We went to Yamaava casino for a few days and I was craving sushi but wasn't too familiar with the area. So, of course, I look on Yelp and came across Nko Niko sushi, which is regarded as one of the best sushi spots in Redlands. I actually went as far as double checking on reddit and the votes were definitely in! This place seemed legit so I had to try it. It's located in a shopping plaza so there is plenty of parking. There are several restaurants in the area, while Niko Niko is tucked away near the water fountains out front. As I arrived, they quickly sat me at the bar area and my typical rainbow roll and I tried their snow cone roll. The rolls were so good and the fish was fresh! I loved the sweet sauce that was added to the snow cone roll. After about 20 mins, the chef, who's name is Yaser, started asking me what my favorite fish is and why I like it. I told him Albacore and he instantly makes me some concoction with ponzu sauce which was fire. He then asked me if I like salmon and I told him yes and he makes me a seared salmon roll with orange sauce and pepper. By this time I'm stuffed but enjoying this experience. He made going to a sushi restaurant interesting again like when I first tried sushi. We start talking about Japan and he ask me if I ever had salmon skin. I tell him absolutely not and that when I bake salmon I usually take the skin off. He then tells me that I HAVE to try a salmon skin handroll so I figured I should just go with it. My mind was blown!! I actually like salmon skin lol. It was so good! Overall, I had an amazing experience at Niko Niko and Chef Yaser. I left him a generous tip for the experience and he changed the way I will forever dine at a sushi bar now. 2nd time I've been here but it has been years, great menu, affordable, wonderful customer service from the waitresses, small restaurant, clean and quiant with a small sushi bar to sit at. The hostess could be friendlier as I stopped in a 2nd time after this visit to pick up a Bento box for hibby to go. I would definitely return. We used to come here a few times a week, and it's still our favorite sushi spot! Unfortunately, we just don't come nearly as often anymore because of the credit card surcharge. As a previous business owner, I completely understand that businesses have expenses and that credit card processing comes with a cost. I also understand not wanting to absorb those fees. That being said, it's hard not to notice when the surcharge is added to credit card purchases, especially when debit doesn't have the same surcharge. It's honestly unfortunate because we used to bring friends here all the time, especially friends who were new to sushi, because we loved introducing people to this place. I'm sure we aren't the only customers who have adjusted how often we visit because of the added fee, which ultimately means a loss of potential business as well. My box had a lot of salad and not enough dressing. I like the texture of the tempura. It was light and crunchy, but I was disappointed that it was 3 pieces of potatoes and 2 shrimp. There was no variety of vegetable. And 5 pieces? U came for dinner and was expecting more than 5 pieces. I enjoyed the sashimi. Usually I don't like tuna because it tastes frozen and fishy. I do think they are quite pricey as I often like to try a couple rolls and the price for two was close to $30 for me, BUT it was so good! I tried the Midori Nori which was good, but the star of the show was the Ninja Turtles! That one was amazing. Next time I'm for sure getting that roll. I lovvveee tempura rolls and this one did not disappoint. I especially like that it was a variety of different tempura vegetables and not just one (usually sweet potato is the only one I see for tempura veggie rolls). They are big and filling too. The others with me only got one roll and I understand paying $15ish for just one roll because with that and an appetizer or dessert you should be decently full. I like that I left there full, but not heavy full like I often do from other food. I also appreciate that you get complimentary edamame, but they had other types of edamame that sounded so good. I honestly would have gotten one if they didn't already give us edamame. Regardless, I think I'll still order one next time as I don't care much for regular salted edamame. This is one of the best sushi restaurants in the area. The locals all know this spot. A local gem. They do a lot of business with a high turnover so the fish is always fresh. The service is always fast and efficient. Complementary edamame comes out when you arrive. The portions are generous and they offer and all you can eat menu. Beer comes out cold with cold glasses. I would say you get seated and orders come out quick, but the wait staff doesn't circle back around to clear plates too often. I love this place and will definitely be going back. You definitely get your moneys worth because 2 rolls are huuuge and will fill you up real quick. My favorites are the Hungry Roll and Genki Roll. Next, the food is good, but even the cold rolls come out pretty warm and that wasn't awesome... I just went here in the last couple weeks for a birthday dinner with girlfriends. I enjoyed this place. It felt like a typical sushi restaurant on the inside, but it was a little more lively. The sushi was good, and I also enjoyed the seaweed salad, which was super fresh. The miso soup came in a nice large bowl so the portion was good. I would've given five stars except that we repeatedly had a hard time getting our servers attention and had to go out of our way to flag someone down for chopsticks, to order additional stuff, to get the check at the end, etc.. they actually brought the food out and had forgotten our miso soup initially, so we got that somewhere in the middle of the meal. While the tables are a bit close together, there is a quiet hum of happy diners and foodie energy. The staff was attentive and personable. Their website menu has good quality pictures of their table menus. So if you're at home, I'd go there for looking up their menu items. We started with the complimentary Edamame. The beans were lightly stir fried with seasoning and salt. The seasoning was very mild. This was served in a relatively small bowl, see pic. We followed the Edamame with the Fuji Roll. This roll is topped with salmon and inside is baked salmon, crabmeat and avocado. The ingredients were fresh, but as with mild fish and mild avocado, the roll, by itself, was fairly bland. We used a fair amount of the sauces and wasabi to provide some needed punch to this roll. We ended with the flavorful Disco Shrimp Roll. This roll is baked, and served warm - the first bite was a surprise since I was sub-conscientiously expecting a cold roll. But it was good. This is topped with shrimp, spicy orange and eel sauce. Neither the spicy orange nor eel sauce were strong by themselves. The inside has spicy crabmeat, scallop, baby shrimp and avocado. The warmth of the roll and spiciness was a good combination of excitement without being over powering. No additional sauces were needed. Everything was good except I spat something out of my mouth from the miso soup not sure if it was hair but still gross then I found a bug in there too.. they did replace it but still that's disgusting they need to pay attention to what's falling in their food because ppl can get sick.
