My husband and I have been wandering looking for our next great breakfast spot since the purple place closed years ago. Today we found promise through toasted rooster. I got the cinnamon roll French toast and the crispness was perfection. My husband got the chorizo breakfast burrito with country potatoes which he said was excellent. My only suggestion for the restaurant: I can't find anywhere on the menu that lists the breakfast meat choices. We will be back based on the amazing waitress and the quality of the food. read more

We were so excited when a Toasted Rooster location opened closer to us! The original location is our favorite breakfast spot, and we always make a point of taking our out-of-town guests there. Unfortunately, after visiting the new location twice, the food just hasn't compared. The quality and flavors seem noticeably different from what we've come to know and love at the original restaurant. We're hoping these are simply temporary growing pains as the new location gets established, because we would genuinely love to make this our new go-to spot. For now, though, we'll probably continue making the trip to the original location. read more

Unfortunately, our first experience at this new breakfast restaurant was a major disappointment, and it had almost entirely to do with the customer service. We waited over an hour for our food, and during that entire time, our server never once checked on our table. Our coffees went cold, our drinks were never refilled, and she repeatedly walked past our table without acknowledging us. There was no apology, no check-in, and honestly, no indication that she was interested in whether we were having a good experience. We overheard from a table behind us they were also out of biscuits, and none of the specialty coffees were available (did not mention that to us when taking our order), which was already disappointing for a breakfast spot. When we finally stopped our waitress ourselves to ask for an estimate on our food, she told us, "Hun, it's a holiday. I can't give you a real time. Maybe 15 minutes." We waited another 30 minutes, and she continued walking by our table without checking in or giving us any update. I completely understand that holidays can be busy and that restaurants can get overwhelmed. What I don't understand is the complete lack of communication or basic customer service. When we're paying nearly $20 for a breakfast burrito and $20 for an omelette, I think it's reasonable to expect timely communication, drink refills, and at least some interaction from our server. The food may very well be worth coming back for, so I may give this place another shot. However, with prices like these, I would probably choose to come during the middle of the week when it's less crowded and hopefully the food can come out within a reasonable amount of time. Hopefully this was just an off day, because the restaurant has potential; but the customer service definitely needs some work. read more

Yummy!! All the food was delicious and the service was great. We got breakfast tacos and a scramble- both amazing. We also got the mimosa flight which had glitter and souvenirs! Love the alien themes stuff!! The place is super nice inside with lots of new booth seating, spacious, and so cozy. I think this will be our new go to spot. read more

A new breakfast champion! Awesome loaded grits, a delicious full meal. The bohemian skillet with shredded steak was excellent, a real full-size tater fest. 70-80's music and great (happy!) staff. First time here since Toasted Rooster opened. Pleasantly surprised by the quality of both the food and mimosas! A couple of the reviews had me second guessing coming in. It's a family run business and they all seem happy and have an energetic vibe. Although it seemed the staff is still working out the table sections/coverage, they still managed to come around often making sure all the tables had everything we all needed. The mimosas were excellent!! Like best ones we've had around. They told us that they change up the theme of the mimosa menus, these were alien themed lol. The food was delicious. We tried the bohemian eggsody and one of us got the strip steak and one got shredded with over medium eggs and they were both eggselent!! so very flavorful. We will definitely order them again. One got a burger that was good, nothing spectacular but still a solid burger for sure. Kids got choc chip pancakes that were a hit and another got the cinnamon roll French toast made from an actual cinnamon roll and it was like dessert for breakfast so very good. read more

I love me some eggs Benedict! If you can make good hollandaise sauce then everything is usually good. However, I will say just because I have had better hollandaise doesn't mean this place wasn't amazing. I ordered the "Chickie Chickie Breakfast," eggs poached medium, crispy home fries, sausage patty, and sourdough toast.( I would have chosen Turkey sausage had I seen it! to be fair I should have asked, no worries). The eggs were cooked to perfection, the sausage was okay, I wish the home fries had more and a little bigger pieces of the peppers and onions. I saved the best part for last, the energy in this place is so inviting and fun. Everyone working was smiling and had the appearance of really having fun and liking their jobs. Ambiance was fine. Cute decor- pretty open seating area with a room in back for larger parties called "The Coop". Service was not good. We made a reservation on their website and when we told the person that was seating us they had no idea what we were talking about - apparently reservations are not usual. It was a holiday and the place was full so they wound up seating us in "The Coop". We were then told by or server that they didn't expect the crowd due to the holiday so while she could take our order she couldn't put the order in because there was a "hold" on tickets due to the high volume. Long story short it took over an hour to be served. The menu reads well with lots of options but we were underwhelmed once we finally got our food which we all agreed lacked flavor. Hopefully it's still "learning curve" and things will improve with time, although we won't be back any time soon. read more

The whole experience was terrible. The service was non existent. There was 3 employees and zero management presence. We ended up leaving and the server was so rude. We wrote to the company with no response. The main server was recognizable from Ashlee's down the street and she's just as rude here as she was there not a good way to start a new business in a good neighborhood. So unfortunate because we were so looking forward to this business opening for so many reasons hopefully they make some changes for the better. read more

