I am renaming DSW to become "Sneakerville USA!" When, you walk in the door, you can see 20, maybe…read moremore, rows of sneakers and running shoes. I mean it was hundreds of name brand sneakers to choose from. I was with my oldest granddaughter and this was our second stop for new shoes. She couldn't find a style she liked at the first store. Well, we had a moment of silence, JK, before looking up and down the rows of sneakers. She tried on several pairs and fell in love with the Reebok's. Now, I have to say that $85 dollars is the going rate for a pair of nice sneakers for a teenager. So, I think it was a good value. This is a clean and well organized store. The service we received was mostly at the checkout counter and that went smoothly. I am really happy to see the big smile on my granddaughter's face as she left with the shoes she loved.

I was looking to get some new Birks (Birkenstocks) and I had seen a unique big buckle pair at my…read morelocal DSW but not in my size. Side note: My lovely shoe size is usually the one on display & typically they only have one in that size so you're SOL if you don't get it right away. Don't think that people with small feet have it better cause we don't lol but we can get kids shoes = less $$$ but not always as comfortable depending on the shoe. But I digress lol. Anyhoo, I crossed the bridge into Maryland trying to find these Birks bc the website said this location had them. I found the one & only box in my size but some bunghole put the wrong size pair in it aka too big! Not really sure why you take a smaller size shoe and put it in a bigger size box, but whatever. I decided to look at some other options & found these coolass beauties called Lavender Sparkle. They're more of a gray, but they are genuine leather with a super soft suede lining & they are the most freaking divinely comfortable Birks ever! FYI ~ Not all Birks are leather - they offer vegan, eva, & recycled material options as well. I love the little bit of bling the sparkle brings to them & this was a trip well spent, literally. I also got a nice pair of New Balance tennies on sale too. Hey a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

How to lose a customer of 15-20 years…read more For almost 20 years, Fleet Feet, both in DC and more recently in Asheville, North Carolina, has been where I shop for sneakers twice a year. To save on wear, I buy 2-3 pairs at a time (costing about $400-600 a visit depending on number, socks and arch supports, etc.) and rotate wearing them throughout the week. Today I brought this pair of Brooks back to DC to ask what could be done. I've probably worn them at most 15 days since buying them in mid-last month; the soles are delaminating. An annoyingly passive sales clerk began dancing around the question offering nothing. I eventually abbreviated his babble about normal wear and tear by observing that it doesn't sound like the store can do anything as just over 30 days have passed since the purchase of several pairs. No exchange, no assistance with the manufacturer, no suggestions for repair? I observed that this doesn't seem like normal wear and that its disappointing to see how quickly these expensive shoes are coming apart and how little can be done. His only response was a dismissive "Have a nice day" delivered in a mocking tone. I turned and left the store quietly for the last time in my life without punching him and without responding. some suggestions for better customer service: When your store has a no refund or exchange strict policy, even in the face of defective goods, you should at least provide your customer with contact information to reach out to the manufacturer. If you work in a shoe store, it might be good to be aware of shoe repair places, or glues that might be tried, or to confirm that there are really no glue solutions that could be tried. In other words, know your products and offer some modicum of assistance, even if it's not likely to answer the customer's immediate request. Don't be snide when you are denying service to someone who has been a regular customer and who has clearly brought in a shoe that is not behaving as it should. Not sure where I'll send my $1200/year in purchases now. But I will find a place to remove that revenue from Fleet Feet, and I will let people know of my experience there.
