Update: The stylist was "Cindy"- not Grace. I brought my son in for a men's flow/old money cut. His hair was nicely long and suitable for this style. I requested that the back be kept long, discussed the treatment around the ears. Showed Grace the stylist inspiration pictures. Asked if she could do it. She said she understood. I had to take a call outside. When I came back she already cut the back short and did the opposite of what I asked around the ears. It's as if she ignored my & my son's wishes and did whatever she wanted. My son is sad- it will take a long time to grow his hair out again. I don't recommend Grace because she did not listen and did not satisfy her client. read more

Never have I heard an employee be so openly disrespectful and degrading towards another in the open. An employee HOLLERED towards the others, "I thought we are not supposed to speak other languages, just English--at least that's what our meeting was about." As a bilingual speaker, this was also personally oppressive. She further said 15 minutes later, "me no speak good English," mocking the other employees. I am offended by the establishments allowance of this behavior and saddened for the affected employees. Otherwise and the only reason why this is a 2 star review--my haircut is ALWAYS a 5 star service. I have been coming here since 2017 and love the rapport I have with my hairstylist. read more

I'm a woman with short hair. I find sometimes we get the worse of the worse or best of the best. When you find someone not afraid to cut a woman's hair short they do an excellent job and these guys did. Also the price was reasonable $40 instead of $75 which isc what a lot of places charge because I'm a woman not looking at it's a short easy haircut. I will definitely be back! read more

WARNING: AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!! Terrible haircut and sexist comments guaranteed!!! I came here with my 6yo son to get his first real haircut after since the pandemic started. He had grown it out for a couple years with minor trims I had done. This was his first big boy haircut. We got an older gentleman, and he was nothing short of TERRIBLE. He cut his hair way shorter than asked, all choppy and sloppy. Worse than I ever did during the pandemic. It was as if my 6yo had cut his own hair. The kicker was that the barber, whose name I can't remember, made very backwards comments to us: "when he came in, he looked like a girl, now he looks like a boy!". He said this TWICE. The first time I simply said it's just hair. The second time I walked away and told the front desk person. I didn't want to bring attention in front of my young son. The barber never asked me what I thought and just let me son walk to me about 5min later, and he left. Mind you, we're talking about a 6yo, so he obviously can't exactly tell what he needs cut more etc. I examined his hair while walking out, wanting to get out ASAP, and it was TERRIBLE. Nothing was even, even in the back where a trimmer was used. The front was choppy too, and nothing lined up. I swear it was as if I had let a young child cut his hair. Kim realized this as we were walking out and tried fixing it. She admitted it was a terrible job. But as a result it got even shorter, and there's only so much you can do. It's been a month or so, and it's still pretty terrible and uneven. I really didn't want to leave this review, as I know it'll hurt the business. But reality is, we had a TERRIBLE experience. As I said to them: it's 2023, not 1993! We won't be coming back, EVER! And I'll go back to cutting my son's hair myself. And if he wants to go to a place, you bet we won't be coming here! read more

I feel like this place is only good if you request for Kim. I came in and requested for long curtain bangs but somehow they managed to cut the top layer of the side of my hair and called it curtain bangs.. definitely not what I asked for. The stylist also suggested I get my hair curled because my hair is flat and it'll look better curled... after I made a comment that I think she cut off way too much oh one side and she proceeded to try and convince me by parting my hair where it shouldn't even be parted... after, she kept yanking my hair out and brushing it saying my hair is beautiful even though she just butchered off a huge chunk on my right side. If you're cool waiting for 30-45 minutes after your appointment time, then they do a decent job. I visited this salon this past Sunday, had my hair done by Sommers and I am so glad I came! I couldn't be happier with the results. I had long grown out hair with with lots of grays framing my face. She dyed my roots, ran a toner to the length then cut fresh new layers. She then blew my hair dry and used a straightening wand to add waves which is my favorite way to style my hair. Grays are 100% covered, and my hair looks shiny and healthy now. I didn't have to wait more then 5 min before being helped but I showed up before opening and waited until they opened. By the time I left ~2 hrs after arriving all the stylists were busy and there were people waiting, so come early if you can. The staff here does a great job of managing a busy salon while providing great service. I never felt rushed and am relieved that it came out so good. Loved my experience here! I had my haircut with Kim today and you can call ahead around an hour so that you don't need to wait prior to going in. She starts working from 12, and I called at 11 but there were already 3 people in ahead of me (you know she's that good;) ). It was actually my first time getting my hair cut here. Because I wanted someone who was good with Asian hair, I read all the reviews and it seems like she was very knowledgable and capable of what she was doing. She is the sweetest and really listens on how much I wanted to cut, never going any shorter - It looked great too! I was in and out around 30 minutes and it was $38 for a haircut. Unfortunately I was not impressed with the spot at the shop. While I feel it's appropriate to give a disclaimer that I didn't actually get my haircut, I wanted to provide a review of this salon regardless. Upon calling, the woman on the phone was less than helpful with close to no information for me. Additionally, upon arriving, they were less than friendly. I requested to speak with a stylist to discuss a cut, as many places do, they call this a consultation, instead of scheduling one, they had me stand next to a stylist as she cut someone else's hair, and the whole situation was just not good. I felt bad interrupting, I'm sure the woman felt like her haircut was being invaded, and the stylist was not thrilled to be answering questions and was rather short with me. In their defense, this place looks really full and really popular, hence my curiosity to get my haircut here. Unfortunately this is just not my spot. I have the feeling though, if you're just going in for a quick buzz or chop, this could be a potentially good spot. read more

