had to request for empty plates to be cleared to make room as items arrived. Wu's is on my list for good eats!

Was much better than the first time I went here over a year ago, which didn't entice me to come back, actually. But my daughter asked if we could go back, and I'm glad we did. Either I didn't remember the food being so good, or it actually improved! If you are queasy about going to "authentic" places because of questionable cleanliness, then this place is for you. I'm not just talking about decor, but the food, too. Everything tasted fresh, crisp and flavorful. I agree with another poster that the shrimp dumplings were mushy. My son felt the soup dumplings and lion's head were sub par, but they were fine by me. Let's just say that even the weird dishes like the clam tofu soup are friendly for American palates! Apart from that, service was a bit slow and nearly 1/3 of the menu was unavailable. It doesn't bode well for the restaurant's future when people can't order what they want. Anyway, I hope they don't close down because now I do want to come back.

Take out: This yummy snack came with the tea I ordered, the Chrysanthemum Monk Fruit Tea. I couldn't finish my pastry

The crispy egg yolk shumai was great. The service was good too. My food came to the table at the right temperature. The restaurant has a nice Shanghai atmosphere and was well decorated.

The food is incredibly tasty and is served at the right temperature. However, I can't give a full 5-star rating because almost everything on the menu was not available and they didn't have any soda. Additionally, we had to ask for a spoon with our order, which I believe should have been provided automatically. I would likely return, just to order takeout next time.

So happy to see that this place opened up a location in north Brunswick! Food as always was amazing. This should be the only spot in North Brunswick where you should be getting soup dumplings. I don't have a single complaint about any items. Food came fast and service was quick. Quality of the items were over the top and fresh. The inside was super clean and they had the cutest soup dumpling strings lights. Can't wait to be back!

Great service but below average food. I was in the area when I stumbled upon this soup dumpling spot and decided to give it a try. I walked in during the lunch rush on a Sunday. Ordered 4 dishes: Beef Scallion pancake: beef was dry and lacked flavor. Slumped on the hoisin sauce. Would not recommend Pork wontons in spicy peanut butter sauce: good but could use a bit more peanut butter. Recommend Rice cake with pickled veggies and chicken: smelled and tasted like fish for some odd reason. Would not recommend Pork juicy buns: had an overwhelming pork flavor that made it very difficult to eat. Not sure if it is intentional, or their ground pork is old, but it was very unappetizing. To make matters worse, there was barely any soup and lacked flavor. I recommend going here for soup dumplings if you are in the area: 1581 Rte 27, Edison, NJ 08817

My family is named Wu and are originally from Shanghai, so this place gave me so much nostalgia! I was surprised to see so many Shanghainese dishes, as they're super hard to find in most places!! We ordered a large assortment of both the dim sum and entree dishes, and they were all really filling and tasty for the price! The interior is also very modern and upscale, and seating was plentiful.

Although the decor is simple, the bold use of red and gold makes it highly memorable--and the space is very clean. Even though the bowls and chopsticks are disposable, there's clear attention to detail. The chopsticks feel great to use, and they are even engraved with "上海小笼," which is a thoughtful touch. The bowls are made of thick, sturdy paper, with a beautiful red base and gold rim--both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly. Ordering is done through a self-service kiosk, but there are still staff members nearby. When it's not busy, they are friendly and happy to assist with any questions. The Noodle in Scallion Sauce (上海葱油拌麵) has a rich scallion oil flavor with perfectly chewy noodles, while the Cold Noodle w. Peanut Butter Sauce (麻將涼拌麵) is packed with a strong peanut flavor and equally chewy texture. Both dishes are delicious and taste very similar to Taiwanese sesame noodles. Every dish is served fresh and hot, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality. Whenever I'm in Edison, I can't help but come back to try more items on the menu.

