I always go to Toby Carvery when want to eat a lot for a very decent price. Personally I prefer Lauriston Farm one as has a better view and seems to be a little bit tidier. My first visit there ended with a stomach flue. We found out that ice cream caused that as this was the only common thing that myself and other friend who also got this flue ate there. All other friends were OK. Food nice and hot. If you don't plan to eat ice cream I would recommend this place. read more

Oh my, what a feast!!! I visited this branch yesterday around 17h00, went for the Famous Four Roast Carvery, and as I was starving, I chose the King size (only £10.49 for extra meat, an extra Yorkshire pudding and add two chipolata sausages), and then chose all four types of roast they have: Honey & Mustard glazed Gammon, Succulent British Turkey, Beef lightly glazed with Tewkesbury mustard, and Apple, honey & cider glazed Pork with crackling!! And then you can choose whatever sides you want!! You could choose any combination of meats you like, no need to have all of them. No space for dessert I'm afraid, I did notice though that they didn't have my favourite sticky toffee pudding, so that was definitely a miss for me... If you're a meat fun, you definitely need to try this place at some point!! You will be delighted!! read more

Love this place! Yes, it's the UK version of an Old Country Buffet but it's awesome food. There's one across the street from the flat we stay at while in Edinburgh and we usually wind up having dinner here at least once per visit. R's sister and her boyfriend, whose flat it is that we stay at while in Edinburgh really like it here so we usually take them here for dinner as a way of sayings thanks for putting us up. My only complaint is that I think they skimp on the meat, but the veggie side options are a delicious way to fill up. I had my first Yorkshire pudding (surprising it took me so long to have one considering how often I'm in the UK) when we were last over in October and I loved it! We always wind up ordering dessert and it's always struggle to get it down but it's a wonderful way to end your meal! We're headed back to Bonnie Scotland in exactly 7 days and I'm excited that a trip to the carvery is on the agenda! P.S. Tennants on draught. Yesssss! read more

Food was pretty good but it's certainly not a buffet as the signs suggest. The waitress failed to mention the meats were not included in the buffet which would be the whole point of going to a Sunday roast buffet. There are also no signs specifying this. When I mentioned to the waitress we weren't informed of this and surprised by the exclusion, they replied someone should have told us and then failed to rectify the misunderstanding. I would not recommend to anyone and this restaurant left a bitter taste in my mouth. read more

Toby Carvery is the great British meat eaters wet dream. The main idea with this restaurant is the roast dinner buffet. This means you get a plate, the nice chef man carves some meat (Gammon, Beef, Turkey, Ham etc) onto your plate with a Yorkshire pudding or two. Then you shuffle along and help yourself to as much veg as your heart desires. Then there is different gravy's and sauces to finish it all off. Its a great idea and it will definitely fill you up. For this reason I haven't sampled the starters or desserts because I usually end up being rolled out the place. But the sundaes for dessert do look delicious. It is a really family friendly place, so bring everyone along and enjoy a nice meal. It does get rather busy, especially on Sundays. read more

There used to be Toby Carvery restaurants in practically every city, but since the late 90s, the British diet has moved away from the traditional Sunday roast to things like sushi, hummus and noodles drowned in sickly sweet chilli sauce. The traditional roast may be gasping for air these days, but the Toby on the way to Corstorphine manages to at least keep it on life support. Big slices of gammon, pork, turkey or beef, Yorkshire puddings, and vegetables piled high. My dislike of gravy prevents me from getting the full experience, but I do not bad by dowsing the meat in salt instead. The surroundings feel a bit tired and to some extent, borderline depressing, but full marks for providing a carnivorous feast of a style so rarely found in modern restaurants. read more

Excellent value for money considering the size of food portions you get/give yourself and the price of alcohol (I know it's part of a chain and so that makes some difference to purchasing power in that regard but managing to be £1.55 cheaper for Tennent's, let alone imported lagers, is still no mean feat). Service definitely comes with a smile and I second the cleanliness of the place noted by an earlier reviewer. Well worth the 15 minute bus trip from the centre of town either as an end in itself or as a cheap and pleasant start to a longer session. read more

I came here for the all you can eat breakfast buffet. It was a very sad and uninspiring buffet. For the price you can get a much better full breakfast elsewhere in Corstorphine. I figure the breakfast buffet will probably only be appealing if you have a massive hangover and need to eat your body weight in bacon. Otherwise, it is definitely a very "meh" experience. I was expecting a continental as well as cooked breakfast option. But no, you get toast and jam and hot breakfast items only. When I rocked up they didn't even have link sausages and there was no marginally fancy breakfast items like cooked tomatoes, haggis or black pudding, lorne sausage or a morning roll. Won't be back! If I'm going to pay almost a fiver to a chain, I'll make it the White Lady. read more

