bunkhouse

there were some ladybugs in the room but otherwise it was really nice ; the walls are also thin in the bunkhouse so you can hear conversations throughout the building the beds and blankets are comfy! it's a pretty location with lots to do and the kitchen has a lot of stuff like pots and pans and whatever appliances you might need. also no need to bring bedding or towels because they're provided!

amazing access to run, hike and walking trails

Our Families new annual nature retreat. The lodge is a great screen free, nature embedded, family fun zone. Our littles hikes, ran and climbed all day long. The beds are great, the fully stocked kitchen made for easy meal times and the bird sounds and lazy river were relaxing. We ran the beaches, saw tons of wildlife and sweeping views. We will be back!

Admittedly, I'm a bit of a hippie cyclist. I ride my bike nearly everywhere, don't like shaving all that much, wear sandals from time-to-time, against the war, etc etc etc... Recently, a friend and I decided to embark on a long distance tour of California's North Bay. You can actually see the route we took there & back by following the link at the end of the review. It was actually a moderately tough ride, a decent amount of sustained climbing, the most being at the end of the 45 miles before we made our final descent to the Point Reyes Hostel. We arrived at dusk, and were greeted by Sebastian, the resident supervisor & Scrabble genius--she knew all the rules & proclaims that she plays it on line constantly. She got us checked-in with our new elderly friends Jerry & Viola (who were a little scared of us), and showed us the ropes around the place. They have various choices of how you would like to hostel here--separated men & women's dorms, co-op dorms & private room. I'm guessing the private room is more expensive, but the others cost a mere $20 per night. Yea, $20! And $2 more if you didn't bring sheets/pillow case/towel. This hostel does not allow the consumption of alcohol, so be discreet if you are going to do it. Also, if you have a problem with bathroom privacy, spending more and doing the private room would probably be better. There's a great common area for travelers to hang out with each other and chat, and plenty of places to hike and enjoy this wildlife-filled, untouched portion of California (i added a few photos). Whether you're looking to get away for an inexpensive weekend and head North from San Francisco, or wanting an intermediate long distance bike tour--this is a great spot along the way. Ten stars for the Point Reyes Hostel! If you are a solo traveler, and even better a solo WOMAN traveler, you will be quite at home here. I came here on a "Mama Needs a Mental Health Break" vacation and it was just what the men in the white coats ordered, ha ha. The hostel is small and intimate, a tiny gem nestled in the wilderness. The staff is friendly, the bathrooms are big and clean, and the kitchen is lovely (see the cute vintage dishes in my photo). There is no TV, wifi or cell service (this is a gigantic plus, actually!), and since this is a hostel, you have to be out of the premises all day. But there is a big bookshelf full of books; and there are tons of comfy couches where you can curl up with a nice book and a cup of tea and gaze out the picture window. The best part of my experience was the people -- a very cool mix of travelers aged 20-60, all chilling out together, cooking and playing the guitar and just enjoying the peace and quiet. The next morning I went to the Pt. Reyes Visitors' Center and they recommended a great hike: up Bear Valley Trail to the gorgeous Divide Meadow, an easy 2 hours round trip. I stayed in the ladies' dorm ($22 if I recall right) but next time I think I'll bring my husband and son, and we'll spring for a private room ($82 for three of us) in the swanky, new building. This is a magical place!

The cozy and charming common room.

The HI Point Reyes Hostel is easily the best hostel I've ever stayed in. (And I've stayed in more hostels than is probably healthy for one human being.) The staff were friendly, the place was quiet and the surroundings were gorgeous. Never mind the fact that I could have parked myself in their common area all day reading and drinking tea by the windows overlooking the mountains. **Please note that this hostel is in the middle of nowhere. It's not accessible by public transport, there is no wifi and no cell phone reception. Plus, no alcohol on the premises. Translation: The perfect getaway. It's not filled with crazy hostel-goers partying until 5am and bathrooms don't smell like beer. Instead, the hostel is filled with friendly folks of all ages and is the cleanest joint around. So if you need a weekend away from the city, this is your new special place. There are dorms (co-ed and single sex) and private rooms so there really is something for everyone. And since you'll need a car to get there you'll be able to easily access Point Reyes Lighthouse, Point Reyes Station, Drake's Bay Oysters (if it's still open) and Sculptured Beach. ABSOLUTELY 100% WORTH THE TRIP. Bonus points for being surrounded by hiking trails within easy walking distance. I definitely plan on staying here again next time I need to get the eff out of SF.

