This will be the best haircut you've gotten for $11 dollars in your life! Don't let the price scare you. If you are in the search for a great taper or fade for a haircut then you HAVE to come to Today Barber. I have been coming here for a little over a year now every three weeks and have gotten haircuts from every person and can honestly say every time they cut it, I get at least a few compliments from people saying how clean cut I look. Tammy, Anton, Kenny, and the others all do a fantastic job for listening to what you want and getting your mop of a head cleaned into a nice mane. Sign in is outside the building where you can put your name, number, and preference on barber if you'd like! Each barber has their own methods of getting your hair to how you want, and if you don't know they have posters of what each hair style looks like for those beginners! All in all, Today Barber helps turn that Frankenstein into a Franken-FINE

Worst haircut imaginable, I've never seen let alone had such a horrible haircut. Asked for a mid fade combover and got a hard part almost on top of my head she had me facing away from the mirror the entire cut so i didn't notice until it was too late I also got a bad skin infection called folliculitis from the dirty unkept clippers this cheap haircut has cost me almost 700$ in after care. 100$ to attempt to fix the poor haircut, 2 200$ dermatologist appointment to get the infection fixed blood work and a culture test of the infection. This place should be shut down immediately by the city!!!!!!

I grew up having $12-15 haircuts, and everything about this place reminded me of my childhood. Pleasant Asian barbers working efficiently, no frills, no hipster hype. I want to believe that good barbers can still perform well with $15 plus a good tip. But I was horribly mistaken. I can't speak to the male barbers but the middle-aged female barber gave me one of the worst haircuts in my life. I showed her a picture with medium-short length and she proceeded to lop off 1.5-2 inches without hesitation. She used a razor on the sides of my head, and then used the razor to trim the top.. She used the scissors for maybe 2 minutes. She even had the nerve to ask me at the end if I wanted a shorter cut. In one way I went back to my childhood.. when my mom used to give me uneven haircuts.

Like many others in this area, I've been really hoping to find a barber that was finally opening after the 4+ months of Corona closing. Once the phase of barbers being allowed to open went public, I immediately tried looking for places that were going to open soon. This place reopened right on June 1st, 2020. In my opinion, they're doing a good job of being sanitary and ensuring safety for any customers to get a haircut. There's plastic dividing each haircut station. Every barber/employee is wearing a mask of some sort. They take your temperature before you can enter the building. You as the customer need a mask as well. They have protective wear on their hands. As others have said one of the greatest things about this place is how inexpensive it is compared to other places like Supercuts. It's $11 at a minimum for just a regular haircut, which is what I got. The tradeoff is that it's Cash Only so make sure to have some cash on you before walking in. I've only been here once and I had Anton cut my hair. He was a very polite and chill guy. He was very thankful for me being patient for waiting and for being understanding about bringing a mask inside to get a haircut. We also had nice lighthearted talk as he give me a #3/#2 buzz cut. One thing to note is that during Corona season, you can NOT call in a reservation. You have to drive to the place and sign in your name in person. You can then choose to schedule an appointment later on in the day or just wait for availability. Keep in mind that even when I arrived at 9:30AM-10:00AM on a Monday I still waited roughly 30 minutes since regulars were there. Once people start realizing this place reopened it'll most likely get even busier especially if you go after 5:00PM or on Weekends. Other than that I have nothing but nice things to say about my experience! Will likely come here again.

This one goes to the older lady with the glasses who cut my hair, forgot her name but she is really good. I showed her the picture of the style that I wanted on my phone and she went right to work. She chopped off about 6 inches off the top, i was tired of my long hair. She knows exactly what to do. She is very detailed, she cleans up my hair off me multiple times, not just at the end, before she went back and cut some more with the clipper, I didn't have to watch her doing it since I had my eyes closed because I feel relax, but I could just feel it that she is great with the clipper. She also helps me style my hair as well. Can't believe they only charge $11!! Most places charge TWICE as much!! I would rather support local business than those chain shop like SportsClip and Supercut. So if you ever want a good quality haircut, come here!!! If you forgot your mask, they will sell you one!! I will be back for sure!!!

