A Touch of Class was exactly what I was looking for the first time I walked in. I'll tell you why you need to get your hair cut at A Touch of Class Barbers: 1. Price. The price turns out to be the same as a cookie-cutter, strip-mall haircut-in-a-box shop. Except you get way more. From just a "# of services to price" standpoint, you get a high quality and personalized haircut, and hot foam straight razor shave on your neckline for $20 (which feels great). A haircut at a chain barber will run you close to $20 anyways, but they can't do the hot foam or straight razor. No shampoo included in the $20 cut, but do you really need to pay $8 for someone to shampoo your hair for a haircut when you just shampooed it that morning? Also, it wasn't like a salon where it takes an hour to do something that shouldn't take an hour. Since I had an appointment, I walked in, shook Paul's hand, sat in the chair, and within 30 minutes I was paying and on my way out. Don't take this as impersonal, they're just conscious of your time, and the 30 minutes were enjoyable. Read on: 2. People. I had never been to a traditional barber before I decided to take a chance on A Touch of Class. Paul answered the phone, was friendly, and we booked my appointment that day. I showed up 5 minutes late, and Paul was still warm and inviting and ready to focus his attention on my hair cut. We made small talk, talked about the shop and his philosophy on cutting hair and how to run a barber shop that is people focused. Not just typical small talk about my occupation, where I live, etc. We talked about topics that make you think you're having a beer with an old friend. And of course, the jokes and banter mixed in. 3. The Shop. The crew at A Touch of Class take their craft seriously, and with that they take their customers seriously. They've created a unique shop environment where you can feel comfortable with not only the barbers but the other customers in the shop. The shop has all the creature comforts you love (big leather chairs, TV, artwork on the walls, magazines you'll actually read instead of tabloids and Mom's Weekly), with a nice modern touch. I had an appointment with Ranae at A Touch of Class after work last week. I got stuck in traffic on the way over and called to tell her that I was running late. I ended up getting to the shop about 30 minutes late for my appointment. I felt really bad about being so late, but Ranae was totally cool about it and kept the barber shop open after hours just to cut my hair. This was by far the worst place to get a haircut. He did not understand what I wanted and cut off way to much and kept trying to tell me what he thought would look good. I just wanted an even 2 in trim all around. What I got was spur short back and sides with much longer on the top. Looks fucking ridiculous. I read that Touch of Class Barbers had a European Barber named Peter. After walking by the shop I was rushed in my "Ranae", who wanted me to receive a haircut from her. I declined and got a haircut from peter instead, who gave me his time and talent. There are many barbers here in Portland (mine was Dosha) and none could compare. Peters chair-side manners are very comforting and pleasant. He aims to please and you will be coming out of your chair a happy person. Why is this so? Because His personality shines! Due to the downtown location it is difficult to find a parking spot right outside the shop. Appointments are a simple online arrangement. Their prices are reasonable and the haircuts are of high quality. I have been making a trip from Portland, Or to Peter at a Touch of Class Barber Shop for five months now. I just joined Yelp so I could write this review. I walked past A Touch of Class the other day (I work in Kirkland) and was intrigued, as I needed a trim. I poked around Yelp to double-check my options and booked an online appointment for the next day with Frank. With little fanfare and seasoned ease, Frank gave me the best haircut I've ever had. This is not hyperbole. I was worried about how it was going, but Frank just kept taking bits off here and there in between our thorough conversation. He sought feedback at the right time (I prompted him to take off a little more), and I walked out feeling pretty good about it. This review is just about the barber who cut my husband's hair. Her name is Raiden. The haircut was ok, EXCEPT the fact that she cut out two weird "design" looking things in the temple of his head and said that it was already there. He hadn't had a haircut in at least 4 weeks and those bald spots would have grown out if it was done by someone else like she kept trying to tell us. If she would at least admit to her messing it up herself then we wouldn't even be upset because we understand 'things happen'. I get a very traditional haircut. Shaven on the sides, with a hard part from which I slick my hair back and to the side. Upon sitting down I told the German woman that I wanted the side faded from a "0" - "1" and the top to be left alone, that it would only need a cleanup of the ends. Seeing that my previous cut had been less than a month