Yeah, we really just LOVED this hostel. It's at the top of our list for favorite hostels to stay at and we have stayed at many. I stayed in the girls dorm in the main house and my boyfriend and friend stayed in the boys dorm in the main house as well. When we checked in the lovely lady was very helpful and thorough in her explanations of how this particular hostel works. We were able to use the kitchen along with many others as it is spacious and well supplied. The dining area is very cute and there are also nice outside areas to sit. We had a great time chatting with many of the guests that evening and made some good friends for sure. The beds are super cozy. I believe they are tempurpedic mattresses with a vinyl covering. Which I am not a fan of vinyl but it works well here and can be easily cleaned! My bunk bed did squeak though (the first one on the left going in on the bottom) when I moved. That should be fixed. Otherwise, a very comfortable, well stocked, very nicely decorated and just all around great hostel. We would LOVE to come back here again and again.

Another great hostel experience!! Went with a girlfriend to get away. Great, calm, pretty hostel. Close enough to restaurants. Sebastian (the staffer) was totally amazing. Just a lovely, lovely time. :)

Hands down quite easily the best, most magical, and positive hostel that I've ever stayed in. The location is sublime, nestled and tucked neatly into Pointe Reyes National Shoreline, the air combined with the mile drive to Limatour Beach leaves this reviewer in complete reverence and gratitude for the experience.

Are the birds that knock on the kitchen windows ravens or crows?? I'm going crazy wondering!

Creamer, coffee, tea, eggs, butter, english muffins, jellies, and fruit provided. Cute, boho style furniture with some shaker style pieces - very nicely decorated. Sheets and bedding very nice and comfy. Lovely white fluffy towels (bring your own robe - I was glad that I did!). Beautiful blue and white tiled bathroom with shower only - wonderful water pressure and hot water! Tony and Jan supply body wash, shampoo, and conditioner (Neutrogena Rainbath and Pantene at the time of my visit). Small wood-burning stove with logs and all the tools needed to keep a fire going. Wifi signal was great - I watched some Netflix and joined a Zoom meeting from my own computer and had no issues with either. Hot tub was great. Outdoor space to sit at a nice table with four chairs and a nice looking BBQ. I saw an elk roaming on the property, lots of quail and other birds (they have a pictorial guide of birds hanging by the front door right as you walk in). The yurt is on a gravel road. You pass the neighbor's sheep and horses as you drive in. Point Reyes Station is literally right around the corner - a 2-3 minute drive - with lots of food, great markets and shopping. Inverness is a 5-minute drive (if that). The yurt is very conveniently located. I passed Jan and Tony and Stella, their dog, on the way out one night - very friendly and made sure I had everything I needed. I will be thrilled when the opportunity comes to visit again!!

The yurt is charmingly rustic, clean, quiet, private, and the perfect location to access the many outdoor offerings of west Marin. It has a fantastic hot tub that's perfect to relax in after a day of hiking. Tony and Jan are incredibly kind, wonderful hosts. We've only had one issue we had to contact them about over the years (no soap in the shower) and they took care of it very quickly.

