My mom has ate at Bourbon & Brew many times and recommended it, so we gave it a shot. This restaurant is centered in the middle of the gaming area. It features quite a bit of tables, bar seating, and limited booths. The booths are reserved for larger parties. They have a spot behind the bar for live music and have a huge TV above the bar for watching sporting events with many other smaller TVs around the whole area. They also have a scrolling board that will show upcoming game times/current scores. The ambiance is good for what it is. It was nice for us, but we were there before any live music and it wasn't super busy so we had a good experience without having to deal with a lot of background noise. Our service was very attentive and nice. The menu is pretty small. A lot of options that previous reviews spoke of are no longer on the menu. They pretty much offer limited appetizers, burgers, and some entrees. I would definitely check the menu before deciding to eat here to make sure there is enough interest across your group. Three of us ordered the Double Smash Burger and my girlfriend went with the caesar salad. The smash burger was good. Pretty much a basic burger, two patties and your typical fixings. It was a huge burger, so I cut mine in half. The burger came with fries as well. The meal with good just average. Nothing really special or over the top about it. I'd eat it again if I was hungry or wanting to watch a game, but not sure that I'd go out of my way to eat it again. My girlfriend said the caesar salad was good as well. The portion was huge, but it had a little too much dressing for her liking. Maybe something they should put on the side and let you put the amount you want. Overall I'd say this is a good option if you're planning on spending a lot of time gaming, betting on horse races, or watching a game at Turfway. If not, I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again unless they offered more options on their menu, had rotating specials, or something that just gave it more appeal to come back. The food wasn't bad at all it just wasn't impressive.

I had no idea that this place was so close to my Father in law's home…read more The only reason I know about Bobby Mackey's is Ghost Adventure's, so yea, I'm part of THAT crowd. My original thought was just to stop and grab a few pictures of the outside. I didn't REALLY need to go inside. (YES, YES I DID). I got there about an hour before the first tour started, so the Husbeast and I enjoyed a little country Karaoke as I walked around and took photos. It's exactly what a Honky Tonk looks like (And smells like: Liquor, Beer, Sweat and Cigarette smoke). There were a couple of regulars playing pool and a few others singing, The guys and gals line dancing to 'Footloose' made me grin. Mark was our tour guide and he is a Gem. He has the history of the place down to a good patter. It's sad about the recent-ish mudslide on the other side of the hill. The basement is a "special" place. Even if you don't believe in ghosts or demonic things, please surround yourself with white light and protection. I'm not saying it's related but I did end up with a huge bruise on my stomach and 2 days after I got home to FLA I ended up in the ER with Blood pressure Issues. Just sayin. It's not a place to fool around with. There've been too many folks who have done TOO MANY stupid things there without knowing what they're engaging with. My own personal experiences were: I saw a female shape to the right, when you're facing looking into the well room, it had a very victorian style silouhette. I felt a cold spot as we entered into the room of faces. There was something touching me in the jail cell, I felt, rather than heard voices in there. In the spot between the stairway to heaven, and the pit to hell, I felt a pain in my stomach. I ended up with a large bruise on my belly. May not be connected, but who knows. The husbeast, who's an absolute null, and skeptic, felt slightly dizzy in the jail cell, and saw "something" off the the left, near the mechanical bull in the basement. Would I come back? Yes. Probably even to drink and dance. It was a cool place.

So, this place is exactly as you'd expect it - so just know what you're heading into. It has…read morecountry line dancing, pool tables, a mechanical bull and a variety of other games and attractions to keep you occupied. The staff was pretty friendly, and the drinks are cheap. And for anyone that's been living under a rock, it's all supposed to house an actually portal to Hell. Apparently this is located in the basement, off limits to customers. There are supposed to be other hot spots throughout the building for paranormal activity, including the men's bathroom, but I didn't experience anything out of the ordinary.

The braised Brie was delicious and the portion huge for an appetizer. My wife and I had a ribeye steak and it was perfectly cooked and flavor. The Brussels sprouts were heavenly. My eldest, who is a a vegetarian, really enjoyed her bean burger. My other daughter had meatloaf, showing the versatility of the menu. A seafood chowder, lamb chops, and fancy burgers were also available. The place was clean and had an air up upscale dining. Silverware brought in proper order. We did tell the reservation desk we had not been served and were leaving. We saw our waitress briefly attending to others but did not come to our table. This is definitely downhill from previous visits. We walked down the street and had Chinese food.

I sat at the bar and ordered the cod on marble rye with coleslaw. It was delicious. The cod fillet was generous and nicely breaded. It was crunchy and cooked to perfection. The coleslaw was obviously prepared in house. It was also great. I jokingly asked the lady tending bar if she was Jim or Jack, and she replied that Jim was her last name. I'm not sure if she was joking, but it made me laugh. She was very busy but attentive. I left feeling a lot better than when I went in. I really like this place, and would go back in a minute if I didn't live in Houston.