ago it's also pretty obvious what I get. The woman shaved the side of my head, however it is not a fade. Very disappointing. After she attempted to fade my hair she began to part my hair at the hard part. She then in a flash cut the hairs that I come over from over 4 inches long to less than an inch. Due to the genetic makeup of my hair if the hairs are less than 3 inches long they won't hold their place with the pomade so now when I slick my hair over there is a hard part and an awkward half inch mow hawk that stands up and won't go down. It will take me THREE MONTHS to grow my hair back so I can start styling it the same way I've been styling my hair for over a year. Flaws: -Didn't know how to fade hair -Seemed rushed -Chopped off the one section of hair that I explicitly said not to touch, ruining my style Overall a very disappointing experience. This is a nice looking barber shop and the gentleman I dealt with after seemed very nice. The one positive note is that he camped my hair cut, not that I would have paid if they had asked. Today I would have been better off going to Great Clips. I wanted a touch of class, instead I got an awkward mow hawk looking haircut that wont lay flat. read more

I received a haircut here that was very unsatisfactory. The female stylist took 5 minutes to cut my hair and the cut was very choppy and uneven. My wife and I complained a made her fix it and even it out. $25 for 5 minutes of work for the worst haircut I've ever had. It would have been embarrassing to walk out in public with that haircut. Touch of Class provides a full service barber shop, including straight razor shaves which I love. They have a convenient on line appointment process and I have never had a problem with my appointment. I also like my hair very short and TOC is the only place to cut it short enough with scissors. I had an 11 AM appointment today and walked in at 10:56. I saw a man walk in about 30 seconds before me and he was speaking to Leta when I arrived. She seated him in the chair and directed me to one of the chairs in the waiting area. I said "I have an appointment at 11" and she said "I'm sorry but I'm double-booked". WHAT? How does one become "double-booked"? I looked at the computer screen on the desk and saw that there was only one appointment at 11 and it was mine. She took a walk-in ahead of a booked appointment. I have been very happy with the service here until today. I will never set foot in this establishment again. If I have to let my hair grow as long as Tom Hanks did in "Castaway" so be it. If you are in this business, you might get behind but you do not take walk-ins ahead of appointed customers. This is an unforgivable offense. I was referred to touch of class by a friend and was instantly impressed. I got a beard trim & haircut from Paul. Great guy! Easy to talk with, friendly, but most importantly a well-trained & professional barber. He listened to by request, and nailed it on the beard trim and haircut. On the beard trim he used an electric trimmer, lined it up with his straight edge razor and warm shaving cream. He also lined up my hair with his straight edge razor as well. Most importantly he used after-shave balm to preserve/heal my face and neckline after the shave. He introduced me to some new hair pomade made by Suavecito https://www.suavecito.com/. The following day I called Paul back to see if he carried any of the shaving products by Suavecito, he did not, but was willing to order the product that I was looking for. This is a great barber shop experience, without the high price tag attached. I paid $24 for a beard trim, haircut and left him a $6 tip. I have been to some of the other trendy barber shops, but was irritated with the sliding scale price based on the barber's experience. I paid $60 for a beard trim and haircut at Weldon Barber. Not worth the price when I can see Paul for the same service, and much lower price tag. read more

What a horrible experience right as we walk through the door. My friend from England was over for a visit and he wanted a straight razor cut. I told him that I knew of a place in Kirkland so we drove down and walked into the shop. As soon as we walked in the lady that was cutting someone's hair yelled at us "Did you make an appointment online!" Keep in mind, there were no hair dryers going, we were the only people in the shop besides her and her client...there was no reason to be yelling at us. I said "I thought you took walk-ins. You're sign says Walk-Ins Welcome". She yelled at me again and said "You have to make an appointment online!". I was getting angry at this point and told her there was no need to be yelling at us...we literally just walked in the door. She didn't greet us with hello, or 'I'll be right with you" or anything...just started yelling about making an appointment online. I will never step foot in that shop again or recommend it to anyone even though we didn't even get our haircut there. Even if they're the best, I don't know if I would want someone so rude and angry to be wielding a straight razor near anyone's head! Definitely Class-less!!
