Having stayed at Hyatt Regency Lost Pines near Bastrop for work meetings, I found the two properties very similar in style and layout. The outdoor area here seemed larger, with more pools, spaces, and activities, but overall the resorts offer a similar Texas Hill Country vibe. Pricing can vary dramatically depending on the weekend and local events, so it is worth checking carefully. I have seen rooms listed for around $1,000 per night, which feels excessive. Fortunately, my conference rate was a little over $200. I had planned to self-park, but when I arrived on Friday afternoon, valet was the only option available. It cost around $40. My room had two queen beds and was spacious, fresh, and very clean. I especially enjoyed the balcony view, the in-room coffee maker, and the spotless bathroom. Even the soap smelled great. Overall, I would stay here again, especially for a work event. It could also be a nice option for a quick staycation or local getaway. Whether it is worth it really depends on the room rate, so compare dates before booking.

That alone tells you how popular this place is, and now I can see why! We had an absolute blast as a family! My children did NOT want to leave. They spent hours playing in the lazy river, and they especially loved the water slide, going down it over and over again! There's also a restaurant on-site where you can order food, which is super convenient when the kids work up an appetite. The inner tubes are included with your pass, but make sure to bring your own towels! Another big plus for me was how clean the restrooms were. I felt comfortable taking my children in there and changing them, which is always important when visiting places like this. Now I completely understand why this location is so popular! We made some great family memories, and we will DEFINITELY be back! If you're looking for a fun family outing, this one is worth checking out!

My wife expects 5 star resorts and she said this place exceeded the typical 5 star experience. The bedding, linens, amenities were awesome. They had live music and great food and drink options at the head cabin. Every cabin felt private and unique and the babbling creek and ponds along the Creekside were so relaxing to sit by with lots of Adirondack chairs overlooking the creek and rocking chairs on the cabin porches. We also chose this place because they allowed my Australian Shepard to come (only some cabins). The whole experience was amazing and only a 5 minute drive to the main strip. Don't miss a tour of Signor Vineyards, a 10 minute drive West. The most beautiful vineyard and cool experience!

I understand that the cabins are old, and authentic but it would help a little. I would also recommend a little better dusting, around window sills, and windows/curtains, a fair amount of dust that came off, every time we closed the blinds or pulled the curtains. That is the only reason I rated it a 4 instead of 5.

When we were first sat, it was next to a bush that had so many bees. We asked a server to move but she stated all daybeds were taken (despite some being empty through our stay). We asked a second server our request again because we were unable to even sit on the daybed without bees swarming on us. This second server was able to move us with no issues. Upon arrival there were no towels, we had to ask multiple times before we received any. The food was served quickly thankfully and was pretty good- as well as our drinks. We ordered a pina colada and gin based drink. Both were good but it was way too hot to drink how we wanted. The turkey sandwich, guacamole and chips, and chicken tenders were also good and pretty standard. There was a separate adult pool on the lower deck that was a lot quieter than the general pool (and no kids) with better music. We know for next time to just order chairs here. Ending the night, it took at least 25 minutes for our final receipt to be given. I had to approach the bar area twice to ask what was going on. There seemed to be confusion on our pool tab and how to close our Resort Pass. Spending over $300, the experience could've been a lot better with quicker service. It was also hard to follow who was our server as we were greeted by 4-5 people through our time. I would consider coming here on a calmer day out of season if looking for a more relaxing experience. Plus to seeing the fireworks while leaving. The pools were a lot more enjoyable once the sun began to set which was around 7 (our stay was from 4-9).

