[The front office did provide water jugs.] The water did stay on for more than 1 hour, only issue is the water pressure will go down a little bit. The cabin my family and I stayed at is "Lone-star". It is an amazing cabin, very big on the inside. Very clean, and organized. Every room in the house was perfect. I would say it fits 13people in there, but everybody had their own bed, and shower. There is no wifi which is not good, since they offer cable tv so it should've came with it in my opinion. Our neighbors were very friendly, great place! Overall we had the best time and loved the cabin... might go back this coming weekend again

If you want to go "off the grid," it's perfect. They do have internet in the cabins but no tv - and only minimal cell reception is with AT&T. But this place makes it so easy to forget the rest of the world & simply relax! If you have a small family, the one bedroom smaller cabins are ideal, which is where we stayed the first time. This time we stayed with another couple in one of the two bedroom cabins & had plenty of space with 4 adults & 3 kids. Tell Butch the Disney's sent you! :)

Utopia is a tiny little town and Sabinal River Lodge is at the edge. It is a minute drive to town where you'll find a few small cafes and other service stores. The Sabinal River Lodge itself is homey and rustic. It was an enjoyable stay for us. The room we had was spacious with two comfortable queen beds, a small kitchenette and a 4-person table with chairs. It seemed pretty newly refurbished. Everything worked well. They have very basic things in the kitchenette, so don't expect to cook much other than microwaving or using a small pan on the stove. There is no oven and there were no pots. I liked that they provided a new sponge and dish soap though! The fridge is also mini size. But if you're not planning on cooking much, all of this shouldn't be a problem. The cafes in town actually serve food that is affordable and delicious. Apart from sleeping, we didn't really get to spend time at the lodge to enjoy the view from the patio in the back or the outside area. We saw several deer on the property at night, but I'm sure there are other critters to see around, too. The room rate was $135 per night and the check in/out process was easy. The people we interacted with were friendly and because it is a small place, it felt very familial. If you ever find yourself in Utopia, I'd recommend this place to stay!

It's right on the Sabinal River, and is a many-generational family-owned business. Clean, comfortable, great beds, and country stylish, the folks that run the place aim to please and enjoy serving their guests. Brandi is sharp, charming and truly cares. First day we made ourselves some coffee, and relaxed from travel by spending the morning sitting on the deck, watching the hummingbirds and cardinals at the feeders, and a variety of other birds flitting through the trees. Peaceful. One in our group made a point to swim by the dam in the river a couple of times, and enjoyed speaking with some of the folks who were fishing. The kitchens are well-outfitted, and the rooms have dining tables for comfortable eating, or card and board games! There's also a pool table and a barbecue, which we made good use of. A lot of care has been put into creating a comfortable relaxed environment. Highly recommended. A worthy place to get away from routine. Feels like home.

The pool has a sun tanning ledge if you don't want to spend all your time in the shade. Each cabin has a fire pit and a s'more kit is provided. I would recommend cooking dinner at the cabin as most restaurants are only open for breakfast or lunch, but we did visit on the off season. The closest full size grocery store is in Uvalde, so plan accordingly. Also cell service on verizon doesn't work in this area, but free wifi is provided.

My bestie and I planned a little getaway and wanted to experience a new river, as we live in the DFW area. Let me start with the access to the river is wonderful, plant your chair and relax. There is a small natural pool area as well. You access the river via a stairway or where the land slopes down to the rivers's edge. This part of the river is stunning, and shaded. These cabins are well suited for families and spending all day in the river to return to a place to cook, relax, and rest. The cabins are nice in a basic way, and comfortable. They and provide cookware, coffee pot, microwave, dish soap, kitchen towels, and a fridge. Pro tip - Ensure you bring paper towels, paper plates, trash bags if you are a large family, coffee, and all of your food essentials because Walmart is 45 minutes away in Uvalde and the general store pricing is high. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I were more prepared, even though the website is clear on what they provide. I'm not sure what I was expecting, I guess I have just stayed a cozy couples cabins, but it was great for two friends, and I will definitely bring my family back. The cabins are close together (we could see and talk to our neighbors on there patio) so if seclusion and privacy are what you are looking for this may not be the spot. I would strongly recommend it for families as they have common areas for basket ball, volley ball, and a park for the littles. Great stay and Margie at the desk was awesome. Wonderful stay. Can't wait to come back with the family.

