I'm not sure what happened to Tofu's... I've had really pleasant experiences in the past when I came into the shop or lined up for a new release. Recently, it seemed like the staff was very disgruntled and unfriendly, almost as if they were bothered by customers coming to patronize the store. There's a definite lack of communication and customer service now. I saw several people, even those with young looking kids, be on the receiving end of what looked like annoyance from the workers. Maybe it was just a bad day, but it felt kinda ick. I'm not sure I want to support a store that treats people like that. read more

The staff here is always super friendly and helpful. They usually have a lot of new cards and slabs to look at. Their singles are very well organized making it easy to sort through cards. Absolutely terrible customer service. Walking into Tofu's Trading feels like you're invisible. No one greets you or asks if you need help. I don't this is hard to do considering it's a small store and you're in a customer service field. There's also no organization in the store whatsoever. There's no clear system causing cutomers to be scattered everywhere and employees don't guide you on where to go or what to do. Even standing right in front of the register doesn't get you any help. My experience today solidifed that I'll never come back. I came in specifically for a buyback promo. I walked up, asked if I could participate, and showed them the ONE card I brought (GOLD CHARIZARD, very hard to miss). I was told to join a waitlist, which I understood due to the traffic, but there was zero explanation or direction on how long the wait would be, where to wait, etc. After putting my name down, I waited a few minutes and overheard staff telling another customer the wait time was an hour and a half. I went back up to clarify because I might have misheard. That's when they suddenly said, "Oh, you only have one card, right? I can just just look at it." At that point, three girls at the table looked at each other, said nothing to me, and seemed completely uninterested. It was awkward and unprofessional. They ended up already having the card in hand and passed on it, but the whole situation made no sense. Why not communicate that with me in the beginning when you guys obviously saw the card I flashed? What if I hadn't asked for the time and waited the whole hour just to be told something that you already knew from the get go? Such a frustrating experience and a waste of time. read more

My favorite LGS in the Bay Area! I first discovered Tofu's Trading when they were still located in downtown SJ and it was a smaller shop compared to what it is now. They have a large selection of TCG products and all of the staff there are wonderful and very helpful if you're looking for something in particular! They also have great deals and offer products at MSRP on release day for Pokémon sets! I highly recommend checking them out for your Pokemon rips and collectibles. They also hosts trade night once a month in front of their store and offer buyback deals! If you're looking to buy, sell, trade your singles then it's a nice way to come across new cards during these events. read more

I went here last night hoping to get my hands on Mega Evolution. It has been so hard to find product at MSRP or even products at any store. They had a limit of 6 packs for $4.49 each!! I was super happy about this. Finally getting packs without paying 2-3x more. They had a lot of other products as well. Also, if you're looking or singles, they have them there too! This store is great! They always have a solid inventory with fair prices, and the staff is super friendly. Shopping here is quick and easy--definitely an in-and-out experience. The only downside is that parking can be a bit of a hassle, but on the bright side, the area has plenty of food spots and Boba shops to enjoy while you're there. Highly recommend checking it out! Ive done business with them a couple times and everytime was flawless BUT Today was less fruitful unfortunately. I didnt get the gentlemans name with the glasses as it was my first time seeing or speaking to him but he's very slick lol (respectfully but shady). He told me he'd given me 70-80% on my Minty 151 Blastoise SIR & 151 Charmander IR when in reality he gave me 67% for these HIGH value cards that will eventually increase again in value. Weirdly, I gave them a free card and then he said he would throw it in to give me more money back on my entire sale but he just bumped my 151 cards up to 70% which means the card I gave them still remained free and yet he was sly enough to make me believe I was actually getting a better deal. I blame myself for not double checking the math on my end as I thought I could trust the word of a fellow seller but that wasnt the case. I shouldve kept those cards because in reality 70% for those specific Mint 151 cards is robbery especially since the math on one of the cards was intentionally placed lower than actually market value. read more

