Had a lovely stay at stay at Tomales Hotel. Booking was smooth and communicating with Rachel was easy and she was very responsive. We were in the area for the year round offering of the bioluminescence kayak tour through blue water kayak and it was such an amazing experience. The hotel is about 7 minutes from the boat launch. 10/10 recommend this hotel and the kayak tour! We stayed in room 9. King bed,ADA compliant bathroom so it's very spacious. Room has a couch and swanky electric fire console. Bed and pillows are plush and comfy. It's a sleepy small town, there's a bakery across the street with great coffee and baked goods and I heard their pizza is off the hook! We visited end of July 2025. read more

I can't say enough about this place. The first time we came here, it was Easter weekend and there was a carton of eggs given to us upon checkin. (When eggs were like $20 too!) We had such a great time that when my mother was back visiting, I had to bring her by on our way to Dillon Beach. Of course, I said we should just stay the night. Rachel was more than accommodating even while busy planning for wedding party guests. The beach was super windy and we debated going back home and called her to see if it was possible to cancel. She was patient and understanding when she surely had lots more to do than deal with indecisive people. It's such of a guaranteed cozy stay that it's always worth it and the customer service is above and beyond- giving us hope there are still people in the hospitality biz who care about your comfort! There's a market that is fully stocked with anything you need just yards away, a bakery that serves espressos, and a bread you would absolutely die for. Once your at the hotel there's 4 directions you can go Petaluma, Marshall-Stinson Beach-Muir Woods, Dillon Beach, Bodega Bay-Jenner. The location of the hotel is a perfect place to reserve, you would sleep in absolute comfort and quietness knowing when you wake you have a multitude of sites to visit and see. Practical for a wedding we attended. It also avoids having to drive into Santa Rosa after dancing all night. The hotel is a historic building and therefore won't have modern amenities. Those include no elevator, air conditioning, phones in room, no smart TVs. Our room was large (we stayed in room 5) with two queen beds. It also had a mini fridge and small flat screen with cable. The bathroom was immaculately clean. Shower looks like recently regrouted. I don't care for carpet in hotel rooms but it was clean and vacuumed. No stains. Also white sheets looked clean and in good shape. The front desk was friendly. They do offer a coffee station for guests on the second floor hallway. It's close to the cute restaurants and general store. Convenient parking in the back of hotel. All in all a clean and does the job hotel room. read more

We found the Tomales Hotel while looking for a less expensive alternative to the hotels in Bodega Bay. Tomales Hotel is just a 20-minute drive from Bodega Bay. We met Rachael and Bill, the owners, and they were so sincere and helpful. They really care about you here. Our room, #9, was on the first floor. ADA compliant in every way. My husband can't do stairs. The room was very large with a king bed, sink, microwave, fridge and dishes and utensils. It also had an electric fireplace. The room was clean and smelled fresh. The bed was very comfortable, and we slept well. We opened the windows to let the cool air in but chose to close them when we went to sleep as we were on the ground floor. A fan would be helpful in this room. There is a kitchen stocked with everything you may need to prepare food that you bring in, located on the first floor. Check in is contactless. When your reservation is received, a code is sent via email to enter the front hotel door. Your key is on the counter. The owners are close by in case they are needed. Just steps away, across the street, is a great bakery and deli. We had breakfast sandwiches there and the coffee is great. The hotel does have free coffee in the lobby 24/7. My only suggestions would be to have an Info binder in the room that tells you about the kitchen, the wi-fi password, which we found taped on the exit door of our room, and info about restaurants and things to do in Tomales and the Bodega area. I love this inn. I am going back for my third stay within a year this month. At first I didn't get that there was not on site staff once you check in. Check in and check out is pretty clear. I had questions in advance on my first stay, and requested and early check in time the second stay. There is a phone number that you can call for any of these issues. Just plan in advance. If I remember correctly, I left a message and got a return call. You can also email them. I went with my adult daughter for my first stay, by myself for my second, and my third will be with my husband. This is a clean, quaint inn. The location is perfect - sweet little town and lots of outdoor activities available. I kind of like the fact that it does not have the vibe of a regular hotel. It feels way more independent and like you are on your own - just what I need during these crazy times. We all like different things and have different expectations. I hope this helps. read more