Yay! So glad there's a Toasted Rooster near Fair Oaks. We came on a Saturday morning, were enthusiastically greeted and quickly seated. HB had the BLT with avocado; he's a BLT snob and said these were some of the best. I had the Coyote Eggly tacos, for which our server. Tasha, swapped the meat for avocado. We can give this new location an A for effort. They get an F- for the overall experience. We really wanted to support this new breakfast location, but the only positive we can say is that our breakfast of eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast came out nice and hot. OH, but do we have questions: 1. Aren't there labor laws? We honestly wondered. A cute little girl--she couldn't have been more than 12 years old--was seating customers and clearing tables. Our waiter looked to be about 14. If they are of legal working age, they certainly looked much younger, which left us questioning what we were seeing. 2.Do they know how to clean more than just the tabletop? The booth seats may have been wiped down, but the top edges of the booths and the dividers between side-by-side booths were splattered with dried food. Cleanliness should include the entire dining area, not just the obvious surfaces. 3. Why did it take so long? The restaurant wasn't packed, yet the wait for service was painfully slow--from being seated to ordering to finally receiving our food. Hot food is appreciated, but the lengthy wait made the experience frustrating. 4. Who thought a broken sprinkler was okay? The sprinkler at the entrance was spraying water directly across the sidewalk. It created a slippery hazard before we even made it inside. Someone could easily slip and fall. This should be fixed immediately. 5. Paper towel rolls instead of napkins? We were surprised to find an entire roll of paper towels sitting on the table instead of napkins. If this was meant to be rustic, it missed the mark and gave the dining room an unfinished feel. We would rather have napkins and coaster. 6. Lastly and most important of all.......Should employees be talking about their former employer to customers? One staff member, who told nearby diners they had come from the restaurant across the street, spent time discussing their previous workplace in a negative light instead of focusing on the customers in front of them. It was highly unprofessional and not something diners should have to listen to. Straight up tacky! We truly hope this restaurant succeeds because our community can always use another good breakfast spot. However, opening a new business means paying attention to cleanliness, safety, professionalism, and customer service--not just serving hot food. We hope these issues are addressed because, in its current state, we won't be returning anytime soon. read more

Tried them out 2 weeks ago and wanted to leave a good review. It's great to have a place like this in Orangevale. Modern & clean restaurant with friendly service and good food. Anyone who leaves a poor review is likely an OV long timer who doesn't like new things coming to the Area. My 3 teenage sons + my brother and his teenage son from out of state all enjoyed our meals. I also like their private / party room and plan to use it for future business meetings. My only critique for now is that they don't have an espresso bar. I would love to be able to have an espresso with my meal next time I'm in. read more

Parking lots had a lot of small rocks easy to stumble on. The front door glass was filthy and they used an dirty rag to prop the inside door open. The service was cheerful and the food was good. One thing I really like is the jam which, while made by Smuckers, is not the Smucker-branded jam with high fructose corn syrup (which I loathe). The ketchup is also organic with no high fructose corn syrup (just like what they sell at Trader Joes). BTW, that other place across the street isn't bad either, but the HFCS is a dealbreaker for me. The Ghiradelli hot chocolate was good...and a good value since they gave me a free refill. Fun are the catchy (and sometimes daring) names of the dishes they serve (my guess the toasted rooster mascot is a bit crazy from heat stroke lol). Mason jar as a water glass fits right into the farmhouse schtick. While the 1-star review I read was overly harsh and nitpicking IMHO, I do agree that the roll of paper towels has an inherent problem--people may touch the sheets they are not tearing off when they help themselves. I hate not having napkins handy, so maybe a vertical dispensing paper towel dispenser where people only touch what they take?...or one of those dispensers that spit out the towel when you wave at it? Isn't everybody paranoid of cooties after Covid? The bill ended with 38 cents. My change included only dollar bills which was off a few dollars. When I mentioned it, the waitress brought back 4 dollars more ("I pressed the wrong button"), but no change. While many or most businesses have stopped dealing with pennies, this "nearest dollar" approach (vs "nearest nickel") caught me by surprise. No problem, I just suggest that they advise such or, if they already did, make it more obvious. I appreciate that this establishment isn't afraid to be a little different, try new things and that the staff aren't a bunch of corporate stiffs. I'll be back. read more

We were looking forward to visiting this breakfast place that took over the old Denny's Orangevale location. Came away experiencing hits and misses. Here's our honest take. Pros: -Servers were friendly - Eggs and hash browns were cooking properly. - Eggs Benedict/hollandaise was well prepared. - Atmosphere was good/typical breakfast place. Cons: - Portion size to value not great. - attention to detail not great on this occasion. - Served burnt toast - The bacon is terrible. Undercooked thin and smaller than what you'd get on a McDonald breakfast muffin. - The country potatoes are terrible, if you call them country potatoes. Deep fried potato nuggets. When we ordered, the server informed us that it includes onions and bell peppers (which is normal). What arrived was oil soaked fried potato nuggets sprinkled with a few raw onion pieces and not one piece bell pepper in sight. - Some plates were small and square in shape like the food tray you'd get on an airplane. - Menus were filthy. Would recommend cleaning the plastic menus thoroughly since they can get sticky with the maple syrup dispenser on the table. All in all, on our initial visit, there doesn't seem to be any improvement from Denny's. There are other breakfast places that we'd prefer for the quality and value. read more

We had breakfast at the new Toasted Rooster this morning and we throughly enjoyed it. The food was great: love the presentation and the taste. Perfectly prepared. The service was awesome - there is a reason Maria Contraus keeps winning "best server" in Orangevale. Plenty of coffee refills. Great follow up with us to make sure we had everything we needed. Love how they've remodeled! Immediately had our drink order taken. I couldn't decide on a mimosa so I went with the flight. I highly recommend that option because all three flavors were delicious. My friend had the banana walnut pancakes (huge serving) and they were great. I had the mini chicken fried steak. It was cooked perfectly crispy along with my hash browns (just how I ordered them).