Update: 6/12/20 Yay they're open! So glad they made it through the lockdown! I went in today to see Ann (who has taken great care of me for years) and she gave me the regular cut I've always been able to rely on (even fixing my self cut mistake, lol). They're all setup to make sure your (and their) Covid concerns are addressed; temp check at arrival, texting your wait time and when your chair is open, hanging partitions between stations, gloves/face sheilds/masks, disposable apron for you. If you're a regular or someone new looking for a quality cut from a small family owned business, please see them at Today Barber. And the price is great too! $12 for a regular cut. I've been to those shops that try to sell an old school vibe and throw you a beer, then charge you twice as much or more. Was in search for a barber ever since I started school here in SoCal. Guess you could say the search had a few bumps. Heard about this place from a buddy of mine, my RA, and a guy from the gym. 3 different sources all recommending the same place so I gave it a try. I am really picky with my barbers and all the ones I trusted are back at home in San Jose. But let me tell you, this place comes close to home. Antom cut my hair and was really quick and precise. He knew what I wanted and what would look best. He's been cutting hair for 4+years so i trusted him. Really easy guy to converse and definitely going to be my "go-to" barber for the next few years. Today Barber is back in town! As of June 1st, 2020 it is open (after COVID-19 stay-at-home order). Current hours are Monday-Saturday from 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM (closed Sundays). Great service. There is now a check-in process where there is someone outside signing people in. You wait in your car and they come get you once your barber is ready. Ensure that you bring a mask. Overall, they have established a very organized system to protect their patrons. No problems whatsoever. read more

I really don't like this place now , I would come here every once in a while to cut my hair since it's literally down the street from where I live but every time I come here i just get the most generic or worst cuts I have ever gotten. I went yesterday I asked for one of the cuts in the picture walls they have and the lady just didn't seem like she knew what she was doing and completely butchered my sideburns and gave me possibly the worst fade , i wouldn't recommend just going with any barbers here you really have to know which one knows the most. But hey atleast it was only 15 dollars , Still a pretty big let down since I was looking forward for a haircut after over a month read more

Stopped in from out of town, showed Philip a picture of what my barber does back home, and he emulated it to the 'T'! Took his time and did a really nice job, especially only for 11 bucks, you can't go wrong and I would highly suggest going here as opposed to going somewhere else for 25 or 30 bucks! Really nice guys too. Very happy with the cut and the attention to detail! Alright, I've calmed down a little bit. Yes, I got a terrible haircut from there today and it is frustrating beyond belief. But I have had dozens of great haircuts there, so just going to make sure I request someone next time and should be fine. I'll update this review after next visit. read more

It's hard to find a really good, cheap barber in orange county. Generally you're stuck with either Great Clips or Supercuts for bad haircuts and a $20 minimum. Today Barber is no a nonsense, old school type of shop. Go in, find a seat, wait for your name. Once it's your turn, sit in the chair and get a good fade for cheap. Wham bam thank ya ma'am. My only recommendation is to not go Saturday morning unless you wanna wait a while. read more

This is the weirdest place to get haircut (or maybe I just got the lady that everyone mentioned in the reviews), today, Monica is the one that gave me the haircut. When she cut my hair, my back was facing the mirror, I don't know why, but she said she needed the mirror to cut my sides, which was a first time for me being cut without being able to actually look what is she doing, so I couldn't really direct her with what kind of cut I wanted. In the end when she cut the top part she turned me around, so I could see it, and exactly what i thought, it wasn't the style I wanted. The only reason I put 2 stars is because I probably will come back and avoid her, so I can see their actual quality. (And also the price $11, regret gave her $2 for haircut that I'm not satisfied with) read more

I have a combover and not sure what Anton heard, but I asked for a 2 on the sides, he decided to give me a 2 on the top as well. Then a month later, I tell him I am trying to grow out my combover and he cuts my top without me asking. Keep in mind, I was trying to grow out my top after his screw up. read more

$11 is an awesome price, but the quality of the cut isn't. Antom is good at fading, but when I tell him to even out my high top, he rushes through it. Most of the time, my hair comes out uneven on the top. They don't do lineups with a straight razor. One time, Antom gave me a "lineup" before he actually cut my hair. That makes no sense. Another time, I asked to be lined up and he said that he already did it when he didn't. Everything seems rushed. You're in and out of the chair in 15 minutes lol You really do get what you pay for. read more

