I was extremely disappointed with my experience at SUGIOS Sushi. When our sushi came out, the presentation was completely off and some of the food looked old and unappetizing. One of the rolls was absolutely drowned in hot sauce to the point that I couldn't even eat it. I immediately told our waitress there was a problem with the food, but instead of trying to fix the situation or offer a replacement, she did nothing. Her attitude was rude and dismissive, which made an already bad experience even worse. Scrutiny needs to be brought against this business for their predatory behavior. It's been brought to my attention on my visit here that the owner takes ALL of the servers' tips here. They confiscate it (even cash tips must be handed over to owner or the server gets in trouble) and then redistribute it on the employees' checks (not just the servers), probably even keeping some for themselves. The server who the customer intends to leave the tip to doesn't receive that money directly which is a violation of California Fair Labor Standards Act. I will be bringing this to the Labor divisions attention and have legal action taken against this business. Sushi restaurants are notorious for this behavior. If you want to ensure the tip you're leaving goes directly to your server I would ask for their venmo account or give the cash directly to the server in front of the owner and let the owner know they are not allowed to touch this money that doesn't belong to them. I, as a customer, have paid my bill to the owner. The tip I leave is for the server and that server alone. read more

Instead, I received only four pieces altogether. When I called, the manager argued that each order only comes with two pieces. We ordered the teriyaki chicken dinner plate, spicy chicken dinner plate, and fried calamari as an appetizer. The calamari came with 6-7 small pieces covered in a thick layer of badder that overpowered the taste. Both chicken plates were bland. We were one of two families in the restaurant and service was still slow to come. Place appeared clean and the service we did get was nice. But both the edamame and jalapeños got cold quick . There were only two servers and both were just quick to take your or just get whatever you need done and quickly. So not much guest service. I understand it's only you two and I use to work in the food industry as a a server so understand when you are short staffed. Either way red dragon roll was pretty good. I tore it up very quickly, granted all three dishes we got we shared . Oh yeah the hot tea we didn't care for, it tasted like it was burnt or had been sitting there. But it was still hot. So they have quite a menu with different options which is a good selection. So it might have been an off night but the experience and food was alright. The inside is nice and spacious. The restaurant had its struggles during the pandemic with the social distancing and being under expansion construction. It overcame all those issues and is like a butterfly out of its cocoon. The dining room has a 4-star look with a small town feel. When it's not too busy, you can sit wherever you want, booth or table. If you're looking for a job, they have a help wanted sign up which might mean they are under staffed. Although my order of the Rainbow roll and the Albacore spicy roll got to my table in a timely manner. The fish was fresh, rolls made to order and price wasn't too expensive. I enjoyed my time at Sugoi sushi. We came in and were sat right away. It's nice and cool in here on a hot day. I felt like the food came out quickly. It did come out weirdly in spurts but it was fine. The sushi rolls were a little different than what I'm used to in terms of how they're made traditionally, they still tasted yummy though. I highly recommend Sugoi one of my favorite spots for sushi if you happen to be in Beaumont, CA. I would also highly recommend number 19 I believe it's Popcorn shrimp on top of a Cali roll (to die for). I received the order at the requested pick-up timed provided by the Sugoi sushi chef. As a result my order was soggy, which is bad for sushi rolls. I think the chef forgot that the customer will eat with their eyes first. My order was sloppy, soggy, and unattractive. This poorly impacted the flavor profile for me. At the time of writing this review the place has gone under new management and they are currently doing a Grand Opening month special. Great service, food was amazing and the vibe was fine. I have been to many sushi places around Redlands, Loma Linda, San Bernardino and Ontario. This place is definitely one of the better ones. The dishes I ordered to get such a review was Popcorn Lobster Roll, Sushi Burritos, Miso Soup and Rainbow Roll. All were fresh and great quality. I was really surprised by how good this place was. My wife and I were visiting relatives and staying at the nearby hotel. Had a sushi craving and this place was just across the street. We loved our sushi, absolutely delicious. For some reason sushi restaurants in California put escolar on everything, make sure you never eat escolar. Food and drinks are reasonably priced and the sushi is decent. It' a large venue so no reservations needed. My only complaint about this place is that it is super hot!
