I've been to Tofu House plenty of times at the Mira Mesa location before it closed, so I was glad to see another location in Convoy. I came here for dinner with a group of friends, and overall, we had a great experience. Parking can be hit or miss since there are so many restaurants in the area. We had about a 10-20 minute wait for a table, but once we were seated, we were given menus and a variety of banchan side dishes. For appetizer, we ordered the Japchae. It was okay as a starter, but it wasn't my favorite. For our main dishes, we ordered the Galbi & Chef's Special Combo, Hot Stone Bulgogi, Hot Stone Meat Party, and Hot Stone Chef's Special. The Hot Stone Crispy Rice was definitely the highlight of the meal! Once mine came out, everyone at the table started copying me and ordering their own versions haha. I had the Hot Stone Bulgogi with brown rice (purple rice), and it arrived steaming hot with two sauces: gochujang and a sweet sauce. They also provide a basket of eggs, which you can crack into your hot stone bowl and let cook. The Galbi was also tasty and came with a bowl of rice. The galbi by itself can be a little greasy, so having it with rice worked perfectly. I also appreciated that they offer both white rice and brown rice (purple rice). Service was fast, the staff was kind, and our water glasses were constantly being refilled. Since the hot stone dishes come out piping hot, we took our time eating, chatting, and enjoying the meal together. It can get pretty noisy depending on the time of day, but it was still easy enough to have a conversation. Overall, a fun spot for a group dinner or just dining with friends, family, or a casual date. I definitely recommend the Hot Stone Crispy Rice. The portion is big enough to share with two people.
Located in a strip mall with tons of other restaurants. We walked in, and I swear the lady audibly sighed when she saw us, haha. Fair enough, I get it. Still, we were seated and given ice-cold water and banchan very quickly. It was nice and cool inside, although pretty smoky from the hot stones. There also weren't many other people there. I ordered the hot stone bulgogi, which came out quickly and was very flavorful. It stayed super hot throughout the meal, and I loved the crispy rice at the bottom. Cracking your own egg into it was also a nice touch. The price was pretty good, but there was honestly very little meat. The flavors were definitely there, though. More meat and slightly more enthusiastic service would really elevate this place. Some good with the bad, but I'd come back in a pinch because the food itself tasted great.
Came here for dinner on a Saturday evening and ordered the bulgogi fried rice, which was a bit disappointing. The presentation was odd being served on a flat plate. Flavor was ok, and better when I added some of their sauce. My husband got the hot stone bulgogi bowl, which I would have ordered if he didn't. He enjoyed it, but was disappointed that the crispy rice at the bottle got burnt by the time he scraped it up. Same with the hot stone tofu bowl someone else in our party ordered. Service was fine and food came out fast. The bill is handwritten and not really itemized. They have a fairly small indoor space, but a reasonable amount of seating. The parking lot is super tight. We ended up finding street parking a short walk away, but street parking nearby wasn't easy to find either.
First time eating here, visited on a Monday around 11 am and was seated right away. Plenty of parking in the plaza but it does share with a few restaurants and I can tell it does get busy during peak hours. Server was friendly and attentive. Husband got the hot stone bulgogi and I got the galbi and white rice. Both so good! The hot stone made the rice and veggies crispy, the galbi was so tender I could use the chopstick to split it. Very flavorful and fair price. Unlimited side dishes as well I believe. Would come back again!

Ambiance is simple and relax with lots of tables to sit. It is usually packed, but we came on a Thursday at noon and we were seated super fast. We ordered the Hot Stone Plate Seafood, Bul GO Gi and a Chef's Special. Each plate was delicious, super tasty and you get an egg to be cooked, one egg per plate. I put a 4 star only because we were a group of four and needed split checks and that is something that they don't prefer to do. Maximum 2 checks per table. Great comfort food!

