Best chamango in SD!! This spot has been my favorite place to grab chamamgos. I've been coming here for over 5 years now. They are so delicious! They have a good amount of chamoy and Mexican candy. Always hits the spot. Staff is really sweet and works quickly for my orders. They also make snacks and food like sandwiches. I try something new every time!
Construction on the parking structure to the Diamond Neighborhoods Family Health Center meant parking in the surrounding neighborhood and a lucky stop at Tocumbo for a 7yr old foodie who decided to run errands with me! They are a "Mom and Pop" ice cream spot near Market Creek Shopping Plaza with lots of traditional flavors alongside my Latin American favorites like Mamey, Maracuya, y Guanabana! (Oh..that's Mamey, passion fruit and sour sop- as I've heard it called by my Trinidadian friends.) We had a fun conversation with the young woman behind the counter regarding how to explain what Mamey tastes like. The closest I can think of is "tuttie fruity" lol. Hopefully with the initiative to build up Southeast SD business and residential spaces Tocumbo can bring smiles to many more faces for years to come.
This place is pretty good especially during the hot summer days. They have homemade ice creams, mangonadas, diabilas, chamangos, sandwiches, candies, etc. They're located in a small strip mall with enough parking space and the line can be long during summer but it goes by pretty quick. I usually just grab ice cream and their chamangos here which are good. They use real fruit in their ice creams And drinks which are super refreshing! I've never tried their sandwiches although they look good. Their prices have gone up tremendously and they got rid of their points reward system.
Wanted to post an updated menu for here! I've lived down the street from Tocumbo for a while, but the main thing my best friend and I come for is their coconut agua fresca. They only serve it on the weekends though, so we don't get it all the time, which makes it more special! Like most places now, prices for some items I feel are a bit steep, however some items are priced fairly. Just depends on what you're looking for. Sometimes the line can get backed up, but they do their best to keep it going if your order is quicker than the person ahead. It's always clean and cool in there as well!
My boyfriend took me to this place on a hot day for ice cream and for him it was for the aqua fresca juices. I was down for the idea and trying a new place. I ordered the corn and mamey scoops of ice cream, because I have never seen them on a menu and was intrigued. They have so many different flavors from sweet to savory. My guy ordered a fresh juice drink, which was also good and refreshing. I wish we had more spots like this in the Bay Area, serving up fresh refreshing sweet juice and ice creams.
This place is so good, I've been a couple of times. It has never disappointed. I got the corn in a cup and strawberry paleta. Everything was DELICIOUS. They have the best antojitos. Parking is good and they offer a 10% off your full order with yelp check in. Whoop Whoop! Yes please #plug lol
Found myself in the neighborhood while looking for a place for wings. Since I'm a sucker for all things ice cream, decided to stop by here for a quick treat. I ordered a small mangoneada. After taking a bite of the small mangoneada, I knew I had made a huge mistake... I should have ordered the MEGA mangoneada!! Damnittttt. My bf concocted his own milkshake creation - a blend of Oreo and Bubulubu ice cream. I told him that sounded like a weird mix and shouldn't do it. I was wrong. That shit was tasty AF.
This was part of the Taste of Barrio Logan. I tried the single scoop of pistachio on a plain cone. They had a variety of flavors, but pistachio is my favorite. The guy at the counter was nice and accommodating. Located right next to Asian Wok. Outdoor seating area.
My boyfriend took me here because he usually gets chamango from here. To me, there style of chamango is different from other places I've had. It's more of a chamoy slushy with chopped mangos on top w/ Mexican candy. I prefer the mango smoothie kind with chamoy in between. We also got a mangoneada but the ice cream was lime. We wanted to try something new so we got that but it was way too sour for me, my bf liked it though lol. Also their strawberry drink is pretty good here! Really great staff! They're all very kind!
