One day when I was at the store, this sushi place caught my eye. Seeing as how I'm a lover of sushi, I had to try it. Dragging someone along, we immediately entered the perfect atmosphere for eating sushi: and Americanized Japanese feel. Sports tvs, pieces of art that look handmade, cute little dividers that turn a table for two into a table for eight or twelve in seconds. The staff is friendly, greets you and seats you right away if they can. Immediately hand you a menu and get you started on drinks and provide the materials for all you can eat sushi, even if you choose not to use it. Every server has knowledge about the menu and can answer any and all questions with ease. The Las Vegas roll was a smooth and comfortable ride. The fried roll had a small chunk of cream cheese rolled into it and it gives the savory taste of the dish something to stand on as you chewed. It made it feel like the rice was snowboarding on it highly recommend it. The sake was cold and the perfect size for one person to enjoy throughout their whole meal. The calamari was amazing. Fresh and hot with a tangy sauce and just the right amount of chew, it tasted like I should've paid much more than I did. All around my experience was phenomenal. read more

I go here sometimes since it's so close to home. But more and more frequently they've become that "AYCE Sushi with tons of rice" spot so it's difficult to satisfy that craving of eating all the salmon I'd like to have. Salmon has also started to diminish in quality. Best to head down to that spot in Calimesa... much better sushi there and they don't jiff you (at least nowhere close to this spot). Hmmm. Dinner at Tokyo tonight left my husband and I with quite a lackluster feeling. It wasn't just the sushi. We got home late, then rushed over to Tokyo (sushi). We got there just before 9pm and there was one other table occupied. The sushi chef there is not winning any conversation awards, though we knew that from the last few times we've been there. Not a huge deal. Only this time, the waitresses came by once after 5 minutes. We wanted to ask them whether we were going to be served soup and salad like they did in the past. If not, no big deal, but we at least just wanted to ask. The sushi chef was engrossed in the college football game on TV at the other end of the bar. We marked our sheet, got our rolls and em, they appeared quite a bit smaller than we recall, and no, we were not just exceptionally hungry that our eyes were bigger. Last few times, the flavors of the rolls stood out. Not this time unfortunately. When we neared eating the end of our order, we wanted to order 1 more. However, no one came by to ask if we wanted more, how we were doing, etc. And the chef feverishly worked at putting the remaining fish in the display case back in the fridge. Sooo, we left a little hungry and went home to have tea. Oh, and when the waitress finally did come around, we asked her about the soup and salad that had before come complimentary. Too pricey, to be serving imitation crab as the filler. The Philadelphia roll was basically crab with a thin sliver of salmon on top... Worst philly ever. The reasoning for the horrible rating is because the service was nonexistent. They ignored our request for napkins, water, etc. the waitress would even look at the empty water and not care. Then make sure not to make eye contact with us when she KNEW we were trying to get her. I asked for napkins three times... THREE TIMES. Then she only brought 4... Then on our all you can eat, we kept saying "we never got our tempura." They brought the check. "We're still waiting on our tempura." Said it 5 times and finally it clicked and they brought it. After we paid and checked out ... We left no tip, which I never do. But this place was AWFUL. read more

Great sushi! The best AYCE I've had in a long time. This is the first restaurant that I've been to in Yucaipa that is really great. The service is friendly and on top of your orders. The sushi is fresh and delicious. Anyone who hasn't been here before needs to try the Dragon ball appetizer. Its essentially all of the ingredients of a California roll stuffed into an avocado, lightly battered and deep fried. Definitely something that looks like it was created completely by accident, but it works. I'll definitely be returning here very soon. read more

I had James as a chef and he did a really good job. It wasn't very busy so everything was really good and fast. The soup and salad were really good and the ginger tasted really awesome as well. I would definitely come back here. James was very nice and even gave me a speciality roll because no one else was in the store and I dig that. Most of the reviews on here seem to be about service more then the actual food and I'd say the food and service were pretty good. My waitress really didn't seem to caring but an above average waitress for sure. I will come back after workouts. Very good service we go when its less crowded for they don't have much help during the day but its way slower busy on friday nights and weekends but service is deff good and sushi is great Favorites: lobster roll Japanese burrito spicy tuna inside and paper outside delicious Rainbow and Boston.... She argued with the shushi chief probably about me ordering the fish..... All you can eat should be what I choose..... That was my first round I should have had two more rounds but she avoided me.... Only two other tables were in the restaurant she took her time to avoid me i sat with no food for 30mins and by then I was mad she said oh sorry and I felt like they couldn't afford the second round so I said no more for me and left to never return to this place......they must be in trouble because she avoided me and was a horrible experience this was my first time treated like this at sushi restaurant and I'm not going back... :( read more

