Standard cafe, but with so much eclectic choice in Surry Hills, I guess I expect more in ambiance and quirkiness. Coffees were average, albeit the large coffees were served in huge mugs.
The Eggy Benny comes with eggs, toast and hollandaise- that's it. If you want ham, salmon or spinach, be prepared to pay for the privilege. The price of the dish is only $13.50, but hikes up to $17.50 with the addition of ingredients (like ham) which are actually PART of the original dish itself. No me gusta. I ordered the meal sans extras, and it was actually pretty good- hollandaise was above average.
BF had the Moroccan breakfast, consisting of poached eggs, a little bit of sauteed spinach, a few tiny garlic lemon potatoes, hummus, and flatbread sprinkled with dukkah. He (and I after scrounging a few bites) found the meal tasty, but for $17 thought there was just nothing spectacular about it.
However our Canadian waitress was lovely and chatty and the rest of the staff appears as friendly and smiley as she was.
This place seems like it's a "safe" bet for breakfast, where you'd take your parents to when they visit for the weekend. If that's the type of joint you're after, this is the spot for you. read more