Ordered a medium and it wasn't too spicy or too bland for me. I like the egg to crack into my tofu soup too. Parking lot is tight and there is never enough spots for all the restaurants in the plaza. We parked down the side street instead.
Tofu House, We ordered galbi, japchae, the chef's special hot stone dish, and the chef's special boiled tofu. The food was really delicious and served very quickly. Everything was always hot, which I really like, especially since I prefer hot food and soup, this is a big plus for me. The staff were good, and the restaurant is spacious and clean. Parking is a bit difficult, which honestly makes me hesitate to come back sometimes because it's hard to find a spot. Food: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 3/5
The absolute BEST soup on a cold day (and any other, honestly). We always get the vegetarian boiled tofu soup and burn our mouths every time because we can't wait for it to cool down. It's super flavorful and full of mushrooms, cabbage, and tofu. The bonchon is also delicious. I like to add the fish cakes and cabbage kimchi to the soup. The cucumbers and radish are my favorites. Service is always SUPER fast and friendly, but not overly so. This is a top of the list spot for us for delicious, hot, soup.
Oh WHERE HAVE THE LINES GONE, I used to love this place, but like so many older food establishments, they sat on their laurels and didn't innovate and got lazy with their success and one day the customers where gone, losing them to new up and coming restaurants that catered to the customers. So their menu changed a while ago, now, all of the combos include this chef's special (seafood based proteins), very sad If you are allergic to seafood. If you decide to change it for another soup? Which, by the way, is the same price or less then the chef's special. You get the joy of paying 2 dollars more for your soup, kind of ghetto, it irritates me. But thats okay, why, you ask? Because their are so many more options, where the food is just as good or better and they actually care about their customers being happy and satisfied. Go check out other tofu soup places. Compare the food quality, service level and remember you have a lot of options. Flex your choices peeps.
This is probably the best jjigae I've tried in San Diego!! I recently went with friends on a weekday. There was no wait; we were immediately seated. That being said, we did come a little early for dinner, and the place got much more crowded later on. The menu here is fairly simple and straightforward. I only tried the kimchi & pork jjigae, but my friends also got the chicken jjigae, chef's special jjigae, and seafood fried rice. Our food came out quickly and extremely hot! Like literally, the pot was bubbling furiously with the deep red broth! It was perfect to crack an egg into. The pork soaked up the broth nicely, and the kimchi added a nice tang. This is the kind of dish that warms you from the inside out. I also got a side of purple rice, which was delicious. I love it when they offer alternatives to the regular white rice. I always like tasting the banchan offered. Here, my favorites were the cucumber kimchi or fishcake strips. They even refilled the little dishes once we finished. Definitely will be coming back to Tofu House! I'm always craving soups and jjigae, so I have no doubt that I will return soon. Next time, I want to try the bibimbap...! Other things to note: - Parking kinda sucks, as per usual with Convoy. You can find free parking around the back and walk in. - There are multiple places in Convoy with "Tofu House" in the name, so don't make my mistake and make sure you're going to the right one! - It's a pretty casual place/vibe!
Kinda sad this place used to be awesome the tofu soup was watery no flavor really. Service was not great the two workers today seem very unhappy. The placed smelt bad and smokey especially after the rice bowls came out l think there isn't proper ventilation. My friend with a new born had to leave early due to burnt smell. The sides were not great too fish cakes dry now. The bulgogi bowl tasted burnt and biter I used to love these they don't much veggies in it. Go to a different place it's well below expectations especially for the price.
Did they change ownership again? This place is like a rollercoaster ride of flavor. When it first opened, it tasted great. The food was good quality and tasted good. They changed ownership and the everything went down hill. After a few years it either hired a new chef or changed ownership again. They food was decent at a slightly higher price. Now either they lost that mediocre chef or they changed ownership again. They is worse than the first ownership change. The recipes are closer to Chinese food than Korean. The quality is out the window. The prices are higher. The quantity is less. I'm not sure if the last part is a pro or a con. Would you want more or less bad food for what you pay for? The tofu soups were bland. The beef ribs were paper thin. The japchae was gooey and over cooked. This place needs to be bought out again so we can get back to a the good part of this rollercoaster ride.

I ordered the hot stone meat party - which comes with rib eye, short ribs and spicy chicken. It was good, you can add the gochujang sauce for some spice. My husband ordered the bulgogi tofu - tasty as usual. Server was attentive but not overwhelming. Nice, casual restaurant to come in for a quick bite.
The concept itself is really nice, and the presentation was amazing. The entrée arrived sizzling and smoking, which looked pretty cool, but the dish ultimately left me wanting more. I think it was lacking in meat, although that may have been partly due to the relatively small size of the stone bowl. I hate to say it but I was still hungry. Keep in mind that the dish stays extremely hot, so it will take some time until you can comfortably enjoy it. In the meantime, grab a Sapporo and enjoy the wait! Overall, it's a great spot to meet up, have a drink, and enjoy a good conversation. Just be prepared with the conversation to last while you wait on the stone bowl to cool down! read more

one of my comfort food favorites. The vibe is always warm and casual, and the food comes out steaming hot and full of flavor. My absolute fave is the bulgogi fried rice -- it's savory, a little sweet, perfectly seasoned, and honestly hits every time. The portion size is great and it always leaves you feeling satisfied. I do miss the Mira Mesa location, it had so many memories attached to it, but I'm really happy to know the Convoy spot is still going strong. Same comforting flavors, same reliable quality, and still one of the best places when you're craving something cozy and filling. read more
Been coming here for over a decade and I always get the bulgogi hot stone rice. It hits every time! It comes out sizzling hot and stays hot due to the stone pot. It comes loaded with rice, bulgogi and veggies and I always have some leftovers. Service is pretty quick and friendly and there's a good amount of tables. They always have kpop blasting which I enjoy lol. read more
The food comes out hot, and the servers are quick to refill your side dishes. We were seated pretty quickly. I ordered my favorite, the galbi, with a delicious charred flavor, along with japchae and dumpling tofu soup. Everything was so satisfying. It can be difficult to find parking since it's always packed, but it's worth the hassle. read more

