Waiting to be seated

We were in Sydney on vacation and found this place on Yelp. Everything we had was absolutely delicious. I highly recommended the corn fritters! My husband had an egg and bacon sandwich which he also found delicious. If you are in the area this is a must do.

The coffee tasting option was great. The lemongrass tacos were so delicious. Matcha on tap is a must have.

This was plan 'C' after checking out other disappointing hip new SH spots. On a late Sunday morning, we were fighting real hunger anxiety and frankly not too many options in that immediate vicinity on Sundays. Thankfully, we've had the best luck in these small cafe+ type eateries in our Aussie trip so far. We had a bit of a wait since we were a party of 3 (about 25-30m) with a few solos getting in before us. The seating is limited indoors with a few booths and counter seats but with another 6-7 double seater tables outside. We ordered a latte, flat white, matcha latte to start. Espresso drinks were really delicious with the flavorful coffee taste really tempered by the creamy milk. We asked for matcha without the additional agave sweetener since these are typically very sweet. It came out amazing and not too sweet. For food we ordered the avo show (with extra egg and bacon), the chicken toastie, and the chickpea cilbir. Everything was just simply amazing. Highlights - avo show: achiote cashew cheese (tastes like peanut butter); chickpea cilbir: whipped feta (super creamy and rich); chicken toastie: the seasoned crumbled chicken and halloumi/mozzarella cheese. Service was brisk and friendly. Really cool slightly grungy industrial vibe (you even have to go outside to go back inside to get to the restroom). A bit pricy but very much worth it.

The cold brew was refreshing. Great service and nice ambiance. Seats are available outside for take always to sit and observe. Recommend checking out.

Really cute cafe with some awesome coffee! We got a flight that sampled 3 of their coffees that rotates. Really liked the cold brew.

The Avo Show + Poached Egg + Bacon

Wow. All I can say is wow. The food here is so freaking good. This was easily one of the best gluten free (GF) avocado toasts I have ever had, & the poached egg & bacon were worth the additions. My partner loved the Native Thyme Lamb dish, & both of our meals were extremely flavorful & fresh. My iced oat milk latte was incredible as well. The shop staff were friendly, & there is indoor & outdoor seating. We will definitely be back!

Poached eggs, toast, & coffee

I had one day in Sydney. Coming off the train from the airport to Central Station, Single O was top on the Yelp list. It was busy and I was lucky to get a table. I got a coffee along with poached eggs and toast. Everything tastes great. No complaints. It was just what I needed to fuel up to your Sydney.

I'm not the hugest fan of coffee and nor do I know much about it, but I thought the coffee here was fine. I visited so many cafes while I was in Australia, but this one stood out to me because of the food. They've got your basic avo toast and bread with spreads, but they also have mapo mushroom on toast and sticky rice on their all-day menu. I had the corn and riberry fritter which was delicious, but also a great example of how cool the menu is. Corn fritters with avocado mousse, a big roasted tomato, and kimchi? Weird combo and I like it. When I was looking at the menu, I wished I'd had 6 stomachs so I could try everything. I think the menu changes every once in a while, though.

This is a hip spot with a takeaway coffee bar and a dining area serving delicious avo toasts, eggs, and all the other breakfast/brunch goodies you could wish for. They even have bloody marys! While the restaurant was busy, I was seated immediately. When it comes to food, this was hands down the best fish sandwich I've EVER had. Their 'chats' aka potatoes served with aioli are to die for. This place is legit.

Danish

Singlehanded the healthiest meal I'd eaten though my two week trip in Australia. I got their Mothership Bowl which is basically a boatload of varied veggies and eggs. Pricey, but the flavor profiles are so fresh and made me actually like eating healthy while on vacation!! I especially enjoyed their sweet potato spread in the bowl, real savory stuff. Their danish was nice and crispy too - a delicious pastry option that's sweet in the center too. PROS: - healthful options and dishes available - interior is cozy with seating inside and outside available - dishes have strong / delicious flavor profiles that are healthy too CONS: - a bit on the pricier end