Do not bring extra vehicles if you can help it (thank me later). But if you look around and get a date booked for the following year on a site you observed and liked, you'll have a better time. We spend two weeks there in June and another in July, but we've also been going since the summer it opened. They're like part of our extended family and we've met so many amazing families out there that have taken us in as a part of their own. It's right across from rock beach of Garner State Park. So you get to mingle with all sorts of people while out on the water and it's a quick drive at night to get kids to the dance or go hiking during the day. You should know this is a family park. They do not want party crowds. They don't really want visitors to your site and if you do bring someone in, you have to check them in and pay a day or night pass. This is really just a way to keep everyone's belongings safer. There is LOTS of theft on the Frio, cooler raids...lots of yeti stuff stollen from all the different parks. So they're trying to protect us. There is quiet time just like all the other RV parks also have. No music that can reach outside of your camping area. And if your crowd is noisy, you may not be allowed back. Insurance doesn't allow rope swings from their banks, so no need to even try it, it'll be cut down within the hour. You can also rent camp here if you prefer. There is a maximum amount of people allowed at each site tho. There are clean restrooms, washers and dryers are available at first come first serve. They have tubes for rent, an compressor and will even shuttle you if you ask nicely and they aren't too busy. They have a gator to take people down the hill with their belongings if you ask for help and will even return to get you if you aren't capable of getting back by yourself, which is great for those with mobility issues. So come out and chill, but remember people are tying to get away from crazy bar life and enjoy the country with their families. Be respectful of each other and don't cut through other people's camp sites...everyone is capable of walking on the road. Don't set your seats up in the entrance/exits to the river because you're not the only ones who exist. Don't be the jack ass that blasts music to try and outdo the other jack ass down the river blasting his music. And clean up after your dogs. Nobody wants poo on their shoe.

We all loved it including the dog. We had a great stay. The steps down to the creek are steep. There is a washer and dryer on site. I have ATandT for cell service and if I stood in the corner of the LR by the front window/garage wall, I had no problem getting service. I had one minor panic attack cause we aren't used to a well system with a cleaning cycle. It's loud and I thought a water line had busted. They came and checked everything out and it was all good. They were great about it and now I know what that sounds like. We will definitely be back here again.

Whenever we're itching for a getaway in the hill country, we always check to see if Foxfire has…read moreanything available. We've had two separate week long stays and really enjoyed each visit. Despite the name "Foxfire Log Cabins", they have quite a few properties scattered about Vanderpool that are older vacation homes, which is where we've chosen to stay both times. These typically offer great views of the hills, some with lots of beds for larger parties, spotty cell service, full kitchens, cable TV, a few are pet-friendly, and all fairly close to the beautiful trails of Lost Maples State Park. They have a lot of these homes, which all offer something a little different at affordable rates so you could definitely find one perfect for what you're looking for. They certainly have log cabins but they're all kind of bunched around each other near the main office and when we're wanting to drive out that way, we want solitude more than anything, which is what you'll get at one of the surrounding homes. We've stayed at their Creekside Lodge and the Farmhouse. Creekside is located on a beautiful creek, which is dammed at the edge of the property if you'd like to fish or take a dip in the cool water if you're brave enough. With a gas grill and a large porch with rocking chairs, it's easy to forget your troubles as you listen to the sounds of the creek babbling by. No cell service. The Farmhouse is located on a larger piece of land near a very shallow (ankle deep) part of the Sabinal River. The house probably sleeps 18 people comfortably and has gas and charcoal grills for your cooking pleasure. Some cell service in certain areas of the house. A campfire pit is between the house on the hill and the river below and offers an unobstructed view of the night sky. Without the distractions of day to day life, and surrounded by the hills, its easy to enjoy yourself and reconnect with your family. You also get a sense for how wonderfully long a day could be if you weren't wasting it on the internet. 4 stars. Highly recommend.
