Tomat's is a culinary treasure in the Saint Germain des Pres neighborhood of Paris. You'll find it in a courtyard off of rue Jacob and it's so worth a visit. This cozy shop, next door to a Japanese knife merchant, sells amazing ingredients for the home cook. I love it for its selection of nut oils, e.g., hazelnut, walnut, and others, plus spices, vinegars, salts, mustards, and other French and international items. I go to the shop on every visit to Paris; the last time I brought home a bottle of walnut oil (I live in NYC and have never been able to find this brand here) and a container of ground cinnamon from Vietnam, both of which I had purchased there previously and so I knew how special they would be. Madame is the owner and chooses everything she sells. She is charming and persuasive about what is excellent. She also speaks English, if that is helpful. If you cook, Tomat's is a treat to visit. read more