Breakfast Roll: $14.00

Sydney, and Surrey Hills in particular, is seemingly just overflowing with quality cafes, coffee shops, and brekky spots, and Single O is rightfully amidst the best of the best. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? I must have ran by eight or nine cafes during a Thursday morning run, and Single O was jam packed even on what was a cool overcast mid-morning. Even so, the friendly servers were able to accommodate me quickly, and my breakfast came out quickly after ordering. Kudos. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $14.00 AUD got me a decent sized breakfast sandwich with generous portions of bacon, an egg, and some peripherals. This would have been tougher to swallow if the USD exchange rate weren't so generous, but as is this was more than affordable. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? This was a straight forward but well executed breakfast sandwich. The fried egg made it all a messy endeavor, but the bacon wasn't too fatty and paired nicely with the tangy mayo and the tomato paste. Single Star. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? I'd gladly come back to Single O, and I get why it's so popular even amidst so many strong competitors. Star.

banana bread with espresso butter

This is kind of a coffee elitist place. But the coffee is good and the banana bread was excellent.

Love those sidewalk seating! Request and grab those tables if it is nice and sunny outside. Coffee A+. (I have yet have a disappointing Flat White as yet!) We were here for brunch and we ordered: Banana Bread & Espresso Butter ($7) Black Eye Beans, Fried Eggs and Grilled Chorizo ($16) Their food is EPIC! To the point when my sister after she ate her half and eyeing mine and asked me if I going to finish that?! Nice complex taste, texture and interesting element combination. Highly recommend to drop by for lunch or brunch. Even on a weekday, the place was full for an early lunch!

You can add more to it such as heirloom cherry tomatoes, avocados, greens; garlic roasted field mushrooms, pork sausage, eggs or smoked ocean trout. I opted for scrambled eggs and it was a breakfast for champions NGL. Soooo good! Paired with the orange blossom matcha milk, I'm in heaven! I'm not really a citrusy kinda girl but that combo was divine. I needed more caffeine though for my long day ahead so I got a large mocha-- just the buzz I needed. The vibe is very aesthetic, industrial chic with high ceilings. Love the tables as well as the pitchers that look like Aesop bottles haha. I was really torn between the shokupan yuzu French toast and stracciatella, chilli and hazelnut toast but I'm glad I went with savory. Absolutely what I needed for today's adventures. They even, one morning, came over to confirm something about my order that I'd forgotten to note--very nice. The food was good. My only complaint is that the toast was overtoasted, even a little burnt. But that seems to be par for the course for restaurants in Australia--it happened other places as well, including in Adelaide. One morning my daughter ordered the avocado on toast, and she said that it was just guac. IDK. But overall, it was good and convenient and the service was very good.

We both had the Chilli Eggs and while my husband enjoyed his I was expecting something with more flavour because of the name of the dish and the ingredients. There were no potatoes served with the dish, just sourdough toast under the eggs, so I felt the serving size did not justify the price. $21.00 for 2 eggs with no spice and toast. Seriously!! I would not recommend. There is no service. The whole experience did not provide value for the money.

We came in thinking it was just a coffee shop, but it's essentially a restaurant that also has a focus on coffee. They have a full bar and a window to the outside where you can order just coffee and tea to go. As for the interior it's dimly lit and sort of has romantic date night vibes. We essentially only ordered coffee and one person ordered a cake slice. The lychee cake was pretty good per my aunt. A couple people ordered the Coco Loco, which is basically an espresso martini on steroids with Nutella and something like a Ferrero Rocher. I ordered a latte and their Affogato. The latte was very smooth and BI is arguably one of the best I've ever had. Is the Affogato a cheat code because they use like a tiramisu ice cream? You could argue that case. You can also buy their blends of coffee beans, subject to availability. While the latte was very smooth, I can't say it was mind blowing but it was still pretty good.

I will say the coffee here and in Australia in general is some of the best coffee I've ever had. I ordered (2) espresso martinis, pancakes, and the sirloin steak breakfast with a side hashbrown. My pancakes were stone cold but I will say the aesthetics on it made it edible. The pistachio butter cream was to die for. My steak was ok ; for the price I simply just wanted more. I could be wrong but I doubt it was even 6oz. If you have this place on your radar be sure to make reservations. This goes for almost every restaurant in Sydney. My server was Cassie who was very personable and even gave us tips on what to watch out for dining in Sydney.
