For takeout, the sushi was amazing - we got the California and Shrimp Tempura rolls. Both tasted super fresh and yummy! The dumpling soup and edamame were delicious as well. The prices are awesome too - you get good portions and food for such an affordable price. Only bad part about the experience was the seafood udon as it tasted old and left an expired aftertaste. Who knew there would be such great Asian food in South Carolina. Tokyo Cafe is tucked in between a Publix supermarket and nail salon. Not the most promising prospect. Once you enter, you're greeted to a clean, traditional, Asian influenced decor. The Fallen Angel roll was unique and delectable- a mix of seaweed salad, crab, and scallops. Hubby had the veggie AAC (being able to make a selection from several vegetarian roll options!). The pad Thai wasn't crazy peanut-ty with a generous portion. It wasn't the best I've ever had but I appreciated the subtle spin. The udon noodles were quite lovely- soft with a nice brown sauce. Good service and fresh pineapple capped a surprisingly delicious meal. read more

Good food and decent prices! I tried the green salad, sashimi appetizer, and Godzilla roll. The presentation of all three were fantastic. The green salad was my favorite. The roll left a bit to be desired, it wasn't spicy at all (maybe this is the norm but it said "spicy tuna" on the menu). Overall, I liked it, I would go again, but I certainly wasn't blown away by anything I tasted. Cost was $2.50 for the salad, $9 for the sashimi app, and $12 for the Godzilla roll (and $3 for the Yuengling beer). read more

Trusting local reviews of sushi restaurants is often times a crap shoot. We tried Tokyo Cafe based off the amount of reviews and the stars. Hands down will not be eating here again. Edamame for an appetizer that was clearly microwaved and over salted. Miso soup was tepid water. My wife ordered the Pad Thai and asked for the spice level to be between medium and extra spicy. Her meal was the blandest Pad Thai we've ever had. I ordered the "Angry Bird" spicy tuna roll and the sashimi platter. Spicy tuna was mashed tune vice actual tuna and the sashimi had a fishy taste vice a fresh taste. I also ordered the eel sushi and king crab sushi. Eel was okay and the "king crab" was all but king and probably snow crab. The king crab sushi was market price and for two pieces cost $16. Everything was bland too include the soy sauce. We have lived all around the world and had sushi for the three years we lived in Japan and this can make my reviews biased. However, this is an honest review and we were hoping to find a good sushi place that we could go regularly since we are moving to the area. This isn't it. read more

The artistic abilities of the chefs at this place are second to none. Seems like every time I go there the chefs come up with a different carving vegetables to keep things interesting. As pretty as the plates are the taste is equally as good. Always like to start off with some spicy green lip mussels and then my two favorites rolls are Sexy Girl and the Coconut Shrimp. Their hibachi food is great as well if you don't care for all the flash and flair and just want good food cooked in a kitchen out of sight and not sitting amongst total strangers. That is my preference. Usually once a month have coupons for this place sent to the house in mailers so keep an eye out. Averages about 15% off ($5 off $30 or $10 off $60). This is probably my favorite sushi spot in SC, very casual atmosphere with really good food. The shrimp and cucumber roll was delicious and the Boston roll was exquisite. The service was great and the presentation of the food was on point. They even carved a prawn out of a carrot to add to the decor on the plate. They have a bar so you can have an adult beverage with your meal. I opted for the hot saki. Plus, there are a few tv's available to watch the game or any other event that may be on while your out an about. I've tried a handful of sushi places in Greenville and elsewhere - Tokyo Cafe has my attention. It should have yours too... Service is quick and reasonable for the space they have. It's usually pretty busy as well so it's impressive to see two wait staff getting the job done. Food was excellent as well. Not only in taste, but presentation is superb. Service and presentation goes a LONG way, and Tokyo Cafe tops every other sushi joint in Greenville. You will be wowed when you dine here. The feel of the place is nice too. It's small enough to feel homely and you're not out of place when eating here. Some sushi bars are just uncomfortable and pretentious. My first time at Tokyo Cafe, I felt like I had been there before. It's just perfect. read more

As many of you know by now, I have been on a Chinese food kick recently. Since my favorite nearby place closed, I've had to find new places. I found a nice place over on Woodruff but the commute is very inconvenient; even taking backroads. So yesterday, since I had errands to run in the vicinity I checked out their website and ordered online. I had the hibachi chicken with a selection of vegetables. It was a lunch combo, but I have to say; even by lunch combo standards it was meager. There were maybe a handful of chicken pieces, like, 3 broccoli and a few zucchini's and carrots mixed in. I could have seen this portion being acceptable for around $4 less, even considering the included soup. Which brings me to my next point of contention. They were gracious to sub the usual mushroom soup (yuck!) for miso soup but when I opened up the cup I was met with a very unpleasant fishy smell, and taste also. Probably the seaweed, but it was hardly appetizing being taken back to the days of living by the beach and smelling that awful odor early every morning. Their teriyaki sauce was superb. I will give them that. Admittedly, I drank every last drop out to the bowl. Was it worth the cost of the meal, though? Not really. I understand this is more of a Japanese-oriented eatery, so I should not have expected much by way of Chinese cuisine. I don't eat sushi, but from the photos I saw on their Yelp page it looks very well-crafted and yummy for those of you who do like it. I won't be back, but wish them all the best. Maybe our favorite spot that we've discovered over off Pelham. Stopped in and tried the chicken penang and it was awesome. Had two basic rolls, shrimp roll and spicy crab roll... They were great. We shared a boat and had a Fallen Angel roll after first having a steamed shumai app. The app was good but not special. The boat contents were all fresh and flavorful. The Fallen Angel roll was outstanding. Our friends who aren't sushiers, had a tempura shrimp roll and chicken fried rice. They reported that the fried rice didn't have a fried rice texture and was lacking in flavor. The tempura shrimp roll was fine. Tried the Red Curry chicken and Chicken Fried rice. Good quantity and enjoyed the taste. Also tried a salmon roll - I am not much of a sushi fan, so wasnt very happy with that dish.