What a mess! The food was allright but like others have said, customer service is a joke. 5 of us spent $100 for dinner - 3 all you can eat. We were stuffed after two of our 3 allowed rounds (BTW-Is that really All You Can Eat?? What if we weren't full after that?) When we couldnt eat another bite there were about 5 slices left of the 9 rolls (plus sashimi) ordered. I asked for a to-go box and was told no- you cant take anything home. I asked" So even though I paid for it and cant finish it, I can't take this little bit home? ?" Waitress acted really uncomfortable and deffered to the manager. I asked the same question and got the same answer. Then I actually said " So you are going to throw this away instead of letting me take my unfinished dinner home??!!" She said "Yes we throw away. You cannot take it home." I said "Even though I paid for it??" She replied "Yes even though". I said "Well this is the last time I ever come here" and she replied " Ok thanks for coming." The rule is obviously so that people dont get to the third round and order a ton of food for tomorrow's lunch. That makes sense and youd have to be a little selfish to do that anyway!!!! This was obviously the last 5 bites that 5 people couldn't possibly stuff down. Rather than throw good food away, you let your customers take it home!! I say you need an IQ test before they let you near the rule book. One should be able to discern the intention of the rule, and apply it to every circumstace!!!! If you aren't smart enough to not insult your customers intelligence then you don't deserve business. The food was pretty good. I personally will never spend another dollar there. Every time I go here I have a wonderful experience. The rolls are always tasty (not to much rice) and the service is great. If you sit a the Sushi Bar the chefs are real attentive. Most of the time I am handed Delicious FREE samples (creations the chef made).. The last thing he created melted in my mouth. Heavenly!! Wow I have never been to a sushi restaurant and had such a horrible experience after paying $120. Sushi tasted OLD and like it was sitting out too long and heated with a microwave, same goes for the rice. Rice was falling off roll cause it wasn't rolled right and falling apart once it was touched. The lobster and crab tasted old microwaved rubbery fish. Because we brought it home for dinner and was unable to eat in there we had to throw 90% of it away cause it was so bad!!!! will never do that again or ever go here again!!! If you want expensive sushi that's old and microwaved this is your place!! Called the place to complain and they could care less. Great to know they care about their customers!! I always get all you can eat. They put too much rice in their nigiri and slice their fish too thin. For what they serve I feel that the price for all you can eat is too much. Their rolls are decent and their service is decent. I love Yellow Tail and their yellow tail tasted spoiled/rottened. Keep in mind, me being an avid ninja sushi eater from Las Vegas, my standard for sushi is higher than locals here. 2 ninja stars is what I throw at this restaurant. Although Tokyo used to be our go to for sushi it has since fallen off our list completely. Over time the service and quality of food degraded considerably so we sought out new places to go. Found another local sushi place that we are thrilled with so we rarely came back. As our new go to is closed for renovations and we were missing sushi we came back to Tokyo and are sorry we did. Although the service was friendly, the waitress made a mistake in our order, the rolls came out sporadically even though there were only 4-6 other customers, and the rolls were not adequately prepared (they fell apart as they were picked up). Sad to see this happen but after giving it several tries over a year, we placed it in the 'no go' list. read more

