They do beer cocktails yay. We tried a tequila based sangria style one and a beery take on a Moscow mule. Both were really tasty. They have a huge range of draft and craft beers and do bottles with chaser shots a personal fav was the Aussie bundy rum with my beer! Bar snacks are on to keep you going but not full meals yet, though you could always head up to Steak if you're peckish.

Anyhow the OH persuaded me to give it a shot for a quick drink to shelter from the rain whilst we deliberated on a venue for dinner. I'm glad he did. In addition to a decent selection of craft beers, there's a hefty cocktail menu. I tried the Ginger Tom Collins & it hit the spot. Just the right amount of ginger to pack a punch but not enough to be overpowering. The OH had a pint of draft beer & seemed happy enough. The low ceiling means it gets noisy even if it's not packed. There was a stag do, 2 birthday parties and hen group as well as some other folks. It was only just possible to hold a convo at normal volume & be heard. There's a decent sized courtyard out the back too but it was too wet & cold to try it out. I'd definitely visit again but maybe on a week night when it might be a little less noisy.

Wetherspoons has a reputation in the UK ranging from great to terrible. I had never been in one…read moreuntil my recent trip to Edinburgh brought me to The Caley Picture House. That Wetherspoons took over an old theater that started out as a silent picture venue in 1923 and later turned into a music venue (where notable acts like Queen, Pink Floyd, and The Smiths had played) really intrigued me! When I told my husband that Wetherspoons is known for their cheap meals and beer, he was all in! The Caley Picture House did not disappoint. What a cool, gorgeous place! We found a table and ordered our meals from their app, and they were delivered a short time later! They have meal deals which include drinks (you pay just a little more to include alcoholic drinks). My husband had their ramen and I had a jacket potato with roasted veggies. I had a delicious cider with mine and my husband had an IPA. We so enjoyed the experience that I took out my phone and ordered ice cream for dessert. We took note of the breakfast menu and came back the next morning to check it out. We both had inexpensive egg and English muffin sandwiches that came with unlimited coffee (a serve yourself espresso machine that included mochas). Really good! The Caley Picture House is fabulous! We told our son he needs to check it out and bring friends. This place is enjoyed by the young and old and everyone in between. We'll be back the next time we are in town!

Bruntsfield, The Meadows

5-Star Review for The Golf Tavern, Edinburgh If you're…read morelooking for an authentic slice of Edinburgh history wrapped in warm Scottish hospitality, The Golf Tavern is an absolute gem. Nestled on the edge of the historic Bruntsfield Links (the world's oldest short-hole golf course), this legendary pub dates back to 1456 and still feels like stepping into a cozy chapter of Scotland's past--complete with that perfect mix of character, charm, and lively atmosphere. As travelers passing through Edinburgh, we were immediately welcomed by the incredibly friendly and considerate staff. They made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in, going out of their way to accommodate our jet-lagged requests and offering great recommendations on local beers and whiskies. Special shout-out to bartender Miles, who was absolutely amazing--his energy, knowledge, and genuine warmth turned our visit into something truly memorable. He crafted perfect pints, shared stories about the pub's incredible history, and just made the whole experience feel special. It's bittersweet knowing Miles is leaving today, but the good news is that the rest of the team is equally fantastic and more than capable of keeping that same welcoming spirit alive. You're definitely in excellent hands with the other staffers! The pub itself is beautiful--traditional yet comfortable, with views overlooking the links and Arthur's Seat in the distance. Whether you're here for a pint after a round of pitch-and-putt, watching a match, or just soaking up the vibe, it delivers on every level. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in Edinburgh. This place isn't just a pub--it's a proper Scottish experience. We'll be back next time we're in town! 5/5 - Worth every star! ‍ Here are a few glimpses of the cozy, historic interior that perfectly captures the welcoming atmosphere: 0 "LARGE" 1 "LARGE" 4 "LARGE" And a classic Scottish pub vibe with a proper pint: 5 "LARGE"

We ordered some frickles (fried pickles) - they are spears, not chips and are delicious. The Margherita pizza had delicious sauce, but the crust was pretty limp (see photo). Great place to have a few beers with the boys. Don't sit anywhere near the toilets, there's a constant stream of people going by.