Came in for a taper and line-up since I've been doing the covid cut (2 all over) by myself at home. The barber was pretty good. Wait time was about 5 min, was a bit nervous since the other reviews says the wait is usually long, so I'm glad for that. Total cost was $16 with tip so can't beat the price. I will probably come again. read more

Ever since I got a cut from Antom, I've only been going to him! He's quick and does an amazing job for such a cheap price compared to any other barber shop! He really takes care of you and you'll never be disappointed when he cuts your hair. I highly highly recommend Today Barber! I've been coming here for a year now and I will never get a hair cut anywhere else if I don't have to. Came here for a cheap haircut, pretty much got one too. My hair does look alright, was able to get what I wanted in a sense. A 0 skin fade on the sides and a trim on the top to be styled in a comb-over fashion. But the top part of my head was cut unevenly and the back-top part of my hair is somewhat longer than the front (which is wack if I'm trying to style it in a comb over fashion to begin with) Overall you get what you pay for ($11 to be exact) so not the BEST, but a haircut nonetheless read more

I was recommended to this place by a friend because of the cheap price, popularity, and quality of the haircuts. Normal haircuts are only $11 and cash only! Also, booking appointments is not allowed at the time of this review. The priority for the line is a first come-first serve basis for the people who walk into the barber shop and wait. The barbers are mostly, if not all, Vietnamese. However, they understand and speak English so communication is not a big deal. Depending on when you go, it can be crowded at times. However, most times it's not packed and you don't have to wait long for an available barber. A lot of people from UC Irvine like to get their haircuts here so if you're looking for an affordable barber, this is the best place for it! The reason why I'm taking off one star is because some barbers tend to finish haircuts quicker than others and it results in some minor trims and cuts to the hair after I leave and when I arrive home. Overall, it's a nice place to get a haircut if you're looking for a barber that's affordable and does a decent job of getting the haircut done the way you want it! read more

I usually get my haircuts back in San Gabriel, but since I have moved to Long Beach, then to Costa Mesa, I have NEVER been satisfied with any barbers in these areas till now. I had to shave my head once because I could not stand how my hair looked. As I was hesitate to check out this shop, I read some reviews and thought I would give it a shot. Antom seemed like a reoccurring name on Yelp so I thought I would play it safe. I went in, waited 15 minutes, and told him exactly what I wanted. Chatted for a bit and found out he started the business with his mom. I am confident now that everyone there knows how to fade or cut men's hair with Antom's guidance over the past 5 years. I asked for a high/medium fade, cut a quarter (1/4) off the top, quick taper, no thinning. I got exactly what I asked for! It took less than 15 minutes. It was $9.55 and I ended up tipping $10 cause I was so satisfied. Note: There is a 0.55 cent service fee for cards. Definitely found my barbershop for the next couple of years. read more

So the barbers here only know how to do one cut, if you want razor snips go for it, can't beat the price. The place is always full and they don't say no, just do a rush job on everyone. Also the clientele is extremely dangerous, both times I went I sat next to people from halfway house talking about extremely inappropriate criminal activities. Also, I asked if they can give me an "A" line cut and at first I was told yes and that only the lady does women's haircuts and we waited an hour almost, just to be insulted. She told me it wasn't possible my hair was too curly, kept repeating it out loud and told me to get off the seat ( I have always had A line cuts before I grew it out, my hair is wavy and no one has ever said this to me). Truthfully, NONE of them are trained in more than 1 men's cut and definitely can't do women's haircuts, but are greedy enough to make promises! read more

TO BE COMPLETELY HONEST, I don't normally yelp whether positive or negative but this time I have to make an exception.... FIRST time I walked into the shop, I was greeted with "hello's" and "hi's", being a brotha, I asked if they knew how to cut my hair and was told they did. I got a bald fade and was so impressed with the quality hair cut, and the care that was taken to make me feel comfortable. That was 3 years ago, and I haven't gone to another barbershop since. Anton is my preferred barber, but EVERYONE in the shop is amazing. Like I said I'm not very big on writing reviews but I wanted to take a second, a give credit where credit is due. If you're in the Newport/ Costa Mesa/ Irvine area and u want to get a cut, this is THE SPOT! read more