Love this spot. This is one of my comfort foods. Whenever I'm on my way home driving down the 94 going east I think about exiting on Euclid Ave. if I'm having a ruff day or need a lift on my spirits I'll exit here and get me a treat. My favorites are the chamango and Aguas frescas. Yum yum. The girls that work there mostly speak Spanish but no worries they can help you if you only speak English because most of them are bilingual. They sell the bomb ice creams and have dairy free options too. They also sell sandwiches that we call tortas. They have lots of other treats as well. read more

This place was good 10 yrs ago. I'm glad I didn't tip. Don't waste your money here. I'm so pissed. I ordered 2 sincronizadas, ended up getting 2 quesadillas instead. I ordered 2 tortas one chicken and one lomo, ended up with the worst most expensive torta of my life. They were very stingy with the ingredients and the look was dry and nasty tasting. Just poorly made, period. I will NEVER come back. read more

This place is always busy and pack. They have the best chamango ever! Hands down!!! This place is the best for any Mexican snacks & desserts cravings!!! When I use to live a block away from here, I always give money to my little cousin to swing by and grab me my favorite thing there....hot Cheetos locos, aka tostiloco, with hot Cheetos instead of Tostitos!!!! If you are going to order that, make sure you grab a bag from the wall and get in line and hand it to them when you order. Also ordered fresas con crema (strawberries & cream), it's good but not as super good as the ones I had at Botellos fruit bar. Hot Cheetos locos: -pickled pork rinds/skin : jiggly gelatinous -cucumber & jicama -japanese peanuts : crunchy honey shell coat -chaka chaka : skinny tamarind candy (not the straw one) -chili & chamoy read more
After walking my dogs today I was in the mood for ice cream. First thing a did was to check out yelp and I found several locations in my neighborhood. "Neveria Tocumbo" offers a 20% off your purchase when you check in with Yelp. "Nice deal" because I wanted some ice cream. So I checked in and proceeded to look down the counter at about 18 different ice cream flavors (yummy). It took me a moment to decide and the clerk was helpful by offering me samples of any of the ice cream. I tried a vanilla bean flavor, coffee flavor, and strawberry shortcake. The vanilla bean and the coffee flavors were good but the strawberry shortcake was delicious. It taste just like strawberry shortcake except it was cold and creamy. The shop was clean and there was plenty of sitting room. The clerk was busy when I first walked in but she stopped her task, washed her hands, greeted me and proceeded to give me great customer service. She was helpful and polite. She gave me the feelilng that I was welcomed in here shop. read more
Definitely not the Same-Ole. My initial obsession is the corn (elote) ice cream. If you've ever tried good atol de elote (the sweetened corn beverage) it's pretty similar in taste & texture, except of course that they turned it into ice cream (and there's no cinnamon, but that might be good too). Michael tried the fresa con queso ice cream, which was more strawberry than cheese, but still good. As the other reviews suggest, they have a lot of non-vanilla choices. I will return to torment myself as to whether I will try new flavors or stick with what I know to be excellent. I also must emphasize that they serve actual food here too, and I had my very first ahogada torta. A Torta ahogada (literally "drowned sandwich") is your basic pork-and-fixins torta submerged in a sauce made primarily of chile de arbol. The girlfriend complained of numbed lips, but my only complaint was the two flimsy napkins. Delectable. (More napkins available upon request.) Furthermore, we came in on Sunday afternoon, and bless their hearts, they had my football game on a lovely screen overhead. Next time I'm going to ask them to scratch my back. (A little lower... a little higher ... ah right there!) read more
Who doesn't LOVE this place?! Homemade ice cream with real fruits!! Add the Chamoy for me and I am one happy camper! I love the chunks of mango but sometimes they're not that ripe. But the ice cream definitely makes up for that. Super refreshing on a hot day and if you check in on Yelp you get 20% off! read more
I have lived in SD all my life and this has got to be the TOP SPOT if you want a good neveria. The reason i dont say fruteria is because fruit is not their focal point- & who can really mess up a fruit salad? Anyway, home made ice cream & paletas(ice cream pops)- AMAZINGGG! Their nieve de limon tastes just like it does in mexico. This place is authentic & you will find flavors here that you cant find anywhere else. I wont rate based on food-because i dont come here for food- although their coctel de camaron is actually really good. Aguas frescas, nieves, chamangos, diablitos, fruit salads, fresas con crema, mangoneadas... ALL delicious- just look at the pictures. read more
