This place is top notch! We went here while I had business in the area and took our dog with us. It's an amazing dog-friendly place that is family owned and operated. The manager, Veronica, is an absolute gem. She helped us with so many things from getting extra linens to giving us ideas for places to eat, since we were there during off peak times and early in the week. The spot that they are on in the river is absolutely stunning. The cabin we were in was peaceful and quiet. It was also just a short walk to have a beautiful view over the river and if you took a different path you could easily hop in. The back porch of the cabin was serene with bird feeders and even a humming bird feeder! There is a fire pit and a bbq pit if you feel like doing your own cooking. The cabin has all the necessary things for you to do your cooking for the entire time. I will say, prepare to be in the shower a touch longer, as the water pressure was somewhat low, but man...when water pressure is your single complaint, you know you're in heaven!!! I highly recommend this place and we will for sure stay here again. It's also reasonably priced. I advise if you're not trying to accommodate a summer schedule to go during the off season to enjoy a few less people. read more

My family of 6 adults and 2 school age children had the best time at the Frio River Cabins. We rented two cabins next to each other. We 100% recommend it and will return if possible. Veronica was an incredibly inviting and easily accessible host. Vacation was everything I hoped for and more...2-3 minute walk to river, play net fishing, walking up/down the river in water, the beautiful scenery, campfire, bbq, bicycling, hiking, chilling on rocking chairs, star gazing, trying out a telescope and seeing Jupiter's moons, watching a band of wild turkeys, deer and just being with family in a media free vacation. read more

We stayed in Cabin #10 all 10 of us slept comfortably. It was nice and secluded so they kids playing outside did not bother anyone. It was an easy walk to the small swimming hole. We drove down to the big area and packed a picnic it was great. Veronica and her team were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!!! read more

To start, I thought that I was booking our stay at a different cabin with a wholly separate company. Once the reservation was made I realized that I had, in fact, never booked with Frio River Cabins. We decided to go for it! What a happy accident! Cabin 7 was perfection. Quietly isolated and an easy walk down to the water, the cabin was clean had everything needed for us to have a great weekend(You bring your own linens). Photos at the website don't do it justice. Nothing but 5 stars for our stay! 14 of us stayed in the Buffalo Creek House and it was just perfect...clean, comfortable and a beautiful view! We had toliet paper in every bathroom...dish doap..dishwasher soap and even though they had just had 25 people in this house right before us you couldn't tell it! This place was AWESOME! It's a very short walk to the river.. the scenery is absolutely beautiful too. I must warn you that you if are with Sprint, you probably won't have a cell phone signal. . But AT&T seemed to work just fine. The people there are extremely friendly, and the cabin was very clean. I had a wonderful stay there.. I will definitely be back. read more

This is a great company to book a cabin with! When I called to ask a couple of questions about the booking I had, I received a free upgrade to cabin #7, which is an incredibly quiet and beautiful area. Once a day, a company rep will show up to refill bird feeders and take away garbage, and that should be the only time you see another human unless you happen to meet the cabin #10 renters down by the river. Solitude at its finest! After enjoying 3 days of peace & quiet, we left for home, only to discover we had inadvertently left pillows and blankets behind. After we contacted the office, they cheerfully agreed to mail them back to us. All in all this was a wonderful experience that we will repeat in the future! read more

My family and I go to the Frio every summer and this has been the only bad experience, and it was terrible! I made our reservation for July 28-31 at the beginning of March. The day before we leave I get a call from Temple saying that they double booked us. I asked her who booked first, because I made this reservation 4 months ago. She answered that she did not know. She offers to put us in another property, so I looked it up on line and agreed, against my better judgement (photos did not look good). Long story short, we get there after a three-plus hour drive and are regretting it immediately. It was an old trailer house on a part of the river that wasn't even flowing. It was literally 2 ft of water. The grass hadn't been mowed, there was a large pile of debris right in the front yard, and the place looked like it hadn't had a good cleaning in yrs. We had riaches crawling in us the first night, and roaches in the kitchen. The first time someone tried to use the guest bath, the knob for the cold water broke off rendering it useless. We left the second day. When I called the office to let them know about everything, I was told the owner would call me back. She never did. I waited a few days and spoke with Jessica who was very apologetics and told me that if the owner didn't call me back that she would personally call me back to work something out with me. Neither one called me back. I will never attempt to book with them again. They could have made this right but chose to ignore me. You ruined mine and my family's vacation this summer to the Frio! read more

