My 2.5-year-old fell asleep in the car right as we got to the beach. I'd been overdue for a trim, so with him taking his much needed nap I looked for something nearby and found Calico just 3 minutes away. Walked in, got accepted as a walk-in, and had a cut with David, great guy. I've been doing my own cuts for years, so it was nice to actually sit in a chair again. Fyi the shop is a little hidden, although I found that part kind of fun, a little exploration in a town I didn't know was nice for a change. It's behind the Duffy rental dock. If you're on Main Street, pull in and keep going toward the dock, there's parking there. Inside, it's quiet and chill. Oscar, the owner, was great to talk to. The place overall had very welcoming vibes, not standoffish or "too cool". A mom was leaving with her two boys as I walked in. I'd bring my son here for a haircut for sure, which might be soon. And as my wife said after the cut, "It looks really good, one of the best haircuts you've had." read more

What can I say about Cvlico Jvck? Love the work that is done. I have been seeing Oscar for the better part of 10 years now and couldn't be happier with the quality of care and attention to detail he provides to his clients. He takes into account the clients style, cut, hair type, and makes suggestions based on those facts from his experience -- even ones that may or may not be having issues with thinning hair. Additionally, his location in Newport is insane and a relaxing view on Newport Harbor makes it more tranquil. Oscar is a skilled barber and his ocean front open air location is beautiful - if you're debating, pick here! I came here to shave my head and embrace my make pattern baldness; Oscar made the experience fun, easy and educational. I brought my puppy and she played with Oscar's frenchie Bruce while I drank some hard seltzers and relaxed into the scary moment. I liken shaving your head for the first time to standing on a 40' cliff in Hawaii looking into a blue lagoon, you know it's safe because you just saw a dozen others make the leap but your still a little scared to let go. Oscar loosened me up so I could make the move and taught me how to maintain my new look ... the sprinkles on top was the beautiful fade he gave my beard. Thanks Oscar! read more

Came to Oscar after my last barber couldn't fit me in on a week I needed it. I hit Oscar up after finding his shop on yelp and decided to give it a try. Super stoked I did, shop is super cool, old school barbershop feel where you sit down and get offered a beer. The Pro: I always go to Max, and he is incredible. He always makes time for me, and I never have to worry about how my hair is going to turn out. At this point, I'll likely have to go to another salon for a professional color correction. Between what I already paid here and what it will cost to fix, I'm out around $500 or more. If achieving a rich brown on my hair wasn't something they were confident they could do, I wish they had been upfront about that before starting the service. I would have appreciated that honesty far more than ending up with a color I didn't ask for and an expensive correction process.

I got down to his shop and it is literally right in front of the harbor in Newport. from his haircut chair I am watching boats go by. very serene vibe. he spent just over an hour on me and he did amazing. he is a perfectionist and I will be going back and referring him to my bros.