These guys have a nice vintage hotel in a cute little sleepy town that is close to lots of great things to do. Unfortunately they have a few issues. One being no one is available for customer service. That includes when trying to book and ask questions, change plans, inquire about what they offer, checking in or out , if something doesn't work or if you need to cancel you can not contact a Live person, it's very disappointing . if you need clean and to never see people, this is ok. it was quite expensive compared to other places, it was impectably clean and tastefully and sparsely decorated with a few nice antiques. but it was impossible to sleep with a loud heater. the little coffee table didn't have sugar or the promised hot chocolate (we were told to go to the bakery which was great!) to get it and they'd take it off the bill. call me crazy, but if you are in the hospitality business, shouldn't you be hospitable? zero amenities, unlike everywhere else on this trip. there were the usual pump bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and soap, but nothing else. honestly, if it were cheaper and if I had been able to sleep, it would have been another story and all the little things I expect at this price wouldn't matter. but I expect to sleep when I got to a hotel. And to wake up after a bad night of sleep and not have what I need for my coffee or the promised tea and hot chocolate for my kid is just depressing. drive farther and get better. read more

Rachel was very welcoming and set us up in a different room than ordered so we would not be bothered by a construction crew temporarily living on the second floor. Turns out, we never heard anything, even though our room was right on the corner of Highway 1 and the road to Dillon Beach [worth visiting]. Tomales is the classic one-horse town, with a bakery and deli across the street, as well as a general store and post office. The only sit-down restaurant is closed for the winter, so we ventured a few miles north to The Casino - pure Americana townie bar/restaurant - and the equally welcoming Rocker Oysterfeller [great name!] in nearby Valley Ford, CA. read more

My husband and I took a over night trip to Dillion Beach, and this hotel was suggested. The room was clean, and tidy with all the comforts of a small hotel. They even let us have our dogs. Even though there not dog friendly. That was very kind of the manager. My only upsetting thing was the Outside Noises! We stayed on a Monday night into Tuesday. Tuesday is Garbage day' woke me up at 7:30 am. Then there was the house nexted door, the owner decidedly doing yard work at 8am. As I write this his chopping his bushes off.!!! I know the management can't control the outside influences. So I suggest you don't stay on a Monday night. Oh " and there no restaurants open on Monday and Tuesday here in this town except the deli across the street. We won't be back unfortunately! I could get this at home ! read more

I really want to give a better rating. The town is adorable and the property quaint. However here were some of my observations. First, the front door required a key code to get in. I vaguely remember getting an email with the code several weeks before our stay. Well I lost the email and had to ring the doorbell. The onsite operations person seemed rather put out and reminded me that a code had been supplied. Anyhow, I got to the room; cute. Went to the bathroom and began to notice a strange sulfurous smell. Old building? Water? Not sure. When we crawled into bed after a night out at a great local restaurant, we found 7 long black hairs in the supposed clean bed sheets. I didn't want to bother the onsite operations person after my initial greeting so we just lived with it. I don't want this review to stop someone else from booking this property but I do hope that management will look into this and take appropriate steps. read more

She gives you a code for the front door when you make your reservation. DON'T LOSE IT because the front door is locked all the time and the code is the only way you'll get in. I thought that was kind of weird and unwelcoming ... what if I had a problem? Bottom line, the place is fine but not exemplary. The main thing that bothered me was the fact that it's right on Highway 1, and it's so darn noisy. I was really excited about this place after reading the reviews. 1st there were not water bottles in the rooms or for sale in the lobby, which wasn't a big deal because we walked over to the bakery across the street. But what really bothered me & the absolute main reason for me not coming back here is because once the room got kinda warm for my boyfriend & I, we decided to open the window. When we opened the window, the window screen fell off. We tried for 10 minutes to put it back up but it wasn't working, so i decided to go downstairs thinking maybe they was a bell or something to get a staff member to help but of course there wasn't. But there were two different numbers to call in case of emergency, so i called both and it took me through an automated message asking me to dial the person i wanted to call so i dialed the hotel/inns number and it wouldn't connect because nobody answered. So then I called the inns number and it did exactly the same thing. I am not comfortable sleeping with a window where the screen can easily be accessible from the outside so i put a vase in front of the window in case of anything. I shouldn't have to feel unsafe & also to be in a place where it is not easily accessible to have some help from a staff here. We checked in during their working hours, and there was not a staff member to greet us, which at first didn't bother us because it felt like air bnb vibes, but once i couldn't get in touch with a staff member I knew this was a place i wouldn't be coming back to. read more

