So I've heard a lot about this place, and the talk is deserving of this place. Now it is not the best coffee you will ever have, hence I would have given this place 5 stars. But the coffee is really good. I've had a few cups here and it is quite consistent. The food here is also awesome. They have a menu, but also the have specials that change every day. The staff generally suggest that choose from the special menu - and trust me listen to them. It is completely worth it. On the same line, the staff here are extremely friendly and will help you make the right choice. The cafe itself is small so if you come during the peak cafe hours you might not get a seat. But if you come outside those times it is empty and you'll be able to grab a seat.

    Brekkie time!

This little cafe is right next to a busy street and yet the rustic wood interior insulates it from the hustle and bustle outside. We were very happy with the attentive and friendly staff who greeted us as we walked into a packed cafe. The service in this place is really good. This place seem to be the go-to brunch destination for folks around here. They've got a seasonal menu that changes often (I was told). We tried the awesome smoked trout burger with avocado and beetroot. The bread was nicely toasted (crunchy but not hard) but we wish it was brought to us sooner cuz it got cold when we had it - more to do with the cold weather than anything. The food was good but a little too pricey for the portion. The chai latte was made with loose leave and brewed in honey infused milk. That was good enough to fill us and we didn't even need to have dessert. I'd caution against the coffee though. We went there as a group of 12 and were uniformly disappointed with the coffee. Maybe it was the beans they used that day. It was slightly burnt and left a bitter aftertaste. I hope they improve on the coffee quality because everything else is so good. I would come back again, but might stick to the chai latte next time.

This coffee shop is just steps away from my place so it made sense stopping there and making a ittle coffee tasting. My bf got himself a cup of flat white and I got ice latte with ice cream ( that was offered to me by the barista). I loved my cup of icy deliciousness that smoothly touched my lips with semimelted vanilla icecream and rewarded me with a hint of coffee aftertaste. The flat white was on a milky side with slightly too weak of a coffee flavour so we will probably go for something ice creamy next time we visit.

So very average. It's small....cozy you could say. Noisy and cramped would be my word choice. Staff are pretty friendly but you do get that 'hurry up and eat and get out quick' vibe. There was only 3 things on the breakfast menu. All 3 set you back the best part of $20. I chose the coconut hot cakes despite there being ice cream noted. Actual ice cream. For breakfast. It's basically dessert. It was fine. The portion size was average. Flavour was average. Presentation was attractive I guess. The coffee was bitter. This is the second bitter coffee I've had in Sydney. I'm really not a Melbourne coffee snob. I'm pretty non-discerning I confess. But it was definitely bitter. Lucky I was having a plate of sugar for breakfast to balance the flavours. So yeah. I wouldn't rate it. Sorry Sydney. You can surely do better than this.

A small, cozy and visionary local cafe, this place has creative and seasonal cuisine. You pay a bit more than your average cafe, but what you get is a beautifully plated, interesting meld of flavors. Great for brekky/brunch/lunch. Bring cash!

Wandered around Sydney for a while before stumbling on this place. Small, hipster but was a very tasty breakfast. Juice was good too.

You order at the front register, and they bring your order to you. I've only tried their hojicha latte and taro latte, but they are the best lattes (no coffee) I've ever had. They're so flavorful and rich with a fluffy foam design on top. The drink itself is smooth and creamy but not overly sweet. Hits the spot!

They've set up shop in a teeny tiny Lilliputian cottage in Kensington Lane in the new Central Park precinct. It backs onto Spice Alley and has light-filled interiors that are all white walls and light wood and it feel positively Scandinavian. Then there's the coffee. Good lord, man. It comes served in these custom cups, they're kind of grainy and glazed and feel like they've been hewn out of very light sandstone by some unnamed master craftsman who will die a nobody but be recognised posthumously as one of the finest artisans of this or any age, Van Gogh style. The barista had the obligatory mustache but boy, did this dude know what service felt like. Polite, friendly, charming, without being overbearing. Win stars out of five. Top class, thank you and goodnight.

Located next to Victoria Park and near Uni Row, I was surprised to have found this gem that the locals get to enjoy everyday. Walking in, a barista takes your order for takeaway and has you standing behind them as they make your order. There is plenty of seating inside, but those are reserved for those dining in. They have their roastery in the back, with large windows separating from the cafe. We had visited twice here and each time was a great experience. I had the opportunity to try both their Ethiopian and their Guatemalan long blacks, and the tasting notes do stand out. They have a variety of coffee beans you can purchase, along with a more limited selection of teas. Toby's Estate is a must try for all coffee aficionados in the area.

Sebastian, the robust English chef, serves up traditional and delicious café cuisine for breakfast and lunch on weekdays and a beautiful roast for Sunday lunch. He's funny at best, though I might warn you not to sit too close to the kitchen unless you want to overhear a colorful monologue of cynicism and crude jokes. Some winning items on the menu include the "Big Salad" which changes daily and can include a delicious mixture of pumpkin, cous cous, eggplant, walnuts, raisins, and any other odds and ends the chef decides to add on the day. I recommend ordering it with poached chicken, which is as tender as can be. Another popular item is the BLT, served on Turkish bread. Careful though, it's big enough to feed your entire family of seven. If you can appreciate a good chip (or 2 dozen), Bar Mattino's are hand cut and fried to perfection. Lastly, I would highly and enthusiastically recommend the house made brownie, for which I solely blame the gain of 3 kilos. It's chocoloatey, and melty, and powered sugary and just ALL good.
