This was a takeout order and was ready when I arrived. The service has always been excellent and friendly. My order consisted of Hibachi chicken and Hibachi chicken and shrimp. Both dishes had plenty of fresh mushrooms, onions, carrots,zucchini and brown rice to accompany the epic amounts of tender chicken bites and flavorful shrimp. Food was fine, service needs to be improved! We were in the area to visit family at the hospital...My husband went in a ordered plates and he's allergic to shrimp so he definitely didn't order his plate to have shrimp, only reason I'm writing this review (because mistakes happen and it's no big deal that the order was made incorrectly) is when my husband came right back after realizing his plate had shrimp the women working behind the counter said its "Not my problem or fault" and my husband had to insist the plate be remade without shrimp (after the women wanted to go back and forth with my husband, mind you my husband was not upset or having an attitude, not sure why the lady working there would have an attitude either). Desperately needed a place with goooood teriyaki chicken. This place is pretty close to what I need. It's $8.01 for teriyaki chicken and a soft drink. I do wish there was more chicken and sweet carrots. You can double the meat, but I'm kind of iffy on spending extra money to see the double meat if the amount is already small to begin with. A definite pro is the fact that they give you a whole bottle of shrimp sauce (white sauce) if you eat at the restaurant. The service is quick and the people are friendly. Called in a Togo order and when I got there was told they don't take apple/google pay (and then said THEY NEVER HAVE) which I know is a lie because I have done it before. And they did have a sign on the door for a while saying Was broken. But that is not there now. The girl at the counter had THE WORST ATTITUDE. I had to go home to get my card because I didn't have one so she needed up calling me and saying "so are u coming to get this food or not?" And I explained to her I had to go All the way home and get my card and I was on the way back. When I walked in and checked my order it was wrong and she made the comment to me that if I had been there before I should have known how the food came. I WAS LIVID. The only thing that saved me from cursing her out was the fact that my son was with me. Because her attitude was TOTALLY UNCALLED FOR. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. First I will caveat this by saying I normally hate these types of places, but I went in based on the reviews on Yelp. The 2 stars are given for the great service and really friendly staff. As far as the food goes, it has practically no similarity to hibachi or anything Asian. The hibachi chicken is (likely) parboiled before it is cooked on the flattop grill. If not, then the cooking surface was too crowded and it boiled rather than being sautéed. I have no complaints about the broccoli, also probably parboiled first but that doesn't make for a strange texture. Parboiling works for some meats that are going to be thrown into substantial sauces/gravies but not for chicken that is going to be eaten relatively plain. If you're one of those people that masks the flavor of all of your food by coating it in white sauce you may not notice this issue. Then again, you can dump that on any dish and it's gonna taste about the same. The rice could have been any generic white rice fried with a tiny bit of soy sauce and butter/oil, no sesame seeds or real browning... Wasn't bad, just plain rice. Again, if you soak it in white sauce then you probably won't care. The ginger sauce was fine, not fresh tasting but it had some ginger flavor to it. Lastly, the decor had no Asian theme at all. Not that it matters for a fast food place like this, but the two pictures on the wall made no real sense at all... They looked like Colorado mountain scenes. read more

What a pleasant surprise this place was! Wanted Japanese for dinner but no time for the steakhouses. Saw the good reviews on this place and decided to try it. Wow. I got Hibachi steak and shrimp, my wife went steak and chicken. The meat quality was very good, much better than any other place like this I've tried. My steak was good quality cut and the shrimp was tasty. The vegetables were also fresh and well-prepared. The zucchini and sweet carrots deserve especially note. This is the best "fast food" Japanese I've had. Not quite Kanki/fancy steakhouse quality - but darn close! Definitely will be coming back. read more

My wife and I get Tokyo quite frequently. The portions and service are always great. However, I think they changed hands not long ago and the quality of the ingredients and meat went down. This hair could not have been mine because i have an Afro with long kinky/strands. I was disgusted and went to wash my hands and leave the store. One of the better Japanese carry-out restaurants in the Triangle. They have excellent daily lunch specials, and the staff are extremely friendly. The chicken and steak always taste great, and are well seasoned. Their vegetables are fresh, and their sweet carrots are amazing! Even the sweet tea is one point. They also give you more than enough white sauce in one cup to use for your meal, so you don't have to use three or four like at other restaurants. There is indoor seating as well, and the staff are great to talk to. Some people may not give this place a shot because of its location (inside of an old shopping center) but it's one of the best places to get food in Hillsborough. read more

I order because it close to my job .One thing for sure is they are super stingy on rice and meet , but will load your plate with broccoli,zucchini, and carrots . Oh yeah and they give you no rice . Upon walking in, I was greeted from behind the counter before I was within 25 feet of the counter. I ordered the daily special and answered a few particulars about what veggies I wanted. I paid and was asked how I was as if she really wanted to know! While signing my slip, she tole me about her issues studying for a test. Went there on a Saturday night, and it was fairly quiet. My first impression was that it was surprisingly clean--especially compared to most hole-in-the-wall Asian places I've been. Closer inspection showed that the floor and tables were pretty dirty, but the walls were freshly painted, the place was well-lit, and there was no build up of grease on the walls or ceiling. Got the teriyaki chicken. I actually thought it was good, though it came with really puzzling sweet carrots. As my partner said, it tasted like Japanese cooked by white southerners. Very tasty. However, the meat portions are incredibly disappointing...and they aren't shy about the cost. We ordered SEVEN meals ($55). One of them, for example, was Hibachi chicken with no rice, extra veggies. They charged me $1 extra for a few pieces of extra veggies and my meat portion consisted of like 7 small pieces of chicken. The other orders had similar meat portions. Incredibly disappointing. Only gave 2 stars because it was tasty. Unfortunately, they can get away with this because they are the only takeout Japanese restaurant in the area.