Absolutely the worst cabins at the Frio. Do not make a reservation here! I have been going to the frio for 30+ years and have never been disappointed until this year when booking here. We went at the end of July and are still waiting for Jessica or Temple to return our call and rectify the situation. read more

Temple was very helpful when my friend and I arrived late and needed a place to stay. She offered me several options and I chose the number 4 cabin. The AC was very cold, so cold in-fact that we just turned it off. The room is set up in a very functional fashion and was very clean. I was nervous at first that bugs might be an issue, but the cabin was spotless and I never saw one critter. The shower was also clean and bigger than I was expecting. Access to the river was very close and was convenient for our extraction point. Temple drove us to a low water crossing where we tubes along the river, it was a fun part of the river, some nice spaces to stop, beautiful little water paths rolling through the cypress trees...picturesque. I would stay here again especially if I had children with me and the whole family was coming along. read more

WOW! Our family has been going to the Frio for decades now and we love the cabins the Yaklins have! We have stayed at most of them now, and at lots of different times of the year, and always want to go back. If you are looking for a great family adventure, this is it. It is quiet and peaceful, and they have everything you need. You can float the amazing river, go see a bat flight, make smores around the campfire and look at the stars. We stayed in one of their Original Six cabins over this Spring Break and even though we got rained on we had a blast. The cabin was surprisingly clean and it was fully stocked with everything we needed. After staying at several other cabin rental places in the area I can honestly say that the Frio River Cabins owners take pride in their cabins. Just that fact that the outside area around our cabin was so clean shows that fact. I believe it's a family owned business BC we checked in at the managers home just a short drive away from our cabin. We had nothing to complain about other than the rain and we will definitely be coming back this summer. read more

This was a totally awesome cabin set up perfect for our family of 4. With 2 bathrooms our teens were happy! The river could get no more perfect and at night the fireflies were magical. The owners were super accommodating with tubes and kayaks and even filled the bird feeders for us! Highly recommend the Frio River Cabins! read more

Let's start with the check in time on the email we received said 4pm, when checking in we learned it's actually 2! We wasted two hours on nothing! Upon arrival we had to clean our area around the cabin from all the debris from the storm that hit a few days prior. We had no toilet paper, trash bags, dish soap or hand soap that was suppose to be provided. The toaster was broken, the AC wasn't cooling properly and we all woke up hot. The refrigerator wasn't cooling properly that our 8 year old could tell the milk wasn't at the right temp. After the second day we asked for the the missing items. They brought us the items but the one trash bag they gave us was used!! We also had to ask them to come take out the trash from the outside can. Our four children were having fun with confetti eggs, and after all the issues we have had they were sure to promptly call us and tell us they were going to fine us $500 if we did not clean up the eggs. Go figure if it's about money they are quick! There are several nicer places located on the Frio River. We will not be back to the frio river cabins. read more

Our family has been going to the Frio River Cabins for three years now, as an annual family trip. We have stayed in two of the original six cabins, as well as the Shady Oaks property, which is an extended mobile home. The property and the weather are amazing, and the cabins have all the basic amenities. The owners are extremely helpful and responsive. The original 6 cabins are close enough to the water, but require a bit of a hike. Be prepared to carry small toddlers. Definitely bring some chairs that you can set up in shallow water to sit in, and maybe a thick blanket to lay down on the "beach." The water access for Shady Oaks is a bit easier. The view to the water is clear, and you can drive up to it and back a vehicle up close to the shore if you want to bring supplies. I am excited to make this a continuing tradition for our family! Be warned that there is no Wifi and cell phone reception is sketchy. read more