Welp! i have been getting ripped off all along! How I did not know about this store before, it hurts my soul! This is my new spot for Pokemon for my kids and let's not lie, myself now. Such decent pricing compared to what I have been buying at card stores and ACE Hardware in Saratoga. I had no idea how much they were marking up prices. It's sad, really. The owner and staff at TOFU greeted me immediately. My eyes lit up as I looked at the wall and cases of Pokemon. Stopped by here today on 2/16/25 to check what inventory they had. Unfortunately all English prismatic evolutions and 151 were sold out including the Japanese 151 booster boxes and you cannot place a preorder for new sets. I ended up purchasing 2 boxes of shiny treasures and 2 boxes of terastal festival. I didn't get many hits in shiny treasures unfortunately, but my first terastal box I did hit the SIR sylveon. Great shop that sells for MSRP for release weekends. Now... if you're away from release weekends and looking for older/hard to find it's generally +-10% from market price so I wouldn't even bother. All the shops I've been around to are doing this so I don't see a reason to mark them down for it even though I dislike the practice. Otherwise, great little collection of small figurines/gachas/blind boxes if you're interested in non-tcg stuff. In store- workers are generally welcoming and nice, definitely not pushy and always open to helping. A lot of their streamers are chill and also helpful to the new people. They do have a discord as well where I got some help for some issues w/ the streaming purchases so, shout to Amy(and Ann) about that. Vietnam Town is generally getting more difficult for parking as more and more good eats/boba/coffee comes in so don't expect an easy time on weekends. read more

Geo helped my little cousin and I pick some cards out (they have EX/AR binders that have $1-3 cards!). This fueled our card collecting journey. I later met one of the owners, Amy, and she's so kind! Terrible in store service. They tended more to an old man who was clearly trying to buy raw cards to grade at a profit for himself than my 5 year old daughter who is just getting into the tcg. We watch reels together on social media of the pokemon community being so good to kids only for this store to be the exact opposite. We tried to trade at their 90% advertised rate on their ig to basically get laughed at and told we'd get 60% at best. Terrible experience and we still bought over $100 in product. read more

I've been going to Tofus for years and they've continued to get better with time. This is a LCS that cares about their customers and player base and it shows with how many new and returning customers they have! The prices are fair, the customer service is great and they have a wide selection of sealed product and single cards - they primarily focus on Pokemon but they also carry One Piece, Gundam, some MTG, etc. I've played in numerous events here and the prizing is always very good and the judging is fair. I can't speak highly enough about Geo, he's truly a gem in the Pokemon community and it's always a pleasure to see him when I drop by the store. The owners, Amy and Thanh, are always looking out for the community by providing new product for MSRP at the cost of ripping the seal on product. A lot of people may not agree with this but it's a great way to combat scalping, which is a huge issue at the moment and ensures the community all gets something to rip. If you're looking for a LCS, this is one of the best in the Bay Area. Drop in, you won't be disappointed! read more

One of the best card shops I've been to - great variety of stock in Pokemon, One Piece, and others, including Japanese sealed products. I even found some anime Weiß Schwarz sealed product. They also have a strong selection of singles, mostly in raw cards, and a small number of slabs. The staff are super nice - they are extremely patient and are willing to re-price based on current market and give extremely fair quotes. One of the owners also saved me from being towed as I originally expected to spend around 15 minutes but ended up staying for an hour (watch where you park in the lot - the tow trucks get there super-fast). I would give the review a 1 star but the owner Thien (I think that's his name) was very friendly and helpful but Amy (other owner?) was so rude. After a failed negotiation I still said thanks for your time & have a good day but she just stared back at me without saying anything & an angry look. Seconds later was friendly with her coworkers. They have a really good inventory of Pokemon ETBs, Booster boxes, Booster Bundles + various English/Japanese releases too. Already bought some Terastal Festival, Japanese 151, electric breaker and got some decent pulls! They also sell sleeves if you need any as well and have a wide selection of individual raw pokemon cards. (priced a bit more than TCGplayer) - but I totally get it though, you're spending a bit more to buy packs immediately instead of waiting a bit longer online. I have been to many card stores in the area. I'm a new collector and didn't realize how chaotic these stores can be. Boxes are all over with nothing labelled. I'd have to either wait for the staff to finish their long discussion on some random topic with a customer not even purchasing anything to ask, or waste time searching around the mess to not find what I was looking for anyways. This is why I've just walked out of all of them. I was feeling extremely irritated until I came to Tofu's. The products are well organized and easy to see prices. What a relief! They have a great selection and the service is always friendly. I've been here twice now to buy and I will only be going here from now on.
