Small shop that sells meats and some great produce that you can't find in other places! Found some great empanadas!

Stopped here for lunch with a friend and was thoroughly impressed!…read more I was going to get an order of burnt ends then I saw they had a taco trio of pulled pork, beef, and burnt ends; problem solved! The food was amazing and service was fast and friendly. They also offer freshly butcher beef and pork that looks INCREDIBLE! I also tried the Texas Caviar which was good but not really my style. 5/5 stars, will absolutely be back!

Normally I go straight for brisket or ribs, but they told me they're known for their burnt ends, so I decided to try the burnt ends plate. After I paid and sat down for a bit, they came back and told me they had run out of burnt ends. They offered to substitute another meat and refund the difference. I switched to brisket and told them not to worry about the refund. To their credit, they gave me whatever burnt ends they had left along with the brisket, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the meat itself was disappointing. At first glance, the brisket did not look promising. The slices were very lean with almost no visible fat, no smoke ring, no pink, just gray-brown throughout. The bark was minimal and patchy. It looked dry before I even took a bite, and it ate exactly how it looked. The meat was firm, tight-grained, and lacked moisture. I ended up having to drink water between bites and could only finish about half before taking the rest home. The burnt ends weren't much better. They were dark and sauced on the outside, but they also leaned dry instead of tender and juicy. Not the rich, sticky, melt-in-your-mouth burnt ends I was hoping for. I got baked beans and potato salad for sides. I'm not sure if they make them in-house or if they're premade, but they were decent. Not amazing, not bad. They just didn't make up for the meat. I really wanted to like this place, especially after they recommended the burnt ends so confidently. I appreciate that they tried to make it right when they ran out, and that was good customer service. But at the end of the day, barbecue lives and dies by the meat, and this just didn't deliver.

I was in Durham for a convention and wanted to find a good local place for barbecue. The reviews…read morefor The Original Q looked great, so I decided to stop in for lunch. I absolutely made the right choice. Parking was a little tricky when I arrived because there was an ambulance in the lot, but there were still plenty of nearby options, so it really wasn't a problem. When you walk inside, you're greeted by a line, but don't let that scare you off because it moved surprisingly fast. The staff was friendly from the start, and I really liked being able to watch the food being prepared as I moved down the line. The atmosphere was exactly what I want from a barbecue restaurant. Everything was clean, the staff was welcoming, and the inside had that classic local barbecue-joint feel. I even ended up sitting underneath the moose head, which only added to the experience. I ordered the pork barbecue plate with a baked potato and a Sun Drop. And if you're eating barbecue in North Carolina, you pretty much have to get a Sun Drop with it. The barbecue was excellent. It was tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. They had several sauce choices, and the one I tried paired really well with the pork. Normally, I like to take some of my barbecue and stuff it inside my baked potato, but the pork was so good that I didn't even want to slow myself down. I demolished the hush puppies first and then showed absolutely no mercy to the barbecue. The baked potato was also excellent--fresh, soft, moist, and loaded with all of my favorite toppings. This was one of those places where everything just came together: great food, friendly service, a fun atmosphere, and exactly the kind of barbecue experience I was hoping for. I honestly wish I lived closer because I could see myself eating here all the time. One thing is for sure: anytime I'm back in Durham, The Original Q will be on my list.

Anyone been around to remember the days you had to cart yourself out to Raleigh to buy Arab /…read moreMiddle Eastern groceries? Long gone are those days thanks to this place! Excellent selection of Arab / Middle Eastern / Mediterranean / Asian goods. They have a great variety of both the standard staples, such as chick peas, bread, seasonings, yogurts, cheeses, frozen goods, and other raw or prepared ingredients, but also have more nuanced items you might not have seen in a long time had you grown up elsewhere and moved to the US. I don't have to go and order things online anymore. Additionally they have a butcher that has fresh meats that are also halal if you're Muslim. I haven't ever had their meats, and am not Muslim, but I know where to go if I need lamb or goat on special occasions. They don't really have produce beyond some shelf stable items, but that excluded, it's pretty much an oasis. Finally, the store is kept clean, well stocked, and organized. I've never been in there with items I need missing. They recently did a facelift on the front of the store and it looks awesome, very modern and inviting. The owners and their sons are super friendly, extremely kind, even offering to special order things I ask about, and are always in a helpful / cheerful mood! Would HIGHLY recommend stopping in to anyone looking for things they need, or just wanting to see what a Middle Eastern store looks like!

Our waiter was a nice guy (didn't get name, longer hair and mustache) and was attentive without being intrusive. They have a really good wine selection. This review is offered as constructive feedback to the staff, management, and ownership of a restaurant we want to see succeed. Today we stopped in during Sunday brunch and placed a takeout order for one pound of brisket and jambalaya. The wait was approximately an hour. I understand that brunch is busy, and the restaurant appeared to be working with two servers, a bartender, a busser, and several people in the kitchen. The front-of-house staff seemed to be doing what they could. The issue appears to be kitchen execution and order flow. Operationally, an order consisting primarily of slicing a pound of already-prepared brisket and portioning jambalaya should not remain in the same production queue for an hour. This is less a staffing criticism than a process problem. Management may want to look at ticket prioritization, a dedicated expediter during peak periods, separation of simple takeout orders from full dine-in tickets, and clearer ownership of orders from receipt through handoff. When the food is already prepared, throughput should be measured in minutes, not an hour. That matters because a restaurant can have excellent food and hardworking people and still lose customers through a bottleneck in the process. The objective shouldn't be to make everyone work harder; it should be to design the kitchen flow so the same people can work smarter and move appropriate orders through faster. Parking has also become increasingly difficult and is worth considering as the restaurant continues to draw a crowd. None of this changes what we enjoy about Succotash. We love the food, the music, the authenticity and the character of the place. We'll be back. But an hour for this particular takeout order points to an operational problem worth fixing. Great food deserves equally great execution.
