I remember coming into this place Jan of 2025. They were new, friendly, but frankly half empty on a Friday night. I sensed something exciting was going to happen -- but relying entirely on word of mouth. Flash-forward to early 2026, where readers of the local weekly paper named this the Best Sushi of Redlands. I was so excited, and as my visit last week demonstrates -- things have only improved. KYO SUSHI was packed at 5PM on a Tuesday. Not only slammed, but standing room only. I don't know what happened but I'm so happy for them. Two subtle changes have happened and I'm all for them. A LOCAL NEWS channel sharing dreadful stories on the TV has been swapped for hi-def reels of lovely Asian spots, making our escape from the crazy world we live in complete. As an extra touch, we are now treated to soothing jazz, which helps in a room with so many happy customers. A special shout out to Sia, who greets regulars like family and will help you get exactly what you need. Hi to Wendy and the new young lady, all keeping a close eye on customer happiness. I believe KYO is on the brink of having outgrown this location, but a lease is likely keeping them there for a while. It's a shame they can't move next door into the old Von's location -- lol -- because what a place that would be. Enough room in their to farm the fish. Pro Tip -- try the Megan Fox roll! read more

Kyo Sushi was okay. I may have gone in with higher expectations because of the 4.7 rating on Yelp, but overall it felt a little overhyped. The roll presentation was very good, and visually the food looked great. The plates came out clean, colorful, and nicely arranged. Flavor-wise though, the rolls were fairly bland. The house mayo tasted like regular mayo, which isn't necessarily bad, but I guess I was expecting something with a little more going on, maybe closer to a spicy mayo or some kind of signature sauce. We also ordered a Philly roll, but were brought the Philly "Pro" instead. The Pro is deep fried, which I wasn't expecting, and I took a bite without realizing how hot it was and almost burned my mouth. I did mention that "Philly roll" and "Philly Pro" are close enough in name that I could see wrong orders happening pretty easily. Service was direct and decent. Nothing bad, just more to-the-point than warm or memorable. I'd probably give this place another shot, because it seemed like we may have gotten caught in a rush all at once. I stumbled upon this place on Yelp while visiting the Umbrella Alley in Redlands. Honestly, I didn't have high expectations, but I was so pleasantly surprised! The interior was very cute and clean. The wallpaper was very nicely done and authentic. The lunch was incredibly fresh and delicious, and the server was so kind and welcoming. It made my day so much better. Yesterday, Saturday, May 9th, I went to Redlands with my family, and we had lunch at Kyo Sushi. We had gone to Redlands because we heard there was a pretty spot with beautiful umbrellas, and we wanted to check it out. But then my mom suddenly got really hungry, so we looked for a nearby place to have lunch. My brother found this restaurant and said it had high Yelp ratings, and since my mom likes sushi, he suggested this place and we tried it. We ordered the lunch specials: three sushi combos and one sushi & sashimi combo. All of the combos came with miso soup and california rolls. All of the sushi here was really delicious, and the California rolls that came with the sushi were also very tasty. The wasabi was shaped like a flower, which looked very pretty and was a nice touch. The staff were also very friendly and kind. The cucumber pickles and ginger were extremely fresh and delicious as well. Everything we had was tasty, and the service was friendly, so I really liked this Japanese restaurant. If it were closer to home, this would definitely be a place I would come to often. This spot is an honest 4.5 for me. And it honestly came down to the salmon sushi. I know what true buttery salmon is like and unfortunately it just missed the mark. That being said, edamame is great. We got the spicy garlic. Perfectly balanced for both of those flavor profiles. I really enjoyed the calamari! Not at all chewy and that was my biggest worry when ordering. It was my first time to Kyo Sushi it did not disappoint. I arrived a few minutes after it opened for the day and it was already getting busy. The service of the staff was friendly and welcoming. I have enjoyed coming here over the year. The staff is friendly and very attentive. They make great recommendations on rolls too if you're not sure what you want. We love the shishito pepper appetizer. It's the perfect amount of spice! My husband likes to pick a different roll each time and he's loved each one. I like to get the bento box. The sushi here is of good quality, and everything tastes fresh. The dining area is small, but well kept and clean. I can't believe that this place is so close to me! Great quality fish, generous portions, and amazing service. The place is very intimate, with small tables. Be mindful of that when you're ordering multiple rolls. We had to rearrange the items on the table quite frequently, but I personally am willing to overlook the inconvenience when I know the food is amazing. Some friends recommended this sushi place - its fairly under new management. Since this is our first time so we usually asked the staff what would they recommend or their favorite. So we ordered Fantasy roll, Washington (street, State or DC?) J/K and the no rice Moon River. Let me just say I think those are the 3 best we've ever had. They are fresh, refreshing and the combination they have in the roll are complemented each other well. The presentation of each rolls are very nicely done aesthetically. Last chicken stir fried udon noodles yakisoba seasoning with small slices of onion, zucchini, canbbage, broccoli, and chicken, served on a sizzling cast iron skillet- exactly what i've been looking for! Very pleased with this sushi spot in Redlands under new ownership! Really cute and clean inside. It is very cozy and the sushi bar is also quite small. Although it looked like only one person was working the dining room, the server was extremely efficient. We only had to wait a minute or two and the server brought everyone waters and we were able to place our food order shortly after. The menu is pretty big with a range of different options such as: Ramen noodles, sushi combos, a variety of rolls, and even lunch specials. We enjoyed our crunch roll, golden tiger roll, and the rainbow roll. My two boys both started with hot miso soup as an appetizer as well which they both said was good. I also love the presentation of the hot tea with a little teapot. I would definitely come back since I enjoyed the service and the quality of the sushi. Terrible experience here and definitely not coming back. I had a client dinner tonight and accidentally left my sunglasses at the table. I returned less than 20 minutes later and asked our server if she had seen them--she said no. I then asked if she could check with the busser or the other staff working, but she never followed up and just told me she'd call me if they turned up. After waiting hours with no update, I had to call the restaurant myself. The same server was dismissive and insisted I must have lost them somewhere else, even though the people I was dining with saw me walk in wearing them. I politely asked if they could review the cameras, and she said they would and would call me back shortly. That never happened. I called again and was then told the cameras "don't record" or were "full," which honestly sounded suspicious. When I expressed my frustration and mentioned that I've spent a significant amount of money here over the past few months bringing in clients, the server became argumentative and rude. With so many other sushi restaurants in the area that actually value their customers, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more
