(Back Story) So my review starts with a "Bad Dad" moment…read more Accidentally let my son's bike fall out of my open hatch on my car while backing up this morning and ran it over. Derailleur (yes, that's how it spelled, thank you Google) was completely twisted, cables crushed and slight bend to derailleur hanger. My son rides daily and how would I tell him when he came home from school that the bike was wrecked. (Start Review) I called Catskill Bicycle Supply shortly after they opened. Spoke with Lee on the phone and he said to bring the bike in and he would look at it. They were open on a Monday which doesn't happen a lot in rural New York which was nice. I brought the bike in and he took a quick look and told me a few things he saw and asked me to leave the bike and he would get back to me with an estimate. I left expecting to hear from him later in the week. Shortly after noon time, I had a text with a very reasonable and detailed estimate from them. I gave them the green light to make the repairs and again made an assumption that I would here from them by the end of the week at the earliest. Two hours later, Lee texted that my son's bike was ready for pick up, exactly four hours after being broken. They were able to squeeze in the repairs while waiting for parts on other repairs and explained that a two hour turnaround isn't the norm but they knew the kid would be sad without his bike. Can't thank them enough for the great service. Now the quandary, do I tell my son of what transpired since 8:30am today or just park the bike? Tips: Located on Main Street Catskill conveniently with street parking. While this was a service visit, their bike's for sale looked pretty amazing. Was in and out so quick, I never got any photos.

I wound up buying a pair of AWESOME Norco VLTs (SO mush fun!!!) which, to Norco's credit they will ONLY sell through dealers. RESIST the direct to consumer route-DON'T do it!!! Catskill Bicycle Supply provided fantastic, personal service, customized the suspension, bars, etc. and dialed our bikes in to the tee for us! And... it was a better deal than any of the direct to consumer options out there and with REAL (awesome) in person people to support the bikes!!! We were SO pleased we bought a 3rd e MTB, a (hardly) used Specialized that they also dialed in for my wife.

Later that day, I brought my wife in to test ride one. She enjoyed it so much, we bought it on the spot. I'd known about Vermont's financial incentive programs and asked about them. Apparently there was some confusion about how it worked, and I left thinking I had to apply for a rebate, but in fact it's a voucher program. That meant I had to apply for the voucher, then use it towards the purchase of an e-bike. I contacted the state's program and was told I had no recourse. I called the shop and spoke with Andrew, who was very apologetic, offered a solution that met with our satisfaction. What it came down to is that I can get an e-bike anywhere in Vermont. It's the customer service that will bring me back, time after time.

Walked in this morning with the intention of buying a bike and let the clerk know that that's why I was there. I told him that I wanted to look at some bikes with him as soon as he got a chance. He then proceeded to wait on other people who came in after me and I finally had to remind him that I have been waiting 20 minutes to look at a bike. After the weight and then basically told that they have very limited stock and if I wanted The kind of bike he would recommend for me that I would have to order it out of a catalog, site unseen, and I would own the bike even if it didn't suit me when it arrived. As someone who's not an experienced bike rider that just seems ridiculous. Anyway, I'm sure if you are a very experienced bike rider and know exactly what you want this place is fine. However, if you get past that, you won't be sorry if you use them for mechanical issues ...or even to buy a new bike or piece of equipment. What I'm trying to say is that I took up biking for exercise. I found a couple of beat up bikes to ride, but they needed some love. One tire was about to bust, the other's rear hub was a minor issue and needed new tubes and tires, so I looked around and found this shop. Bike Works knows their biz. It's not a huge shop, but the people are cool, and the mechanics know bikes. They quickly looked mine over, diagnosed the problems, and told me it might be a few days because they weren't sure if they had the right size tires in at the moment, or if they had to get them from the supplier in a couple days. (I don't know if it's this pandemic or if they are always this slammed, but it seems like half the area knows they're the best, because they're busy, too.) Turned out they had the tires, because they called me the next day to tell me I was good to go. I'm no expert either, but judging by the prices of tires and tubes I found online, they didn't charge too much for labor, which is nice. When I have more bike issues, I'm definitely coming back this way.

I needed a number of items like a phone holder, water holder, helmet, and more. But they made some really good suggestions based on what I needed. Plus, I got a discount when I bought the bike accessories with the bike, which saved me even more money. I also checked out two of their other locations, and each one had a great selection of bikes and a nice space for bike repairs. In GB, I spoke to one of the techs about parts inventory and turnaround time, and I was really impressed with all of the answers. Look, there's always going to be a cheaper place to buy something, but I want to pay a fair price to a company that won't let me down when I need to maintain my bike.