First the innkeeper, Sky, was great... Nice guy, helpful... Good guy, friendly, easy to talk to, sincere. We went for a full moon kayak tour which ended up just being my wife and me, with the guide. I will yelp about that elsewhere... But it was a blast... The town was dead. Don't expect to have a quaint town to walk around in. There is an antique shop next door that is only open weekend (we stayed tues night). There is a bar/restaurant next door but they were closed because of a problem. That is about it from what we could tell. The room was perfect... Quiet, though we could hear the street traffic. Not a problem, not that loud. Bed was very comfortable. Views out the window were nice. There is a balcony surrounding the upstairs rooms but we were told we are not allowed up there. Too bad would have been nice to have a glass of wine up there. As for people taking about bath robes, etc.. OK I guess we all have different expectations. The bathroom size was fine. There were enough outlets, but we just need a couple for cell phone chargers. There is a restaurant across the street, but we didn't try it. It wasn't very inspiring. We ended up coming back from our full moon kayak trip at 8p and had dinner at Nicks in Marshall. Maybe it was a bit pricy but... It's Marin eh? It kinda sucks that everything is expensive but it also seemed to be about the same price as everything else. I am not that particular about my hotels. After a reasonable price and a safe neighborhood, I really have only two requirements: 1. Clean 2. Quiet The Continental is AAA approved. Look on their web page for specials. We scored a good deal for a January/February stay. It is a very small but quaint hotel, there are only about 10 rooms in the entire establishment. We were lucky to get a room upstairs facing away from either street. I couldn't hear any of my neighbors during my whole stay. The bathroom was very clean, but I did see a few ants crawling around. When we pulled in the night before, I saw some rooms on the ground floor facing the street where we parked. I could see those being unsuitable for light sleepers. The door pretty much opened up to the street. Our host was the substitute innkeeper, Sky. He was cordial and nice, and worked with us through a minor credit card problem. Sky listed our very limited options for eating in town. He also regaled us with some ghost stories about the hotel. I was disappointed that breakfast is not served on the weekdays, and our room did not have AC. Having AC is not a big deal in January, but it might be useful during the summer. read more

We've stayed twice at the Continental Inn, and this is now my go to place for overnight lodging for West Marin and Point Reyes destinations. We love this part of the north bay, especially the serene and almost zenlike undeveloped, bucolic rolling hills and small towns. Continental Inn is the center of Tomales, the quinticential small west marin town, which also has an upbeat and friendly dive bar, 2 small breakfast cafes and a few interesting retail establishments. But the reason to go there is the feeling of pre-modernity and the lack of any hint of the rat race. The Inn itself is a wonderful homey place, very clean and quiet, rooms are large but nostalgically pleasing, each with its own personality and charm. The continental breakfast will satisfy anyones hunger, but the cafe next door is worth going to if you want a nice sit down meal. Penelope who runs the place is friendly and very accommodating. The first visit we arrived very late, and we were able to get ahold of her, and we were able to get in with the an access code. On our last trip, I mistakenly left my ipad, and I just sent her an email and she unflinchingly offered to put it in the mail, I couldnt have been more appreciative. read more

I did see the "innkeeper" that explained very little, other than the code for the door and that's it. Nothing about coffee which was on the second floor down the hall-do I make my own coffee? No ice..uggg..no innkeeper to ask. Note on a frig by the coffee-juice and milk-a half full small OJ and maybe 2 cups of milk. That's it. I just didn't feel welcome. Don't know if you've seen too many scary movies, or it's other issues, but you need to deal with these irrational fears you've got. So about the inn... My wife and I did indeed stay here on a Groupon. Of course, you always wonder a little when places run these deals if there's a really good reason they can't fill their rooms at regular rates. In this case, the only reason we got such a good deal is it's an off-the-beaten track location in the off-season. The Inn itself was fantastic! My wife (who spent 15 years guiding tours for very high-end clients) has extremely discriminating taste in these matters...so much so that I almost hate staying anywhere with her because I know she's going to pick it apart. And she was completely satisfied with the quality of the bed, decor, etc. It was a little odd how little the innkeeper was around...but it's not a Motel 6 and we didn't go on vacation to spend our days chatting up a stranger. The town is great. OK, if you're looking for the culture and entertainment options of San Francisco, you'll be sorely disappointed. But if you're looking for some peace and quiet, it fits the bill perfectly. There's a general store across the street, a couple of cafes on the opposite corner, and a small restaurant and bar next door. Several beaches and some great oyster places are just a very short drive or (preferably) reasonable bike ride away. The roads around here are very quiet and great for biking...in fact my wife discovered the town of Tomales when she used to lead high-end bike tours in the area. No one staffs the front desk so no one to go to if there's a problem, or to give you a message if someone is trying to get a hold of you, especially annoying since I didn't get cell phone reception anywhere in town. Continental breakfast seemed like it came from Costco Noisy/Rowdy bar on one side, intensly loud street noise on the other- this seems to be a major route for those who drive loud Harleys. Because there is no air conditioning in the room ( at least none that we could find) we had to sleep with the window open & the sound of hogs all night long. Would I stay here again? I can see myself staying here again under the right circumstances, like if my daughter is again in a wedding in this little town, but I wouldn't come here just to stay in this inn. Our stay here was wonderful! We stayed in two different rooms. Both were spacious, clean and inviting. Thank you for a great experience! We had originally only planned to stay one night, but we loved Tomales and the Continental Inn so much that we decided to stay an extra night. Things to note: - no cell service - there is free wi-fi at the Inn - one of our rooms had a mini fridge - there is coffee, tea a microwave and instant oatmeal available in the morning. On weekends there is a continental breakfast - the Inn has wine glasses, and your room comes with a wine opener - cable TV - there is a keypad to enter the Inn and depending on when you come, the Innkeeper might to be there. That was no problem for us, as we were given the code and found an envelope with our name and keys in it. - the Tomales Bakery across the street from the Inn is amazing! They serve until they sell out, so get there early. A delicious array of sweet and savory baked goods. - right next to the bakery is the deli. We had a great breakfast there! They substituted the meat in the Marin McMuffin for me with avocado instead. :-) - the general store right next to the Inn has a wide variety of things you may have forgotten. We bought an oyster knife from them for $8! - BRING CASH!! For the bakery and oysters at the Tomales Bay Oyster Company I'm already excited for when I can return! read more