Olema House - Due west Market , so convenient

Olema House

Absolutely wonderful stay here while we visited Point Reyes…read more I saw this spot on multiple instagram travel posts, and essentially planned a trip around staying here! They have numerous options for rooms, and I loved that the Market Flat had one bedroom with a king bed, another bedroom with a bunk bed, and a living room sleeper which was perfect for our group. Very friendly service- they emailed me multiple times before the trip with updates, and also readily accommodated requests (ie getting more space heaters) They have a beautiful backyard where people host weddings. Loved the river views, and the fire pits. They provide free smores kits at the front desk which is awesome! There are also blankets by the fire pits to stay warm at night. Also love the lounge room with free coffee/tea all day and the downstairs game room where they had an ample amount of board games and an old record player. Also thought it was nifty that they have tons of binoculars that you can rent out too, which came in handy for us at the Tule Elk Reserve! The Due West Market was also convenient to have- they mainly have drinks and some snacks; but I definitely appreciated the espresso drink options and a couple of fresh bakery goods from Due West We also ate at the on site restaurant Due West one night and enjoyed everything. Overall such a wonderful experience to stay here.

This is actually my first time writing a review for a hotel, so I'll try to be as helpful as I can. This was our second time staying here. I love the rooms. They are so comfortable and have wonderful, little touches added. The rooms have fireplaces, but instead of lighting a fire they give you a beautiful handmade, three wick candle that creates a beautiful display of flame. To help you sleep they give you a spray to scent your pillows with lavender. I love the high ceilings in the rooms I've stayed in, as well as the little balconies you can sit on. The hotel has a really good restaurant next door and has treats throughout the day. A very simple continental breakfast, some snacks and drinks in the afternoon, and in the evening the front desk had the makings of s'mores to bring out to the fire pit. The marshmallows were especially delicious! My only real complaint is the people who work the front desk were not the most helpful and seemed a bit awkward. One of them said they were new and didn't really know how to answer a few of my questions. I still love this place though despite the strange staff that works here.

It's not a lodge for the technocrat--There was no tv and cell phone communication was somewhat sporadic, but if you go here to enjoy your life, your senses... few places could be more marvelous. A fire glows outside the lobby, where guests gather for complimentary s'mores from the front desk. Melissa greeted me that evening - jovial, warm, and effortlessly efficient. Check-in felt less like a transaction and more like an arrival. After settling in, we walked up to Mable's just up the hill. The air was crisp. Jackie seated us outside, wiping down the table and setting up the heater while asking what brought us there. The service felt attentive without being intrusive - thoughtful in a way that made you feel both seen and relaxed. The manager recommended the oysters (sourced just down the hillside), clam chowder, beef short ribs, carrots, and potatoes he described as "ridiculously good." He wasn't wrong. One bite and I understood the confidence behind the recommendation. Jackie crafted a mezcal cocktail - technically out of season due to its pomegranate base - so she improvised beautifully. It was smoky, warm and sweet; perfect for the evening. Every dish felt intentional and dessert was too - chocolate mousse, peanut butter, caramel, roasted marshmallow, quinoa bark, and peanuts that melted together in a single, perfectly balanced bite. Later, I returned to the now-quiet fire, made one last s'more, and sat in stillness. There was a palpable sense of history on the land - a peaceful awareness of all who had gathered there before. The room was simple and deeply comfortable. I read before wrapping myself in crisp sheets and falling asleep on a cool pillow. In the morning, wrapped in a Marconi robe, I walked to the sauna and meditated - alternating between closed eyes and views of trees and the Pacific beyond. After a hot shower, I packed up and chose a nearby trail. The hike unfolded like a story: a solitary yellow chair overlooking rolling hills and ocean; the distant sound of cattle; clusters of seats that felt as if laughter had only just faded; historic buildings standing quietly in time; a small pond alive with frogs; ravens calling overhead; forest trails opening into meadow views. Eventually, the paths brought me back near Mable's. For breakfast, Haven greeted me and I chose the same table from the night before. I ordered the French toast after seeing the light in the eyes of my waitress when she described it - along with black coffee and scrambled eggs. Robert, the manager, stopped by to ask about my stay and suggested one final trail before I left. He was right - it was the perfect closing note. The Lodge at Marconi offers more than a stay. It offers space - to breathe, to wander, to reconnect. Wherever you're traveling from, you may just find solace here.
