Beef fajita tacos
Jazmin A.

Every time I passed through Alethia Tanner Park, I glanced over to Tommy's Tacos, saw the signage and wondered when they would finally open. As the months progressed and I saw more and more developments happening there, I got so excited! So, their time is finally here and so many are so excited! The concept itself is great - breakfast tacos, lunch and dinner tacos, some good sixes, margaritas, queso. what's not to love! I personally went in on a Saturday morning and was able to order right away, although it was already quite busy and there were other diners nearby and the line quickly formed behind me. Service was great. I was able to get my order in, but they were out of the other choice I wanted, so I cut my order short and decided to save the rest for next time. I ended up getting the beef fajita tacos, although I wanted to try the pork belly as well. The tacos themselves were delicious. Tortillas were soft, meat quality was top notch, peppers added a great flavor. That's another thing - having this place nearby now, you get great smells in the area. The meat is super fresh and top of the line quality I can tell. Again, the flavor was great. I am a taco lover and have tried all of the so-called "best tacos" in the area. These are definitely up there, but what I felt was lacking for me was the size of the taco itself. Again, I understand the meat is top quality. You can see it in the photos and I'm imagining what it costs to produce the meat, queso, all the add-ins, but these are definitely about 2-3 small bite tacos. Still delicious but a warning for any future visitors. For the price point, maybe I expected something a bit more filling. I'm glad that there's a new neighborhood spot, I look forward to trying other menu items soon and wish this new business much success!

Egg and bacon breakfast taco

After a long wait, Tommy's Tacos is here! Inside a food stand within Alethia Tanner Park near the playground, Tommy's Tacos brings Tex Mex to Eckington and Washington, D.C. The menu includes ten different tacos on flour tortillas for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There's chips and queso, guac, salsa, equites, Mexican red rice, and more. The drink menu includes frozen margarita, Jarriots, Mexican Coke, cinnamon coffee, and more. For dinner, I ordered the bacon and egg breakfast taco, chips and queso, and a frozen margarita. With the salsa, the taco was tasty. The queso is full of flavor and perfect with the hot tortilla chips. The frozen margarita was refreshing and comes with a cherry on top. It's not too sweet and well balanced. Although a taco stand, there is seating just outside the stand!

As a DC transplant from San Antonio Texas, I have been endlessly on the hunt for authentic Mexican/texmex breakfast tacos. Tommy's Tacos is exactly that! Breakfast tacos tastes and feels like home...salsa included!

Tried the three "dinner" tacos - all excellent, carnitas were a favorite. As good or better than La Tejana, imo.

Extremely small breakfast tacos. I don't think there was even half an egg in total. The service was friendly but not worth it for the price.

First of all, the tacos were amazing. They have such a wide variety. Our group had the following…read moretacos, and all of them were outstanding. Shrimp, pork belly, roasted duck, and Baja fish tacos. We also had the plantains which were very delicious and the gelato had a beautiful texture and taste. Above all was the service. We felt welcome, people were so kind, especially the manager and our server Wyatt. We love the ambience and vibe of the restaurant. Great for date night, friends, or even family dinner with teens. Even though we were there until closing time other 11 PM. They were friendly and did not rush us at all. If you were looking for a great place to eat in Washington DC near the Penn Quarter, I highly recommend Bartaco.

The hostess greeted me and asked if I'd ever been to the restaurant before. She directed me to the back counter where I was able to review the menu and place my order. The server at this register was also very nice. I liked the texture of the rice bowls and everything was cooked well. However, the portions for everything were smaller than I expected for the price. Bartaco offers items with mushrooms, falafel, and cauliflower. However I think it would be great if they could offer something with tofu as there is not a protein option for vegans. The chips and guacamole were decent but nothing special. Interesting that the chips come as large pieces instead of as individual chips. I'd maybe stop in again if I was nearby but I'm not sure I'm eager to return.

The tacos are…read morepeppered with spices and herbs, cheese, roasted veggies, and topped with zesty sauce that blend so well together and complement the flavors. Over the summer, there was a debut of a new Chicken taco! All the tacos are unique and tasty - Braised Mushroom with feta, Creamy Kale & Potatoes, Roasted Beets with ricotta, Roasted Eggplant, Skillet Corn and Cauliflower, Lemon Garlicky Greens, Smoky Collared Greens taco, Butternut Squash with goat cheese and caramelized onions. The only taco that I'm not a big fan of is the Scrambled Egg with Black Beans. It's very bland and the eggs are cold. The Mushroom Quesadilla that came out a couple of years ago is surprisingly filling oozing with cheese and hits the spot for only $6. The new Lunch combos is an okay deal. The Kale Salad had a spicy kick and I don't think it was worth paying an extra $7 for it when the Mushroom Quesadilla is only $6. The mild green sauce in the Black Bean Enchiladas has been replaced by the spicy red sauce. The spicy sauce is overpowering to enjoy the enchiladas and the green rice is often undercooked. There's a nice large tank of complimentary ice water instead of the faucet. The Hibiscus Tea is refreshing and sweetened with honey. The coconut Lime Aqua Fresca is refreshing as well and a nice summer mocktail. I've had the Blueberry Margharita Slushie at the Gtown location and really enjoyed it. Always excited to come back and it's become a staple of my office go-to lunch hot spots!

There is metered street parking within a reasonable walking distance. The restaurant has a nice patio and a decent-sized dining area. The staff was friendly enough, but I had a hard time understanding them. This place serves basic Mexican food, including tacos, burritos, bowls, nachos, chips, and salsa. You just pick your protein and toppings. They have asada, chicken, asado, carnitas, and potatoes. Some toppings include shredded cheese, guacamole, salsa, corn, onions, and lettuce. You also have to choose between brown rice, Mexican rice, black beans, and pinto beans. I ordered a chorizo burrito. It took them about 5 minutes to prepare. The burrito was huge. I must say that it was very good. Very tasty and flavorful. It could have been a bit warmer, though. After I ate my burrito, I was full. I really enjoyed my meal here, and I highly recommend checking this place out. They serve some good, fast Mexican food.

This is the only place where I can get crushed chips in my bowl too. In terms of the price point, it's similarly priced as other texmex places. They're also generous with their scoops, which I can always appreciate. The place indoors is always clean too. I would skip Chipotle and other Texmex places and go here instead!