There's so many yummy things at this place. Good homemade ice creams and popsicles. I love their diablito. Lime ice cream with chamoy & a tamarindo stick. Also if your a fan of hot cheetos and cheese, they have that good cheese. It reminds me of the cheese the lunch ladies used to scoop in your chip bag for 50 cents in junior high. I don't recommend coming here when you're in a hurry though. Sometimes it takes some time since they can get busy. read more

This is a great ice cream/paleta/fruit/torta place. The menu does have variety, but on the down side it seems that their prices are a little higher than average. The staff is friendly and they do everything pretty quickly. I got 3 scoops of ice cream, which for 5.99 seems a little steep, but I have to say the ice cream was very good. I got pistachio, mint chip, and limon. All three had good flavor, not too little nor too much....and the mint was extremely thick that it was hard to scoop it off. Plus the scoop sizes are generous, it's not just a rounded scoop...it was more like 2 per flavor. read more
Came for the CORN ICE-CREAM. I know, it sounds weird but it's quite delicious. If you've ever had creamed corn I'm sure you could understand how corn could be turned into ice-cream. My friend and I also had the like sherbert and mazapan ice-cream. The lime is refreshing. The mazapan was not how I expected it to taste. I thought it would be more like sweet almond, but it tasted more like a nutter butter. Very rich. Still pretty good though but just not the flavor I was hoping for. The vanilla churro wasn't hot when it came out, but the texture was great. Like Disneyland churro texture. My friend's churro was nicely filled with cream but mine was only filled on the end. I'd definitely come back for corn ice-cream. And I'll give their churros another try. Maybe the chocolate churro next time. read more
Going here made me so happy! It made my day! I found this place when I was looking for paletas, but I was even more excited for the nieves. I lived in Mexico for a few months last summer and I fell in love with nieves there. In Oaxaca, a man would push a cart down the street outside my apartment while playing music and yelling "nieves!". I loved it and I would go get limón nieves for 15 pesos (less than $1 usd). This place brought me back to those good memories. The limón nieve was so good. It's my favorite flavor. The paletas were also very good. However, the nieves have my heart. At first, it seems rather chaotic inside. You have to take a number and then wait for them to call your number. There's also a sign on the back wall with the current number being served. Once they call your number, you can walk up to the counter and place your order. They give it to you and then you wait in line to pay. It's a good system once you understand it. I really liked that I could practice my Spanish without feeling weird about it. Usually, I'm really hesitant to speak Spanish when I'm ordering, but it seemed like the only option here. All of the employees only spoke Spanish to me, which might be challenging if you don't speak any Spanish. For me, it ended up being a plus. I highly recommend this place. Good quality at a somewhat reasonable price. read more
The small town of Tocumbo Michoacan Mexico is serious about the ice cream business. So serious the towns entrances sports a 3 story high statue of a paleta (Popsicle) and Ice Cream cone. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/mrstranger/food/TT14-g.jpg The modest Neveria Tocumbo shop in San Diego is just as serious and proud about their business and it shows. All Ice Cream and Paletas are handmade in house using only quality natural ingredients. The thing I love most about Mexican Creamery's is they do not shy away from making exotic flavors. Some of my favorite ice cream flavors here include Elote (Corn), Guayaba (guava), and Rose Pedals. Corn Ice cream is they closest thing I can get to a taco in the ice cream world and I love it. Guava is such a refreshing tropical flavor. Rose Petals what can I say, so exotic with the beautiful creamy aftertaste of tiny crushed rose petal. Today I tried a very tasty Ice Cream rendition of Bubu Lubu. Bubu Lubu is a Mexican chocolate bar with a layer of strawberry-flavored jelly and a layer of marshmallow. http://candyaddict.com/blog/2007/02/09/candy-review-bubu-lubu/ They have so many more flavors you will just have to sample yourself. The owner and workers are very friendly, helpful, and generous with samples. With the Run in the mill Frozen Yogurt and Ice Cream establishments on every corner this is such a great place for those willing to expand their palettes. Okay. The scenery totally changed once I pulled up in the plaza. But that didn't scare me away from coming here. The store isn't nicely decorated, but that's not what everyone comes for. Once you get in, you take a number and wait to be called. I ordered the mangoneada (mango ice cream, cube mangoes, chamoy, chili powder and their famous straw). The girl asked if I wanted more chamoy, with no extra charge :)) I was definitely a happy camper. She also suggested for me to get the chamango, which is essentially the same except with shaved ice. Definitely getting this next time I'm in town! read more
