This is one of the best things to do in Cincinnati. There is an open karaoke stage. The people there are a lot of fun, we ended up getting a bunch of girls to sing Fergalicious with us. For $60-$200 an hour (6-13 people) you get a private room with unlimited songs that you control with an iPad. Price is absurd and you're only paying for ambiance. Room reservations are placed online and don't tell you an estimated total. That lead to some misunderstandings with my booking. It's $50 per hour for a small room, not $50 for the maximum booking of 2 hours. They only mention that once and it's in the wrong spot. I make $9 an hour so that was a punch in the face. I booked 30 mins before and there's a cancelation fee of $50. We were the only ones there - I'm not paying that. There's technically a cleaning fee, they factor in 15 minutes of time on your dollar for the room. I didn't eat or drink in my room - let me sing for those 15 minutes I paid for. THEN there's a 20% gratuity fee. The guy that brought me to my room wasn't that nice. Why would I practically tip him for walking me 20 feet forward? Bartender was just okay. They're friendly, but all bartenders are friendly. I also got one drink and my final total from the whole stay was $84. How's that acceptable? Seriously I will never be back or recommend to anyone. Everyone looked like they were having a great time! There's the main bar/club area in front, or you can book a room for you and your friends. We reserved a karaoke room; small room with personal service and a dumb-waiter type contraption that serves drinks out of the ceiling! (I was told we would be served by robots, not quite correct.) If you like to sing and belt out tunes in public, or do it privately in a paid room, this is the place for you! Businesses solely dedicated to this hobby I have witnessed closed down due to enough patrons however, there is a bar inside you can drink if you do not want to sing. I was on travel and wanted to find a place to eat and stumbled upon this. When I went in, there was maybe 3 people there drinking and no one singing?! Guess what, I proceeded to request song after song after song and got to sing to my heart's content. After a good 45 minutes, I was running out of songs and my voice started to slip so I kindly tipped the KJ and headed back. It may have been more fun if there were some Vietnamese songs and a person or two who would take turns but no biggie! Had a great time and what a fun way to reduce stress and end the night. My friends and I have been long time customers of this bar and have always had a good experience renting their private rooms, however, this time they cut us off halfway through our allotted time and didn't even tell us why. after we asked why it's because we put trash in the drink receptacle even though there is no trash can in the room or anywhere to discard trash. Communication would have been very much appreciated with our group to let us know what went wrong and to not do in the future however we were treated disrespectfully by staff and by management. Tokyo Kitty is a bit odd, which I think is exactly what they are trying to go for. The room you enter looks like a Japanese travel agency. The next room you go into is dark and full of mirrors. Then you finally enter into the main bar, which includes American style karaoke. You can also rent private rooms, where your drinks will be served by a "robot," which is more or less a tray that gets lowered down from a hole in the ceiling. Renting out a room for a party can be real fun with the right crowd. It is nice because you can bring in your own food or cake if the situation calls for it. You can enter in your song choices by smart phone, which nice because you don't have to fight over who gets to look at the song list. There is a mouse you can use to control the main thing screen, but ours did not work well. You also order drinks from the phone. The orders seemed to come reasonably fast, but you need to make sure not to stand where the tray drops down. If you don't want to use online payment, you'll have to go to the bar. The energy in the main room seemed good while I was there, but oddly the lyrics for the crowd to read are on the opposite side of the room from the singer. This is disappointing for people who really ham up their karaoke acts because it causes everybody to look away from the stage. Had a great time on a Friday evening celebrating a friend's boyfriend's birthday. We reserved a private room were greeted right away, walked back to the room, explained how to order drinks either online or through service and then started karaoke. Note the one hour in the room flies by, when you have a group come prepared with some songs you want to do, so you can be more efficient with your time. There was a delay in the karaoke system between songs which we felt was taking up some time in the room. We rented a room for the first time (we tried to walk in and get a room the first time but none were available) which was such a cool, unique experience. I gave Tokyo Kitty a 4 for their rented karaoke rooms, not for the actual karaoke bar (I'd rate that less..). *Oh, also a suggestion- the karaoke systems in the room aren't necessarily very helpful for choosing what songs to sing. I had a feeling about this place from a couple of times before when I was visiting friends in Cincy and walked past Tokyo Kitty. I wanted to go inside right then but it was around 10 or 11 in the morning and not open. I had no idea what it was from the looks of the outside and the few things that I made eye contact with from the sidewalk. Like, I think I mostly thought it was a really hip currency exchange place with a fetish for Hello Kitty and other cute Japanese shit. Little did I know that I would soon be walking inside of this place and feeling like I had fallen into a treasure chest. Yes, seriously. The drinks are so reasonably priced. The karaoke dj is nice and they have a massive selection of songs to choose from. Wireless mics that allow you to walk all around the front part of this bar really make the experience even better than you could imagine. They have the words scrolling across the bottom of a huge projection screen that also shows a video at the same time. As if this place could get any better...they have private karaoke party rooms, ya'll! 5 or so uniquely themed rooms ready to help you sing, dance, and drink the night away. Complete with wigs (I swear I saw a room with several waiting to be worn). Oh, and they respect your privacy so much that they deliver your drinks via a robot that goes from the bar to you! What a funky fun place for something different to do in downtown Cincy! We came here later on a Saturday night so unfortunately were not able to get one of the private rooms. I have to say despite that, we still had a blast! I am by no means a club person, but the main room here was one of the best vibes I have experienced anywhere around here in a long time. There was a DJ who was spinning versions of 90s songs all night, even Wonderwall! Every last person in the place was dancing and having a great time! Several times break dancing broke out, and a dance circle formed. Everyone was cheering each other on whether they knew one another or not. The draft beers were pretty good, decent selection. Everyone should go at least once. I went on a Friday night, if you plan to sing, get there early. Karaoke ends at 11 and then it's just a dance club. Prepare to be transported to Japan when you step inside Tokyo Kitty (as you would expect from the owners and creators of other themed area bars like Video Archive and Overlook Lodge). Peaking through the windows doesn't give away much because the only thing visible from the outside is the "waiting room" which looks like an airport terminal complete with signs for the "currency exchange" (i.e. money for a drink) and security regulations (i.e. showing a valid ID), as well as those terribly uncomfortable airport chairs that we all know and love. Once you make it through to the main bar, you begin to get a feel for the Japanese culture. Through some previous research, I had heard that the private rooms were the way to go - especially if you were looking to karaoke (they don't have karaoke in the main room on weekend nights) - so I reserved a space for us about two weeks in advance.There was limited availability when I looked, so definitely make sure you plan ahead! The cost panned out to about $5 per person, which ended up being worth every penny. We were a little skeptical about how much fun it would be to karaoke with a small group of friends for just an hour, but all our qualms went away when we got into our room - the 'Star Room'. Each room is themed differently where private parties are randomly assigned (i.e. you are not allowed to select which room you want, adding to the surprise!) Ours had very limited decor aside from the shelf of pink wigs (the boys had a hay-day with those), but others have Godzilla or Lost in Translation themes - ensuring every visit is unique. The song selection is controlled by an iPad... as is the ordering of drinks. GUYS, THE DRINKS DESCEND FROM THE CEILING. Hands down the most futuristic thing I had ever seen. The drinks were moderately priced ($8-10 for a specialty cocktail) and super delicious. You can also order pizza from MidiCi, which is right next door.
