This was a great place for a pitstop our first day in town. It was early summer and hot (surprise, surprise). They have lots of shaded outdoor tables with fans ready to cool you down after a walk around downtown Charleston. I ended up coming to Tommy Condon's a couple of times during my stay in Charleston, and it quickly became one of my favorite spots to grab a drink. The bartenders were all friendly and attentive, and I actually had the same bartender twice. He remembered my name when I came back, which was such a nice touch and made me feel really welcome. The drink prices were very reasonable, and on Tuesday night they had live music that was fantastic. I live in San Diego, and it's actually hard to find places that have live music on a random weeknight, so I really appreciated the atmosphere. I didn't try the food, so I can't speak to that. My review is based purely on the drinks, service, and overall vibe, and they absolutely nailed it. I enjoyed coming here recently while on a trip to Charleston. My wife and I became a bit tired from walking around in the city, so we decided to take a break here to cool off. We did not order dinner but we shared an order of the beer cheese and pretzels. It was very delicious and the beer cheese was some of the best I've had in recent memory. We ordered a handful of drinks. I had quite a few Guinness and they were reasonably priced. The atmosphere was very nice and lively. My only slight knock is that the service was a little slow. We sat outside on a beautiful day and enjoyed the carriages and people watching as they walked through the Church Street area. Service was a bit slower since we were the only guests outside, but our server was very friendly. We ordered the Bookmaker and the Irish Club along with our pints of Mangers and Guinness. The Bookmaker was a French dip type of sandwich. it was touted as a prime rib sandwich, but could have used a lot more beef and a lot less gristle. The Irish club was very tasty and had lots of turkey but not a lot of corned beef and the meat wasn't evenly distributed throughout the sandwich. If I could give zero stars, I would. I experienced clear discrimination at the bar at Tommy Condon's. I approached to order and was ignored, despite the bartender making eye contact and serving others who arrived after me. Another customer even noticed what was happening and was so bothered by it that he ordered and paid for my drink himself. This is completely unacceptable. Every establishment should treat all guests with respect and serve all people equally--regardless of race. Tommy Condon's failed at basic human decency. I will not be returning and I hope they address this behavior immediately. read more

My place to order Reuben, no cheese, to go especially when I'm working nearby (once or twice in the year). I'm not dining by sitting in but occasionally hang in the bar when awaiting for my to go order. The nights sometimes are very busy. This place runs local jam sessions (Americana, Country?). It is a bit too pricey but based on their location it is understandable (downtown Charleston, next to the Market Street is not affordable place). The place has great Irish rock playing for a nice friendly atmosphere with delicious food everyone had to try the absolutely irresistible fish and chips. The fish was perfectly fried and super crispy. Shepherds Pie was outstanding, nice oniony flavor that wasn't overpowering. "The rueben was phenomenal! The bread didn't get soggy, there was enough meat, not too much sauerkraut. I could just take my time to enjoy all the goodness packed in this sandwich. The recipe for traditional shrimp and grits is simple. Make creamy grits. Saute shrimp in butter and seasoning (Old Bay is common). Pour shrimp and butter on the grits. Done. She got a generous portion of pasty grits topped with shrimp, ham, and tomato. The menu calls for Parmesan gravy which she ordered and was delivered on the side. The shrimp were caked in seasoning. The predominant seasoning was black pepper. She could not eat it. I tried a bite, when I put it in my mouth I has the aroma of black pepper into my sinuses. The gravy was equally seasoned with pepper. The corned beef and cabbage was bland. Traditional corned beef and cabbage is coarse cubed cabbage stewed with corned beef. If I took a bite of cabbage I did not get corned beef and vice versa. I feel like the vegetables were just boiled together and plated. read more

Walking into Tommy's you are greeted by the Bograts, the fantastic duo who sing and entertain at Tommy. Each new guest is greeted this way and the crowd all joins in the greeting. My daughters and I on our weekend in Charleston were recommended Tommy's, so we decided to try it out. We are so glad we did. We had the time of our lives. We loved the crowd participation in the sing alongs. The Bograts were very talented, very energetic and they really motivated the crowd. The bar and food service was fast and friendly. We enjoyed some fried cod fish, coleslaw and pretzels with beer cheese. Of course the Guinness was our favorite. We are Irish after all. Run far far away from this place unless you wanna feel like your hungover and puke all night because of the food. First of all, we ordered on DoorDash. Got two of the bookmakers and an order of Dublin egg rolls. As someone who was a server downtown at one of the most popular restaurants for a decade, I never considered this being somewhere I wanted to eat but I had gone to drink before. That was fine. But today they just popped up on my DoorDash feed with their little BOGO booker sammy which looks delicious in their pic they've posted of it. I was starving and I'm Sucker for creative egg rolls so I was sold. Fast forward to when it gets to my house- this very well could be the dasher (Angelo) messing with our stuff but if it isn't, y'all need to do better at your jobs. The bag was Wide open on my porch when I got home seconds after it was delivered. Gross. I open it inside and the aujus is spilled over and leaking into the paper bag. I'm like oh well I'm sure the food will still be fine without it based off the picture.:.after i opened the sandwich box I was grossed out by what I was looking at. Plain, stale bread with nothing but greyish metallic shining meat on jt.. not creamy horseradish, no onion, no cheese and no I did not make any substitutions. Next, the egg rolls. What I really wanted. They come with Cole slaw. You would think if you're making a Togo order you would separate the wet shit from the crispy shit. Nope, not Tommy!!!! Egg rolls were soggy anf falling apart because they were soaked In the Cole slaw they were laying in. After doctoring up the sandwich that we had to share because they didn't make us our whole order, I took a bite and immediately tasted something odd. I stopped right there and didn't take another bite. About 30 minute later- puking and puking and puking. My husband didn't eat his so he was fine. That's all. Never again read more

We stopped in right before we had to head to the airport on a Saturday evening. This place had live music, a delicious menu and a Server (Brenden) that saved the day. We only had about 40 minutes so Brenden expedited our entire experience. He was great. I ordered the Flounder Po Boy and regret that I didn't get a photo of it. It was delicious!