Stayed here 4th of July, the room was great, more like a small 1 bedroom apartment. Living room, separate bedroom, bathroom. There are alot of really nice things about this Hotel. Our room was downstairs so we has a separate private outside door to come and go without going through the lobby. The room had a coffee maker, real cups, plates, bowls, silverware, a microwave and mini frig. The linens were very good quality including the towels. A picture fell off the wall and broke after we were in the room. I went to the desk, a lady came, cleaned it up. took some pictures and gave us coupons for the bakery across the street. The breakfast was a typical hotel breakfast but offered real coffee mugs, the pastries weren't packaged which was nice. Will definitely be back! read more

I've spent a lot more time on the west side of Tomales Bay, so it was a treat to stay *in* Tomales last weekend. BFF and I were lucky to score a double room a week before, and I was very pleasantly surprised by how nice it was. The beds were comfy, and super high (I felt like a kid sliding off the side onto the floor). We never saw the innkeeper (didn't matter - we had a code to enter, and everything was well laid out). The continental breakfast left a bit to be desired, and the coffee was icky (I think it's up to the guests to make it), but none of that matters, because there's an excellent bakery across the street with fantastic coffee, treats, and locals (human and canine) that seem to meet there every day - and enjoy interacting with tourists in a most perfect way. Highly recommend the bar at the end of the "block". Cheers to the adorable blonde bartender getting her masters in education(!), and the waiter from Nick's Cove that we chatted with for a while. I don't know what it is about this town in particular, but it's filled with (seriously) the nicest group of locals I've ever met. My friends were married at Dillion Beach (way back when), and had their reception at the town hall, and even with all the chaos we brought to this lovely little hamlet, everyone was still cheery, sweet and friendly. Skip Dillon Beach, unless you are a lazy dog parent eager to pay $8 for the privilege of joining a crowd of off-leash dogs transported by handlers with zero control or concern for who their dogs are jumping on, and where they're leaving their feces. I'd just skip everything Dillon Beach, and focus on the many other wonderful things you can do in this area, like kayaking, paddling, hiking, tidepooling, shopping and EATING. We came for one night and loved this place. The hostess remembered I was interested in a fireplace, but it wasn't available when I booked. She must have had a cancellation b/c when we arrived, she changed our room to give us the one w/the fireplace. The room was great-cozy & comfortable. She had wine glasses & DVDs we could use as well as a tasty continental breakfast. The Tomales Bakery was across the street - divine! The only bummer not in her control was the William Tell Saloon just had it's 2nd night w/new ownership. I loved our recent stay at Continental Inn. We've never experienced such a great service without actually seeing anyone setting everything up. We booked a quiet weekend getaway with my husband and this experience exceeded all of our expectations. We got a big room on the corner. It had a huge bed, flat screen TV, nicely clean bathroom and even a corkscrew in the nightstand! The high ceilings make the room feel so much spacious and a quiet street will make you feel like you are on a vacation from the wold. They have a ton of channels and music programming. The breakfast and coffee served next morning was amazing too! I definitely see us coming back for another peaceful night or two.
