Ambiance is my favorite aspect of Toki. The lighting, seating, ventilation is all good :) Portion sizes and price also fantastic. And overall quality is solid. It's clear that at the price point you have to give something up. The fish is good _for the price_, but yeah if you're expecting Sushi Jin or Katsu level fish, it's just not happening. I still think the food is very worth it, just set your expectations accordingly for their fish. E.g. the Toro was barely Toro at all imo, and not worth getting. I liked the fatty Salmon the best as far as the fish went. Ikura was good. Service: they are very busy, so you have to advocate for yourself a little. Staffing is expensive, so front of house seems minimally staffed, but that's not unique to them. The staff we interacted with are very nice and responsive! We had a small issue with an order (disliked ingredient that wasn't listed on the menu) and they immediately switched it out for us, no questions asked. read more

We were looking for a fairly close sushi takeout place and decided to check it out. - 49er roll: salmon, tuna, hamachi - generous on the fish - Super dragon roll: the side shell crab was nice, but the imitation crab had way too much mayo - California roll with real snow crab: the real snow crab upgrade option was nice, but it was too much mayo for me - Jalapeño special: with your choice of sashimi on top (we did hamachi). The hamachi had some scales, and there was a big dollop of mayo on the jalapeño, which was a bit excessive - To go box: we chose saba - inexpensive but a small portion - Grilled sanma: a good add on option Overall, portions were generous but maybe a bit much because I actually prefer thinner slices of sushi. Also, there was too much mayo for me, but I think I'm just extra sensitive about the mayo. I appreciate the effort and wanted to support a new local place. read more

Absolutely incredible sushi, and a great value! The fish is so fresh and the servings were generous. Even the humble iceberg salad was delicious. No joke! We dug into the food before I could snap a pic. You can see that my hubby couldn't wait before grabbing another piece of sushi. The place is very clean, modern, and airy, and the service was superb. Came here for dinner with a friend. I had the edamame and a 49er roll (I love sushi rolls with lemon, and this one didn't disappoint.) My friend had salmon sashimi, which was also very good. 1 star because clean, 1 star because, well, nothing was that awful. But nothing tasted especially good, and the ikura and tobago were way below par. The tempura did not fit the definition of an "airy batter" and was not tasty. The salmon and the inari were okay. I'm not even sure the sushi rice was as tasty as uusual. Only thing I really liked was the miso soup and that was because the restaurant was cold and no hot tea was available..."it's broken". My husband, who's more into miso, said the soup lacked miso. We arrived at 8:35 when the stated Sunday closing time was 9:00. They had already piled chairs on tables while other diners were eating, a big no-no in my book. They warned us the kitchen closed at 9:00 but by 8:45 they were pressuring us to order right away because the kitchen was closing. The service was otherwise courteous and they were generous with the serving of lemon I asked for. Not planning to go back. Oh, one good thing about this place was that most items were cheap. $5.99 for the average 2 pieces of nigiri, for example. read more

Try this new sushi place and was pleasantly surprised. The staff was very welcoming. I did an order to go. The new interior is beautiful and very clean. The menu is expensive and they have some really great pricing as well as some special lunch bento boxes that are a good deal and a points program where you can get rewards on future meals. Tried this newly opened Japanese restaurant. Lunch menu is still available on Saturday. We ordered a 2 item combination (a 5-piece sashimi and a rainbow roll) and a tonkatsu bento. Everything is perfect. Just a few small things need to be improved: tonkatsu sauce was missing, daikon oroshi was missing with tempura tsuyou. Will definitely come back. read more

this is a hidden gem. the outside looks unassuming but both the quality and quantity is value town! service is very warm and welcoming, the interior has a great ambience, and the food was really good. I ordered takeout from Toki Sushi, which included several pieces of nigiri sushi, some sashimi, and shrimp tempura. The nigiri sushi was great. They do slice the sashimi part (in both nigiri and sashimi) thickly, but they still tasted great. I was disappointed by the shrimp tempura, though. The fried part was too thick, mushy, and floury with tiny shrimps inside. But I'd definitely go back for more affordable nigiri sushi. The staff were also super friendly and kind. read more

Okay. I came in with low expectations. Then I looked at the menu. I saw a to-go chicken box for 8.95 and thought "huh must be a tiny portion". Then I looked further and prices seemed more normal for the current times. I ordered a chicken teriyaki entree for 18.95. Comes with rice, salad, and soup. Standard. We also ordered two rolls of sushi. The sushi came out stuffed with fresh assorted sashimi. They did not skimp. Would come back for the sushi alone. Then out came my chicken. As they placed the chicken in front of me my eyes bulged. Was I dreaming? I kid you not, I saw a heaping mound of chicken teriyaki that probably equaled five chicken thighs. Over two pounds. For 18.95. The chicken had a nice char and good flavor. I n s a n e. Value town. But the taste was great and was fresh. I'm coming back to try their 8.95 to go box. I have three more meals I'm taking back home tonight. Guess I don't have to worry about tomorrow's lunch and dinner! Services was prompt and polite. Ambience nice as well. read more

Not only that I was also seated and served very quickly, adding into that the ambiance was nice and mellow. The restaurant is conveniently located near the Safeway shopping plaza, making it an easy stop for a casual meal. We visited on a Saturday evening with family and appreciated the pleasant decor and overall ambiance. We ordered a variety of dishes, including appetizers, combo set, sushi rolls, and a sashimi omakase. Overall, the sushi and sashimi were acceptable, but not particularly memorable. The toro, in particular, had some tough portions and lacked the expected melt-in-your-mouth texture. The teriyaki dishes, both beef and chicken, were underwhelming and lacked flavor. Some of the grilled appetizers also seemed poorly prepared, with the fish not tasting as clean or fresh as expected. Service could be improved as well--our waiter accidentally spilled soup and did not offer a replacement, which was disappointing. One of the best sushi restaurants I've been to in the Bay Area (Amakara is my favorite) The Mango roll and the Caterpillar roll with homemade Unagi sauce were the best I've had.