We were second standing outdoors waiting in this big fat long line. Immediately upon opening for the day the line nearly forced entry near stampede and this cafe was immediately packed to full occupancy of patrons with free seating. The Yelp reviews are accurate and truthful. The food is great. This is a small cafe with only approximately eight tables. I do not recommend large parties of five and greater. It is no-frills, but not exactly "hole in the wall" type that lack in aesthetics for upscale lavish atmosphere but the deficiency is resolved in the food quality. There is one sole functioning restroom in the whole business, ergo, stand in line and wait. We entered hungry in a lugubrious sense of deep sorrow, but exited hunger pangs fulfilled. When exiting upon completion of our lunch meal, there was a line that quickly formed outdoors waiting. Unfortunately, access to this cafe in Edison, NJ is by car only and there is a free parking lot that is shared with neighboring businesses located in a small shopping complex. There are no business cards, and no takeout menus available. Customer service is efficient as the staff worked methodically hustling busy to take orders and fulfillment. Our male waiter was attentive to respond to our inquiries and make suggestions based on our desires. I was able to keep the sales receipt. Price is in the rationale realm of stagflation totaling $41.75. Nota Bene: No table hibernation as the table turnover is fast pace with a line overflowing outdoors which cannot interrupt the flow. My foodie synopsis: Pork steam soup dumplings, 6 pcs, siu2 lung4 baau1, 小籠包, $8.75 Very juicy, flavorful and great. It was served piping hot. This is my favorite default dish for every visit at any Shanghainese ethnic cuisine. However, there were no serving tongs provided for this particular appetizer which is industry standard. Preserved cabbage with pork noodle soup, syut3 coi3 juk6 si1 min6, 雪菜肉絲麵 $9.50 This is a satisfying Chinese comfort food. This noodle soup was abundant with noodles, pork and chopped vegetables. It provided warmth to my very broken heart. Shanghai chicken in wine sauce, zeoi3 gai1, 醉雞, $8.95 A traditional Chinese cold appetizer, aka Chinese Drunken chicken made with Chinese Shaoxing cooking wine. It has amazing flavor and texture to be deliciously enticing. Of course, the cooking wine brings flavor to this appetizer making you want more. Shanghai pan fried U-Don noodle, soeng6 hoi2 cou1 caau2 min6, 上海粗炒面, $11.95 Abundant noodles with good consistency and it not heavily filled with grease and oil.

I was flipping ecstatic when I saw this place was still open and survived the C-Word. I felt so at home eating the food I had back in my college days with my original order. I will say that the restaurant did downsize, however I'm just happy that they're still there to begin with, just in case I haven't elaborated. The decor did get a nice lift and more modern than the back of the day set up. I think it's cute. I believe the young lady that's been there for years may have been the owner the whole time and I was just too oblivious to actually pay attention. The server herself... I felt bad that she couldn't really understand me as my order was incorrect on what I was missing in my soup. My usual from back in the day was Beef and Beef Tendon Noodle Soup, and I would always ask for tripe with mixed beef intestines... so I was missing the intestines but genuinely didn't really think of it as a big deal since I just wanted to taste the food again. I need to let everyone know that there is no good XLB's in the San Jose or East Bay Area of California. Complete disappointment. But that's just my opinion. Shanghai Noodle House's XLB's 20/10

We came on a Sunday around 1pm and about half the tables were occupied so there was no wait. First thing I noticed is the inside is all different, maybe newer looking. They must have changed ownership from when I last came. The food wasn't authentic and wasn't good. We ordered soup dumplings, sweet soy milk, savory soy milk, and pan fried dumplings. Soup dumplings- the good thing is here they give you 8 pieces (vs 6 pieces in other NJ places). The skin is too thin. It was difficult to pick up with a chopstick or spoon and not 1 piece stayed intact while picking it up. All of the soup leaked out before it even reached my plate. The texture of the skin was "slippery" vs the bouncy kind I usually see with soup dumplings. My husband said he bit into a small piece of bone which is weird. Sweet soy milk- it wasn't a smooth drink. There were lots of soy grits Savory soy milk- tasted very watered down. Didn't have much soy milk flavor Pan fried dumplings- the portion was generous with 6 huge pan fried dumplings. These are the largest I've seen anywhere. They look more like buns than dumplings!! It was ok but overall it didn't taste like a pan fried dumpling. The owners seem really nice and friendly, chatting with some of the customers. Their service was good too. It's just the food isn't authentically Shanghainese.
