I LOVE breakfast. It's my favourite meal of the day to eat out. And when I can walk in to a cafe or restaurant and the service ambiance, coffee and food are all great (and reasonably priced) I can not ask for anything more. This was my first time at Toby's Estate and it certainly won't be my last. Located up the road from Newtown (between Cleveland St and Broadway) it was easy to park my motorbike out front (Sunday morning) and enjoy this delicious meal. Not taking any stars off for this place - I couldn't fault it. It just takes a lot for me to I've FIVE STARS. For the location and the price point, I was still waiting for that BAW-WOW factor. I'll re-review I I ever get it.

You really can't go wrong with Toby's Estate and the locals in the area seem to agree. Stopping by this place every so often on my way to work the line outside the takeaway coffee counter was always at least 5 people deep and inside was bustling, weekdays and weekends! Go along and you'll find out why. Great coffee, great food and a great ambiance. You can see them roasting the coffee beans out the back in the factory from the windows inside the cafe so you know that it's going to be good. They've got a host of pre-made sandwiches and cakes in the window of the takeaway counter which are never soggy and are always fresh and change flavours every week. The only disappointing thing from there was their bacon and egg roll. I just don't agree with putting bernaise sauce on a bacon and egg roll...too creamy. But if that's really the only bad thing then they're doing alright. The staff are really friendly and the inside of the cafe looks like it has been freshly renovated with bench seats looking out over busy City Road and Victoria Park, perfect for people watching whilst you sip a latte and read the paper!

Parked a block away from Toby's Estate, the smell of roasting coffee beans hit me from the moment I opened the door. The smell got stronger as we got closer, until the toast-like aroma (my boyfriend always wonders why he craves toast when we drive by) morphed into caffeine as we walked in the doors. Sadly, we were informed as we entered that the kitchen was closing and so we couldn't order any food (at only 2pm). This was disappointing, as the sandwiches sounded pretty tasty. The empty Specials board was similarly disheartening. Hungry and somewhat dejected, we decided to stay for a coffee anyway and hope that this would get us through to our new lunch location. Our faces lit up though when the waitress, sensing our disappointment, brought us over some caramel slice, "hopefully this helps a bit!" Despite its unfortunate City Rd location, Toby's happens to have a pretty nice view of Victoria Park. The interior is nice, the walls doused in blackboard paint, and the workers are happy to help you select your beans, educating you on the differences between the varieties. Whilst the coffee wasn't too bad, it didn't live up to Toby's brilliant reputation. And, considering the shelves of coffee merchandise (machines, tamps, cups, and at least 12 different types of take-home beans), the coffee should really be up there. Perhaps if my expectations hadn't been set so high, I wouldn't have been disappointed. From memory Toby's was a pretty nice place to be. Sadly, this time it failed to impress.

This is good for a standard aussie brunch. Nothing overly special or unexpected, but great at what they do. Cute environment, too!

One of the coolest post-COVID renovations I've seen. Food and beverage still the best around here..

You order at the front register, and they bring your order to you. I've only tried their hojicha latte and taro latte, but they are the best lattes (no coffee) I've ever had. They're so flavorful and rich with a fluffy foam design on top. The drink itself is smooth and creamy but not overly sweet. Hits the spot!

They've set up shop in a teeny tiny Lilliputian cottage in Kensington Lane in the new Central Park precinct. It backs onto Spice Alley and has light-filled interiors that are all white walls and light wood and it feel positively Scandinavian. Then there's the coffee. Good lord, man. It comes served in these custom cups, they're kind of grainy and glazed and feel like they've been hewn out of very light sandstone by some unnamed master craftsman who will die a nobody but be recognised posthumously as one of the finest artisans of this or any age, Van Gogh style. The barista had the obligatory mustache but boy, did this dude know what service felt like. Polite, friendly, charming, without being overbearing. Win stars out of five. Top class, thank you and goodnight.

I've been meaning to write up a review for weeks, but struggled to choose what to write about. The menu is seasonal and changes weekly, some samples include finely cut wagyu, crusted in dukkah and served on sourdough, honey-glazed bacon with fresh avocado, and mushrooms with ricotta. Almost everything comes served with sprinklings of sprouts and greens grown on the windowsill. The menu is small but there's almost always something for everyone; however, those looking for your classic big breakfast should come prepared to settle for something a little different. The quality of coffee is not entirely consistent, but the molasses-infused sugar makes up for it. I could eat a jar of it by itself. There's also a range of sandwiches on offer. A friend recently brought home lamb-shoulder on sourdough that had me drooling. I need to be strong, three visits in one day is just too much.

And if I was going to personify this cafe, that's how it'd go. It's small and charmingly ramshackle and chilled out and social all at the same time, it's basically how I want my living room to be. The coffee is fantastic, as are the views across the new Central Park development, and weirdly the noise of the construction across the road doesn't seem to come inside. The small menu is on the spendier side, but it looked creative & wholesome. Bring a book or a notepad to write deep thoughts in.

Sebastian, the robust English chef, serves up traditional and delicious café cuisine for breakfast and lunch on weekdays and a beautiful roast for Sunday lunch. He's funny at best, though I might warn you not to sit too close to the kitchen unless you want to overhear a colorful monologue of cynicism and crude jokes. Some winning items on the menu include the "Big Salad" which changes daily and can include a delicious mixture of pumpkin, cous cous, eggplant, walnuts, raisins, and any other odds and ends the chef decides to add on the day. I recommend ordering it with poached chicken, which is as tender as can be. Another popular item is the BLT, served on Turkish bread. Careful though, it's big enough to feed your entire family of seven. If you can appreciate a good chip (or 2 dozen), Bar Mattino's are hand cut and fried to perfection. Lastly, I would highly and enthusiastically recommend the house made brownie, for which I solely blame the gain of 3 kilos. It's chocoloatey, and melty, and powered sugary and just ALL good.