The first time at the Mayan ranch I had just graduated 8 th grade and went with my parents and siblings. Best family vacation ever. I vowed to return one day. Fast forward 34 years and I went back this week for a girls trip with my sister in law, her 2 tweens and my youngest daughter, who is also a tween. The Hicks family has owned this ranch for over 60 years. It is so refreshing to go somewhere where almost every staff member has grown up on the ranch and have such passion for ensuring guests have a good time. Most other ranches are now run by large corporations and lack the family owned charm of this place. The staff are great . Shoutout to Cowgirl Kel who is the heart and soul of this place and makes sure the kids have a good time ( games and activities scattered throughout the day during the summer months). Things you must know and be OK with to come here: If you are a high maintenance person who won't be happy unless there are high end accommodations you will struggle here . Most of the facility is pretty rustic. The tennis court, basketball count and volley ball court look like they haven't been used in years. That said , the cabins are spacious and functional. Nothing fancy but adequate and the beds are comfortable. Housekeeping is pretty minimal but they will come on occasion to bring new towels and make the bed. The pool has been refurbished and is beautiful and was wonderfully refreshing each afternoon to cool off from the hot Texas sun. Horse Back Riding : The horses are beautiful, healthy and seem well taken care of. The rides are perfect for absolute beginners as the only option for riding is a slow walk in single file line. If your kids are experienced horse riders you may want to consider a different ranch as you won't be able to do anything but walk in a line here. That said, my 11 year old, who is an experienced rider, didn't mind much and loved helping to care for the horses and loved her rides with her cousins who are less experienced riders ( her favorite horses were Sheriff, Cinco and Jamison and I loved Faith and Sherriff) . Ruger the horse is a bit of a scatter brained horse but really all the horses are quite sweet and well behaved . While you aren't assigned a horse for your stay here, you can request your favorite horse each ride ( tip - get to the stables about 15-20 min before your ride to do this ) Tip - come to the ranch with kids over the age of 6 only. Kids under 6 are not allowed to do the trail rides ( due to insurance reasons they are strict about this ). The ideal ages for kids at this ranch are 6-11 years old in my opinion. Not much to do for teens at this ranch. Food : I'd rate the food an A plus. For real. Lots of options satisfied even the pickiest eater of our crew. Don't come her if you have allergies as they can't accommodate. Most meals consist of meat/ or chicken served with some many delicious sides that a vegetarian would still find enough options to be happy. Lunches were surprisingly varied in the main dining hall ( e.g. Mexican food one day, Italian one day, deli one day ) and you can always opt for a hamburger/hotdog instead at the Pavilion. All meals served family style/cafeteria style where you go through a line and select your food. Cost /Value: This place is incredibly fairly priced. Adults pay 190$ a night and kids only 80$ a night which includes 3 meals and snacks per day, 2 horse rides daily , spacious lodging and fun activities/ entertainment throughout the day. Tips: Bring your own beach towels for the pool ( they don't provide them) Bring a flashlight ( you'll want it waking to your cabin after the night activities) Bring your own hand sanitizer and carry it around . We used it. a lot. If you have very young kids or elderly people in your group bring a car to the ranch as while the place is 100 percent walkable, there are times it's nice to drive to certain parts of the ranch especially in the sweltering sun. Uber will go to the ranch from San Antonio but won't bring you back. There are private ride services but they are waaaay expensive so it's just a better value to rent a car if coming from San Antonio Wear a cowboy hat to bingo on Sunday nights - trust me - you will thank me later :) Bring jeans but if it's summer pack more shorts than jeans as the kids will ditch the jeans ( I ditched my jeans day 2) and wilwant to ride with shorts as it is HOT here if you come in the summer months ( you are allowed to ride wearing any clothing except fof a wet bathing suit and cowboy boots aren't required either - I'd skip them if you don't already own them and skip them personally even if you do as they just aren't needed for this type of riding. Highly recommend !!!

Food - La Cascada wasn't bad, but the menu selection was limited, and we had flies buzzing around while trying to eat, which wasn't great. Staff - Genuinely friendly and helpful, no complaints there. Facilities - A lot of the amenities were closed during our stay. The gym was open but pretty mediocre, basically on par with a standard hotel gym rather than a resort. And the golf course itself is closed until further notice, which was a huge letdown given that's supposed to be a main draw here. Vibe - It was dead when we visited (mid-July), and nothing much was really planned or going on for guests. It also felt like members got a bit more priority/attention around the course and events than resort guests did. Overall - Between the outdated rooms, small pools, limited facilities, and the course being closed, I wouldn't really recommend this for young couples looking for a lively getaway. Might work better for a quiet, low-key trip if you go in with low expectations.

This year's water level is historically low (since the 1960s), so direct swimming access to the water is nearly impossible. Boat ramp closed. However, the view is still spectacular. We also appreciate the grill spots -- we saw previous complaints about the grills -- honestly, we don't quite understand why they are being so picky with the public grill spots lol... I can tell they have tried their best to manage/clean. A/C works well, especially at night! Not much noise created. All the fire pits were upgraded and well-maintained. Some things to be careful with: 1/ Some weeds in the grass can be sticky and painful to pick off. Be careful walking in grass near the cabins (wear water shoes). 2/ Some dogs may be reactive to people/other dogs (barking). But everyone was very respectful. 3/ Didn't try the swimming pool; it looks a little muddy. 4/ Coffee station not working well. We noticed from others' reviews and brought our own coffee boiling pot with pour makers. They also didn't provide milk/coffee mate. 5/ Pillows are not quite comfortable.

Upon arrival, there was no clear office or designated check-in area. I asked several guests attending a loud wedding at the back of the property for assistance, but nobody could tell me where to check in. I called once and no answer. After spending approximately 15 minutes walking around the property trying to figure out how to access my booking, I called the phone number provided in the booking confirmation again atound 9:11 PM. I did not receive the check-in instructions by text until 9:29 PM--far too late, after I had already left and been forced to make other arrangements. I emailed management to explain the situation and request a refund, but their response was disappointing and unhelpful. Given the complete lack of timely communication, clear check-in instructions, and reasonable customer service, this was an incredibly frustrating experience. **If a guest drives an hour to your property, they should not have to spend their evening wandering around trying to figure out how to check in.** Basic communication and a functional check-in process are the bare minimum expected from any lodging provider. Since I was unable to access the property as needed, I will be disputing the charge with my credit card company. I would strongly recommend reconsidering this property until management makes significant improvements to its check-in process and customer service.