I wouldn't come back here. The service was awkward and abrupt (we were asked to pay upon arriving, before we even took our seats). There were small niggles (I ordered fresh orange juice and was given orange soda). But the main reason for the low vote was the quality of the food. The food was soaked in vegetable oil. The sausages and eggs tasted stale because of the rancid oil (veg oil goes rancid very quickly on contact with the air). The Yorkshire puddings, for reasons I cannot fathom, were filled with the same rancid oil inside--like little pools. All this said, the carvery meat was cooked to perfection and tasted great. But, altogether, it was a disappointing and unpleasant experience. This chain would be much better if they hiked up their prices a little and focussed on the quality of the food and experience. read more

Visited for 3 nights in a row and one morning for breakfast. Fantastic food and fantastic service. Abby our kids "brand new best friend' made sure we had great service. Stayed in the Holiday Inn close by which has Thai food, wanted a bit more local and a Yorkshire pudding. My kids served themselves vegetables and eat them! maybe that is the key. Perfect Food, Perfect Place and Perfect Price. Never heard of Toby's Carvey's before, will look out for it again. I need to confess, I'm not a carvery kinda guy...at least I never used to be. That is until I experienced the Toby Carvery. Greeted at the bar by a very friendly publican, escorted to a table by an enthusiastic waitress and presented with the various options available to us for our meal, namely pub a la carte or of course, carvery. Carvery was the name of the game that night and we were presented with roast beef, turkey and gammon and as much roast and steamed veggies, Yorkshire pudding and gravy you could assemble on your plate. The meat was not dry and tough as feared, but juicy and delicious and accompaniments up to scratch. If critical the chef carving the meat could gave been a little less frugal with his slicing, but hey, I'm a guy and would of course prefer my plate to be 80% meat and 20% rabbit food! As far as carvery's go, this one is a winner! read more

For Scottish food I guess this place was alright. I enjoyed their buffet, mix of meats, vegetables, and fried things I've long since forgotten. I have to say it tasted quite well. The setting was just like an old fashion US restaurant chain, but with a lot more beer everywhere. Before I forget the beer selection was great and you get a big bang for your pound if I remember correctly. If you're ever next to one and hungry, swing by and check them out. Oh on a separate note the Scottish are very friendly people if you can understand what in the hell they're trying to say. read more

Me and my family arent a 'Sunday Roast' type of family. We would rather sit around and eat something a bit different, or Toby Cavery however, is somewhere that I could eat a sunday roast any day of the week - and I'm sure many people do. I'm not going to explain the whole process again, because I'm sure you have read it in all of the other reviews - but instead I'm going to focus upon what the actual food is like. The meat is always brilliantly cooked, and while you cant go back for more meat, you do get a decent sized portion. You can go back for as many vegetables as you want - and they are all pretty decent - not maybe the best tasting vegetables I have ever tasted, but nice enough. The sweets (if you can fit one in afterwards) are pretty decent as well - although I have never actually finished on. A case of my eyes being bigger than my stomach I feel. The pubs themselves are a bit dark and old mannish, but for what they do they are decent enough and cheap. Excellent really. read more

I had went to Tobys Carvery about a month ago, and Yes I thought it was value for money ( but the meat portion size was a little ...skimpy, while they let you fill yourself up on less expensive items) I found the staff had to be prompted to take our drink order and to clear away our table, and did not display a happy and friendly attitude. read more

one of the only places i know of in Edinburgh that do a great carvery. no need to book and you are usually guaranteed a table with not too much of a wait. the food is always hot, fresh and plentiful and you can help yourself to how every much or little you want and can even return for seconds. There is also an extensive menu if you dont wish the carvery. i have enjoyed many a great lunch here with friends and family and we all enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. There are high chairs for babies and plenty of room if you need to take a buggy into the restaurant as the tables are not all squashed together. although the main course is self service, the staff who take your drink, starter and sweet order are all very pleasant and efficient. If you are looking for good quality food at very reasonbable prices then look no further...You can literally eat as much as you like at the carvery and the meat is delicious. If you are in a rush it is also ideal as you can literally run in, grab some grub and go, ideal at lunchtime. The interior is pretty basic but spotlessly clean...Great for you carnivores out there and the yorkshire puddings are great. Also a good dessert menu and drinks are pretty reasonably priced, great for Edinburgh. read more

I used to really like this place - quick, easy, reasonably priced. However, I think the the food quality has gone down in recent years and the prices are going up so it is less value for money - especially on a Sunday. Roast potatoes are soggy and the vegetables are always far too hard. Probably won't go back. read more

I'm giving full marks as I'm a veggie and I love it (obviously minus the meat). So I presume the meat is fabby too. Great atmosphere.