Went about 3pm on a Monday and we were seated immediately. Menu is simple and easy to understand, large displays outside and inside. Water in sealed carafe was provided with cups as well as all the usual accouterments upon seating. We ordered the Galbi plate as well as the Bul Go Gi plate as seen in video. We were very pleased. We especially loved the Galbi (short ribs). We got white rice on the side. The fermented veggies etc were delicious as well and service was efficient and attentive. We spent a total of $67 including tip and we were both stuffed. I will be back! read more

I have been going to Tofu House since college .... And that's hellllllla long ago. While there's been a few hits and misses over the decade++, Tofu House has consistently satisfied my k-food craving. Tofu soup on a cold or tiring day? Definitely. Stone bimibap after a stressful work week? For suuuure. This place has been and continues to be a safe space for me when seeking some good ol comfort food. The parking lot is tiny and sometimes a nightmare when trying to find a spot, but nothing a few extra steps can't fix! read more
Food is delicious, but ever since they got rid of the AYCE eggs I'm sad Service is standard, nothing special, but food comes pretty quick which is nice. Cozy and ambiance with a clean restaurant. Overall a good experience, I want the eggs back tho 3.5/5 gimme more eggs read more

The taste of soup was ok but side dish was disappointing especially kimchi . The clams had a strong fishy smell. The server was a bit dry, but I had no complaints about the service. I don't see myself coming back a second time. read more

Note: I may have a higher standard for Asian food, so definitely check out other reviewers too! The first time I went to Tofu House a couple years ago, I was pretty impressed. Sadly, the food has gone downhill since then. The hot stone bulgigi I got today was flavorless unless I drowned it in gochujang and sesame oil. The kimchi was similarly flavorless and disappointing. It wasn't all bad though. The stew was decent. Quantities are generous, but not inexpensive. They have also continued to provide one complimentary egg per person (which is appreciated in this economy). The service was attentive and fast, and the atmosphere was laid back. Overall, it is a fine place for a quick bite with a group of 2-4, 6 max, but don't expect much. 6/10 read more

Come with a hearty appetite. First time dining here. Don't let the name turn you away. They have much more than tofu. Doc and I had the hot stone meat party. I learned the lesson the hard way. While Doc was cracking her raw egg into the sizzling hot pot and furiously mixing the ingredients, I was letting my phone post photos for Yelp. The outcome- my rice, some kalbi and bean sprouts were scorched black. Not to worry, I added some of the shoyu looking sauce and ate the top portion of my bowl. Tasty with even long rice, some corn niblets, bean sprouts, green onions, carrots plus the kalbi and bulgogi. Not sure where or what the spicy chicken was. Service was fast and courteous. The unsweetened cold green tea from a bottle was extra good. read more
Been here for the past decade. Place have not change. Family wants to go here for the nice soup and I will always come here for the hot stone bowl. Food here is always good and the service is always nice. Will come here more often during the winter. We are trying to find new places that can beat tofu house. So far, none have pass my wife's test. Finally had the chance to try out The famous tofu house. Since the weather was cold, we were craving some hot tofu soup to keep us warm. A small cozy place to have a meal with friends and family. The service was pretty fast and attentive. The only thing I would say negative was that the back house staff wasn't subtle in letting us know they were closing. We were seated next to the food window. The kept banging the pots and one of the staff yelled for attention to foh (it was in Korean so I didn't understand.) the restaurant wasn't closing for another 10 minutes but there were still two parties inside the restaurant. Other than that the food was still good. I would recommend chefs special and the meat party. I would say just like anywhere in convoy this is a popular plaza for food. So expect little to no parking and lots of walking. read more
I came to tofu house to eat with my friend. The food was good, but I honestly would not recommend this place if you're looking for a quiet sit down place to chat with your friends. It was very rushed and right when they gave us the food, they also handed us our check. My friend and I only ended up staying in there to eat really fast and leave. read more

Tofu house has been around for a long time. It's not my favorite place for soondobu as that title belongs to Young Dong Tofu in Arcadia, 2 hour drive away. But for San Diego, tofu house on convoy is not bad. The menu isn't big, it's got maybe 4-5 different flavors of tofu. We ordered the seafood special which had everything in it. The meal comes with 4 side dishes. All of them are pretty decent, my favorite being the kimchi. It also comes with your choice of white or brown (purple really) rice which is delicious. The broth of the tofu is light and savory. There were tons of toppings in the soup. They don't skimp. They use large shrimp and everything tasted fresh. So why did I not give it 5 stars? Well, their ventilation is horrible, borderline bad for your health. 2 tablets away from us ordered some sizzling meat and the whole restaurant filled with so much smoke you can't really see through it for a good 10 minutes. I coughed so much I needed to step out. It's a shame because the food really isn't bad. But next time I'm doing takeout. read more

Tried this place for the first time and we tried dishes including the hot stone bowls (3 different kinds) and the jap chae. The portions were smaller than what I had expected and the meat in the hot stone bowls were very little. No high chair available for toddlers. They provided few ban chan upon coming in. Food was overall just ok, not super impressive. read more