The waitress brought out my Crunch roll and asked me if I order a "shrimp thing" and later with our eel rolls we noticed the Eel sauce or what they called "be sauce" was not what it should have been. My family and I planned to eat here on a Sunday for early dinner. We called on Saturday to confirm they would be open the next day and to ask what time. The hostess said they would be open at 3 on Sunday. We showed up at 345 on Sunday and the door was locked and the lights were off. No sign to the front advising they weren't open. My husband and I love this place! We have been here at least a dozen times and have always had top notch service with no extended waits. Some of the white servers don't know what some of the items are or how to describe them, which is ridiculous. If you're going to have a job, at least know what you're talking about! This place is a hole in the wall so the decor and ambience isn't the best. The sushi is excellent though. We have always had very good tasting sushimi and sushi with no problems on size, girth, taste or freshness. The creativity on the menu is much better than other places in the IE as well. I love the big bear mtn roll and the seaweed salad combo plate (four diff kinds of seaweed salad). If you can put the sushi away, get the all you can eat. Soda's are from cans, and its like 2 bucks with zero refills. Get tea or drink water or beer. Prices are NOT overpriced at all and are very reasonable for the quality and quantity you're getting. They are priced as any other sushi place in the IE. I have seen this place with no seating on several occassions so they must be doing something right. The place sucks! The sushi takes for eeevvveeer! Don't order the all you can eat because it's not worth it! The rolls are way to big for all you can eat and the sashimi has sooo much rice that china's supply is being threatened! Usually i eat plenty but with all the rice i got, i was full with two rolls! We have been going to Tokyo since before the Yucaipa location existed. The staff knew us as they rotated from Redlands to Yucaipa. The sushi chef always recognized us. We were probably there 3-4 times a month. The service and food quality was consistantly excellent. Sometime in 2013 we started seeing a failing in the quality of the food. We still kept going back. In 2014 we stopped going on a regular basis eventually deciding not to go at all. A couple of weeks ago, we ate at Tokyo in Redlands and were very pleased. Tonight, we wanted sushi and didn't want to leave Yucaipa so we considered the Redlands experience and decided to try the Yucaipa location again. The service was mostly non-existent. Beer arrived warm with no glasses. Appetizer arrived with no plates. Napkins had to be requested. Rice came too early, entree came before the salad. We are tolerant of a servers obvious lack of control but this seemed business as usual. The food: The soft shell crab tasted as though it had been there for a very long time. Being a bit hesitant, we got three orders of sushi to start with. Just before they arrived, I saw the sushi chef pull out a plastic container and take a couple of spoonfuls out. I thought it was salmon roe. As I continued to watch, I realized that whatever it was it was coming to us. It turns out it was our scallops. The slices of fish were so thin I told my husband that it looked like they had a deli meat slicer in the back. I continued to watch the sushi counter and realized that I had not seen a knife. I then saw the chef reach into the chilled display and peel off two pre-sliced pieces of fish. I was slightly in disbelief so I kept watching and all of the fish that came out of the display was pre sliced. No sushi chef slicing fish here tonight. Now, the seaweed salad which has always been a favorite of ours at Tokyo. It arrived looking like a full plate like we're used to. As we stated pushing it around with the chopsticks, we found a white mound underneath. I looked at it and thought of Pho rice vermicelli. My husband heard me say that and got excited and took a big bite. He started gagging and grabbed a plate, turned from the dining room and spit it out. "That is not vermicelli, that is rotten daikon". I don't understand how anyone in a restaurant kitchen could have knowingly put that on a plate to serve to a human. It was not a fermented delicacy, it was rotten. We complained and it was removed from the bill with no acknowledgement. We advise that if you are looking for sushi avoid this place. read more

I went for lunch on a Saturday and was surprised to see a place with so many good reviews so empty. I ordered the Inland Lunch Combo, which came with a spicy tuna roll, 1/2 california roll, and 4 pieces of sashimi (ahi tuna and salmon). The restaurant was nice and clean, the staff was friendly, and food was presented very nicely, but... The ahi sashimi was not fresh. The texture was dry and rubbery and it tasted like refrigerator. The spicy tuna roll didn't taste too fresh either, and had an odd smoky flavor (perhaps bonita flakes?). Even the California roll had a little bit of a funk to it (too much mayonnaise?). One final qualm (and I may be overly harsh here) but the sushi was rolled really, really tightly, almost like it was compressed with one of those "cheater" sushi making boxes rather than rolled by hand. It could be that other reviewers ate more complex rolls with lots of sauces/toppings that masked the less than fresh fish, or it could have just been an off day, but I probably wont be back. read more

The food is gross and not Fresh! the service is horrible the chef never even acknowledged us and we had to ask for the all you can eat menu after we had been seated for about ten minutes. Did not get our drinks refilled unless we flagged down the waitress and when we went to pay the girl walked away leaving our card at the front and no one knew what receipt was ours or who's card belonged to who. Yucaipa has an abundance of two types of businesses: car washes and sushi restaurants. That being said, Tokyo Sushi, located by Fitness 19, offers great tasting sushi in Yucaipa and is arguably the best sushi restaurant in town. You'll find all the traditional dishes, rolls, and combination plates you are used to at any major sushi restaurant. Service is always friendly and the atmosphere is casual- just a lot of Yucaipans looking for some good Japanese food! Price is below what you'd pay at a "fancier ambiance" sushi restaurant and the place is always nice and clean. For Asian restaurants you get an idea of the cleanliness by looking at the fish tank...and Tokyo's is always immaculate. If you're in the mood for some good Japanese food make sure to roll on over to Tokyo! read more

I think they recently changed ownership or management and even though we liked it before, we really like it now. We go about once a month and the service was great, quick and friendly. We always eat sushi and try one new roll (in addition to our usual Tuna handroll and Philly roll). The waiter recommended a Kani Kani roll and it was very very good. We always start with the tiny house salad with green dressing and it is delicious. The atmosphere is great, too. I would recommend that you try it at least once. The owner is awesome, she knows my 5 year old daughter on a first name basis and doesnt blink an eye when she's tormenting the fish at the tank for 20 mins. strait! She knows exactly what we like and through broken english suggests new rolls and dishes as well as asks us how we are, life love and all!!! THE SUSHI IS GREAT!!!!