Really bad customer service. I walked in for colour treatment with Kim before the Thanksgiving day. But they told me that they were fully booked and put me on the earliest booking on the day following the Thanksgiving day. When I arrived on a chilly day, they told me that i was put on a random list and can only do the haircut. No one at the shop can do colour treatment. Who will drive half an hour for a random haircut. I like the location and feel of this place. Their prices are incredibly reasonable! They only book same day appointments. That said, because they dont charge as much as other salons their hairdresser retention isnt the same as other local salons (since they could make more money on tips at places that charge more). Because of that, your experience depends a lot on who does your hair. read more

Reylene was honest, understanding and really saw my vision. She helped me picked out the colors, told me about the process all the way through and 3 hours later I walked out with my favorite hair ever! The color was better than I even imagined! Update on my review 2/16/20 5/5 stars My daughter and I were walk ins for some trims. While I didn't catch the lady's name who did my daughters hair I would give her 5/5 stars she was very good with my child and did a great trim. For my hair cut I had Summer, she is super chill and laid back which I love. Good convos and she cut my hair SO GOOD. While she did take a bit more off in length than I had pictured I didn't mind in the end because she got every dead end and my hair feels so fresh,silky and healthy. 5/5 stars We love The Shop for everyone in the family. read more

What a great experience! I went to The Shop yesterday to get my trendy haircut done. I had no clue where to go, so I checked Yelp and made moves. I walked in here and got seated right away with Graham (without an appointment, but I would recommend setting one up). I told Graham I wanted a trendy nice haircut and I wanted it long on top. Everything else I had no clue, I just wanted to come out looking like the coolest dude on the block. I told him I'm putting all my faith in him to give me a great cut and he came through in the clutch! He even styled me up with some product and gave me some pointers on how to achieve the same look on my own at home (based on how my hair is). Conversation was easy and nice here too, we talked music pretty much the whole time. Be sure to get a punch card, so you get a free haircut in the future. I love my cut. Let me start by saying I am one of the pickiest clients out there. Fact! I live in Seattle (downtown), but stopped here because I was getting my car worked on and had some time. Walked in, everyone was really friendly and had a great vibe to the place. Did not have an appointment but got right in a chair. Kathy (spelling might not be correct) cut my hair and did an AMAZING job. She listened to what I was saying and did exactly that. I have had a ton of cuts where the stylist appears to be listening but in the end doesn't do what I asked for. Kathy did a perfect job, payed attention to the details and I left with an ideal cut. On top of that she was really fun and easy to chat with. I might have to jump in the car from now on and drive over here to get Kathy to do her thing. $25 is killer deal for this cut. 5 stars, two thumbs, all of the above. She was great. read more

I walked in to The Shop today (Friday afternoon) and was told the wait was about 15 minutes. Every chair was full and there was another person waiting. However, about 15 minutes after walking in, I was in a chair. Naomi asked what I wanted. I said I "wanted my long hair cut off quite a bit shorter with light layers. No heaviness." After saying so little, I slightly panicked thinking maybe I should be more specific. Naomi proved me wrong, in a really good way! She cut my hair exactly how I wanted it!! I was totally amazed and blown away. I will most definitely be coming back! I will say this one thing. Their location is great, right in the heart of downtown Kirkland, but during big weekend events, like Oktoberfest, it is crazy difficult to find parking. I love this salon! I have been to my fair of salons in the area and I can say there is no reason to go anywhere else. Super chill and laid back. All the stylists are quick and skillful but my girl Kim - she is amazing with color. She is your color specialist! I talk about her to everyone I know who is looking for a new stylist. :) The salon is very popular and gets busy, especially on the weekends. Definitely go early or call ahead. You can also pop in to put your name on the list and then walk across the street to grab coffee or a quick bite then head back for your turn. Either way, it is well worth it! read more
