The man that helped us was extremely welcoming and was very nice. I have a Gluten Allergy, i asked if he knew what may be gluten free regarding the ice creams. I'd like to note there ice creams aren't properly labeled and things look rather disorganized but i wanted to give them a shot. The man did not know so he asked a women with glasses and a bun and she was extremely rude and made me extremely uncomfortable instantly about my allergy. I've tried many chamangos, and Tocumbo's chamango is one of my favorites! It's perfect for summertime--a refreshing mango-flavored shaved ice with chamoy and lots of tamarindo candies at the bottom. They are generous with the mango, which is great. My only complaint is that the mango is never ripe and always very hard with no flavor. This is not one of my favorite locations. Market location is usually my go-to. I recently went to the new National City location last week & that one was good too. This location just isn't it for me. I've been there 1-2xs. Parking is shared with other businesses. Workers seem whatever about their job. We were in the area and visited this place. Their chamango is amazing. Food servings were fairly large. The food was ok, nothing amazing (like the dessert was). I think it was a tad overpriced. We got two drinks and two entrees and it was nearly $40.. One thing that really annoyed me --an employee came over and asked if we needed help. He took y brothers order and left to prepare it. Yum! visited Tocumbo for some Ice Cream and walked out with two aguas frescas. I love how fresh their juices, you can taste the fruit and the freshness. Truly delicious. Whoa. Whoa. MIND BLOWN. Gansitos line the edge of the ice cream display. There are paletas, elote en vaso, tortas ahogadas, and of course, nieve. It sits across from Chicano Park and Northgate Mercado Gonzalez. The surprise was the mangoneada which is mango nieve topped with actual mango fruit and drizzled with tamarind sauce... and it's delicious. I love that they have aguas frescas available as well! I don't get the rave reviews for the chamango? Maybe I came on an off day? But it was nothing like any chamango I've ever had in Mexico or San Diego. It was basically a mango/chamoy raspado with underripe mango chunks on top. So the ice was super thick chunks rather than a smoothie texture. My sister brought me here when I visited San Diego and, to be honest, I didn't think that it was going to be as good as it was! The colors and the presentation of the ice cream itself wasn't the best, but the flavor was definitely there! I ordered the lemon and guanabana and they tasted just like I had in Mexico. The other flavors that I tried were the coconut and mango...and oh my goodness... they were amazing! The coconut was out of this world and the mango tasted like actual mango, not artificial at all. I also tried the lomo torta that my mom ordered and it was good - not great. I loved that it was full of veggies but it needed queso fresco and/or crema! I would still order it in the future though - just don't expect a "typical/authentic" torta when you order it. It's definitely a healthier option which I completely appreciated. New ice cream/torta place in Barrio Logan. Looks like customers come in more for the unique, Mexican flavored ice creams than their tortas or sandwiches. They also serve Tostilocos. If you've never had one, it's a Mexican street food that consists of a bag of Tostitos tortilla chips, pig skin or rinds, cucumber, jicama, Japanese peanuts, Chamoy and tajin. It's muy delicioso!! I love how the area is becoming more modern with new buildings and development. And this is located across the parking lot from Northgate. This seems like a place that gets very busy because they have a ticket system at the entrance. Even if there are a few people in the store, they will ask you what your number is, so get a number. Chamango - Thicker texture than a smoothie, the ice is not as fine. Okay compared to other Chamangos I have had before. More spicier & sour. Lacking knowledge about their drinks, I asked to sample them. They were so generous. Each drink sample was about the size of a small ice cream that you would get from any other shop. My friends all ordered mangonadas instead of chamango. The workers were happy to explain what the difference is. Chamangos are mangos with crushed ice and that spicy Lucas like flavor mixed it. Mangonadas are made with ice cream instead of ice. It comes with a stick of the candy as well. Basically, it is a mix of sweet and and that tangy spice. I know a lot of people like it, but as appetizing as it appears, it's not my cup of tea. I like these flavors separate. I do, however, suggest that you try it out at least once! I hate to say this about a place that there were a lot of people at, but someone that comes from Arizona that knows what a good Raspado tastes like should say something. This place had the worst non actual fruit Radpado I have ever tasted. He didn't use real fruit like all other places use. It was like some syrupy concoction that got blended with some ice n water. Overall their Açaí Bowl is good ! The only thing I can say is that it's a tad sweeter than usual açaí bowls. I'm not sure if they sprinkle some sugar on top or leave strawberries in sugar overnight, but it's still workable. This review hurts because my kids and I really do love their ice cream. However, time and time again the customer service is HORRIBLE. Being greeted and served with a smile or friendly tone is everything. I know we all have off days BUT we have been to this Tocumbo over a handful of times and I can't recall one occasion where we were treated with a happy face. My five year old once couldn't decide on a flavor so I asked if there was anyway one scoop could be split into two different flavors, I was very rudely told it couldn't be done. I also always request they serve my kids smaller scoops and I've gotten eye rolls with a "it's going to cost the same" as if it's more work for them. I don't mind paying the same but really? No need to be rude. Worst of all my sister in law ordered something once and told them she was extremely allergic to strawberries. We saw the lady cut up strawberries for a different order and then proceeded to use the same knife used on the strawberries for my sister in laws order!!
