    Lamb souvlaki
    Mischa H.

Urban bites has been a favourite go to hangout coffee spot for the past few years due to its later opening hours, covered outdoor seating area, and decent food options. The coffee is good, the service is always friendly and there are some decadent cakes to choose from too! The food is the usual modern Australian/Mediterranean fare. With some tasty grilled options. On my last visit I had the Greek lamb souvlaki which was very good and the chips were nice and crispy on the outside yet soft and fluffy on the inside. Definitely worth a visit to sit and chat with friends.

Oh my golly goodness! This was the best food I've had in a long while. The service at this place is great. Our meals arrived relatively fast and the waiters were very friendly. The Lamb souvlaki was cooked perfectly. After my first bite I had to stop and collect myself.. I haven't tasted lamb seasoned so well in a while. It was DELICIOUS (tall Jan is malicious - hope someone gets the reference)!! The portion sizes were very generous so come hungry. My friend ordered the Swordfish which was a special and my oh my was it tasty. It's in the quieter part of Newtown which is great because you also don't get the pretentiousness. Also very reasonable prices. I'm coming back ASAP!

Ok so Urban bites is a fav of mine, they are consistently impressing me with their service and food. So many options and very generous portion sizes. My daughter and I went for dinner and couldn't pass up the seafood platter for 2, and at only $ 42 we felt like we were robbing them. Served with a greek salad it was So much food for 2 people we had leftovers to take home. Service A+ coffees A+ Urban Bites A+ I just cant find anything wrong with this establishment.

The lamb cutlets are fantastic! If you like the smell of lamb, you'll enjoy them very much! The fries are crisp and potato smash has wonderful rich smell like butter. The outdoor environment is relaxing, with wooden desks and plants.

To be honest, I don't enjoy very many cafes in Newtown since a lot of them just feel cramped. Urban Bites is not like that; it is spacious on the inside, and has a large patio area outside which is great for groups. I enjoyed a cappuccino on the patio and my favorite thing about it was how quiet it was. There isn't a lot of traffic on this side of King Street, so you don't hear engines revving too often. The cappuccino was around $3.50 and was pretty tasty. I have to say, I really do do think that it's the atmosphere of Urban Bites that makes it more appealing rather than its food. The vibe is just very chill and easygoing. The menu is rather ordinary, with pastas, burgers, and some mediocre ethnic food. It is cheap and reliable, just not very exciting. The service is very friendly and efficient, but there's not much more to say. It's an average, but dependable place to go for a quick lunch.

It's not so much the food that makes Urban Bites so popular, but instead the general vibe of the place. It's laid back and relaxed, making it a great place to go with friends for a drink to unwind. They have a great courtyard - heated in the winter, it's perfect for reading the papers with a coffee or hot chocolate, or in the summer you can soak up the sun and enjoy a smoothie or glass of wine. Between 4pm and 7pm it's happy hour - any alcoholic drink for $5 with each meal purchased, which is definitely worth coming for. The staff are friendly, the service is efficient, it's good value for money and very relaxed. No pretence of fine dining or 'coolness'. I wouldn't travel out of my way to eat here, but as a local place for a drink and a snack, it does the job.

I just dined on the House Salad at Urban Bites, which is right towards the front of King Street in Newtown. It was nice, but did not excite me. It is quite a nice spot there, I like the atmosphere as you can sit outside and it is not too busy as it is before you reach the Newtown madness. My salad consisted of Chicken and Avocado, always a good start, with bocconcini, lettuce and vegetables and a balsamic dressing. I just didn't find the menu choices very interesting and I thought the dressing was a little ordinary too. I liked it, I just didn't think it was special.

Went for Sunday brunch and found the coffee and food to be really good. I had poached eggs with avocado that was unfortunately very underripe and my husband had the big breakfast which was really good. Service was mixed, one waitress forgot to log our coffee order but another gave it to us free once we asked about it. They have an outdoor area which is smoking so we are inside it was pretty busy, a bit noisy but a good vibe overall.

Love this place! Put aside the amazing food, Urban bites has a great taste in music!! I love how the music cheers me up every time. My favorite dishes here are iceberg salad w/ assorted meats and chicken breast. Heaven for low carb diet ppl!!

My friends brought me here for the first time last night. The haloumi chips with aioli sauce as an entree was the best I've ever had before (i think i could've demolished it off myself haha). For main meal i had the surf and turf, the rib eye i can say I've had better, they initially forgot the grilled prawns, the chips were cold and the portion size was smaller than most places, the side salad was decent. The others i were with ordered schnitzel and burgers they weren't too happy with their meals as the meat was dried out and bland. Overall the place was pretty average.

I went for lunch with a friend and ordered the Mezze platter for two. It was about $37 and the portions were huge! The lamb souvlaki was delicious, they didn't skimp on the sauce, pita bread was freshly warmed and overall was a delicious meal. The garlic prawns we ordered as an entree were not as flavoursome as I expected, but the accompanying garlic bread was very nice - soft in the middle with a nice crust.

It comes served in these custom cups, they're kind of grainy and glazed and feel like they've been hewn out of very light sandstone by some unnamed master craftsman who will die a nobody but be recognised posthumously as one of the finest artisans of this or any age, Van Gogh style. The barista had the obligatory mustache but boy, did this dude know what service felt like. Polite, friendly, charming, without being overbearing. Win stars out of five. I've been meaning to write up a review for weeks, but struggled to choose what to write about. The menu is seasonal and changes weekly, some samples include finely cut wagyu, crusted in dukkah and served on sourdough, honey-glazed bacon with fresh avocado, and mushrooms with ricotta. Almost everything comes served with sprinklings of sprouts and greens grown on the windowsill. The menu is small but there's almost always something for everyone; however, those looking for your classic big breakfast should come prepared to settle for something a little different. The quality of coffee is not entirely consistent, but the molasses-infused sugar makes up for it. I could eat a jar of it by itself. There's also a range of sandwiches on offer. A friend recently brought home lamb-shoulder on sourdough that had me drooling. I need to be strong, three visits in one day is just too much.

The coffee is fantastic, as are the views across the new Central Park development, and weirdly the noise of the construction across the road doesn't seem to come inside. The small menu is on the spendier side, but it looked creative & wholesome. Bring a book or a notepad to write deep thoughts in.

Sebastian, the robust English chef, serves up traditional and delicious café cuisine for breakfast and lunch on weekdays and a beautiful roast for Sunday lunch. He's funny at best, though I might warn you not to sit too close to the kitchen unless you want to overhear a colorful monologue of cynicism and crude jokes. Some winning items on the menu include the "Big Salad" which changes daily and can include a delicious mixture of pumpkin, cous cous, eggplant, walnuts, raisins, and any other odds and ends the chef decides to add on the day. I recommend ordering it with poached chicken, which is as tender as can be. Another popular item is the BLT, served on Turkish bread. Careful though, it's big enough to feed your entire family of seven. If you can appreciate a good chip (or 2 dozen), Bar Mattino's are hand cut and fried to perfection. Lastly, I would highly and enthusiastically recommend the house made brownie, for which I solely blame the gain of 3 kilos. It's chocoloatey, and melty, and powered sugary and just ALL good.
