The previously built outside steps on the property were not built to code and difficult to descend because of poor measurement and distance between each of the three steps. I interviewed 4 companies and chose Tom's Concrete. Tom showed up on time and really seemed to care about my complex job from the very start. He gave me the pros and the cons of my ideas and how everything should come together before even submitting his bid. His price competed favorably with the other contractors and his references all gave positive reviews. He also gave me addresses of his most recent jobs to drive by. He supplied his license information, liability insurance, bond and workers comp insurance information. Price is important of course, but there are other items I look for in selecting a contractor. Tom has an extremely low license number meaning he's been around for a long, long time-through good times and bad (since 1997). He also has long-time crew members which say a lot. His crew has an almost 100 years combined experience; two working with him since he got his license. I am a little late in my review as the job was finished in April/2023. He and his entire crew showed up on time every day until the job was finished. They all were thorough, fast as well as neat and clean. Simple job, 10x12 concrete slab outside my shed I'm converting into a wood shop so I can roll my saws out there and keep the sawdust outside. Tom brought a 3 man crew and had it done the same day. I would gladly give Tom 100 stars! We knew Tom was our guy immediately upon meeting him. In fact, we hired him on the spot and never got a second estimate. Tom came over the same day we contacted him for an estimate on extending our driveway and extending a concrete path that would occur after part 1 of our project (replacing a retaining wall and fence) was done. He immediately looked at the area and said "you have a water drainage problem don't you"? Yes, we do! He immediately started measuring and leveling and presenting ideas how we could solve our drainage problem at the same time as we do the extensions to the driveway and path. We never expected that problem could even be resolved! The thing you learn quickly with Tom is he's always solving problems and planning best options in his head. He doesn't just come in, rush the job, pour some concrete and leave. He thinks through every detail. The next thing that happened sealed the deal that Tom is our concrete guy for life. We told him our fence people were going to replace our clogged French drain for over $1600 because it wasn't flowing. Tom immediately got out our hoses, a towel, and got down on his hands and knees in over 100 degree heat to show us ladies how to properly flush a drain, and succeeded in flushing it open, saving is over $1600 for a new drain we didn't need!! He would have been our guy just for being so honest and helpful. My husband passed away 4 years ago and my daughter and I simply don't know some things. Tom took care of us like he would his own mom/sister/grandma. Just the most stand-up guy ever. And his estimate was very reasonable and upfront. When it came time for the concrete part of our project, Tom went above and beyond anything we could have ever imagined! In addition to doing an AMAZING concrete job, he fixed some very stressful problems left by our awful wall/fence company, including concreting in a gap left under the wall, and adding a tapered board to the wall so it sloped appropriately along with the concrete driveway. And Tom did not overlook any detail. He gave us options that met our needs. To help with our drainage, he suggested (and we love it), evening out the slope by pouring concrete flat across from the house to the fence giving us flat ground on the side of the house for the first time ever (and we are THRILLED!), adding a concrete lip to take water to the drain, and water past the drain down the lip to the front yard down to the sidewalk, installed a new drain down by the sidewalk, capped off and old utility thing we never knew was hidden under our estate wall, raised the drain spout for the new height of the concrete, and found a classy way to deal with the curved fence we ended up with out back so our concrete plans would still work. We ended up adding on to the job having Tom and his crew remove a deck and concrete that in as well. Tom and his crew are amazing. They work very hard all day and get so much done without sacrificing quality. When we needed a solution to a drain further out back in the yard, he went above and beyond again to find an implement a solution. At the end of the job, his crew thanked ME for the work, which was not something I'd experienced before. Bottom line, Tom will take care of you like a family member. Exceptional work at a fair price. He takes a lot of pride in his work. The best part of this huge project we undertook is Tom's concrete design and work. It's added so much value to our house and having the slope gone is so much safer for walking now (in addition to helping channel the water evenly.) read more

We purchased a home in Folsom and the previous owner had put down red lava rock (lots of it, see photo) and I knew it had to go, but I also knew that I wanted to keep the existing lace leaf maple tree that she had planted. I had Tom come give us an estimate and I really didn't know what I wanted done, but like I said, I knew I wanted to keep the tree and I knew I wanted steps coming up to the front door. Tom gave me some ideas and a bid, he was very knowledgeable so we ended up hiring him and we could not be happier with our decision. Tom and his crew arrived on time to start the job when I threw a curve ball at him, I asked if it was possible to move some of the large moss rocks that I had in my backyard and use them in the front yard. He went out back and made sure he could maneuver his bobcat so he could get the rocks out front and he said he could do it. Yay! Tom's brother Terry (also a concrete guy) showed up and Tom and his crew would go in the backyard, get a moss rock and then his brother Terry would tell Tom where to drop the rock. It was a process! Then, because I am a pain, after everything was formed, I called Tom and asked if they could bull nose my steps, and put a border around the concrete, he again said yes, they could do it. He came back the night before they were set to pour to install the cantilevers where on the steps. I could not be happier with my how my concrete and yard turned out, it looks AMAZING! i had Tom and his crew come out and lay a concrete strip approximately 30 feet by 12 feet as a base for a huge shed I am going to have built. We had tree roots lifting up a concrete sidewalk. We got several quotes, and Tom's was the only one that gave us other options besides removing/replacing two sidewalk sections. We decided to go with one of the less expensive options that Tom had given us--grinding down the lifted cement to create a smooth transition to remove the trip hazard and sawing the tree roots. Tom did the job the next day and cleaned everything up at the end of the project. While the only permanent solution is probably to remove the tree, we felt grinding the cement and sawing the roots was the right choice for us at this time. Tom was very pleasant to work with, professional, and very knowledgeable. If we decide to have the sidewalk replaced sometime in the future, we'll definitely be using Tom's Concrete! read more

Tom's Concrete repaired my long, curving, and steeply sloped concrete driveway. Because of the slope it was a difficult job. Tom's crew arrived early and cut and removed cracked concrete sections, installed rebar "dowels" into the old slabs, set up forms and installed more rebar to reinforce the new sections, poured the concrete with color to blend in better with the remaining slabs, and surface finished all the new sections - including radius edges. They even put up caution tape to prevent use of the driveway while the concrete cured. They cleaned up the work site very nicely. And they did all that in one very hot day. Right after they were all done, a mother deer and two fawns walked up the driveway, leaving their hoof prints in the wet cement. Tom got his tools out again and refinished all the marked sections a second time. Excellent work. read more

He explained what needed to be done and gave us a very competitive price. Tom and his crew came out and did the demolition, cut out the roots and hauled everything away. Tom and his crew replaced our driveway and front walk a few weeks ago. The driveway was really lifted due to a lot, and I do mean a lot, of trees on our small lot. The finished product looks fabulous; we're very pleased! When a small crack developed in one of the squares on the corner of the walkway, Tom was super responsive, very concerned, and redid the area quickly. Stuff happens...we're still very pleased and would definitely recommend Tom's concrete. Couple of important things, when Tom came out to give the initial estimate, he pointed out some areas of concern that no other contractor noticed or at least didn't mention, (the height difference between our driveway and garage, for one...), and suggested ways to rectify the problem. Also, we were considering redoing some concrete in the back as well and he didn't really think it was necessary at this time. Saved us some money! Who does that..?
