The bartender, a waitress, and even one of the busboys really were helpful and shared ideas of things to see. Sleep quality was fantastic. We liked that it operates as an independent.

Rather than just assuming I had a reservation, I actively tried to verify it. I logged into my account on their website and checked my reservations. Nothing was showing under upcoming or past events. I then checked the credit card I remembered using when I registered, and there was no charge from them there either. At that point, I had three reasons to believe my registration had not actually gone through: no confirmation email I could locate, no reservation showing in my account, and no credit card charge. Based on that information, I reasonably concluded that I wasn't registered and told my friend I wouldn't be attending. Then, after the event, the $40 charge appeared on my credit card. I called and explained exactly what had happened and was told that this is simply how their system works and that the reservation may not show until the day of the event. They would not refund the charge. This makes absolutely no sense from a customer standpoint. If someone books an event days or weeks in advance, they should be able to log into their account at any point before the event and verify that they have a confirmed reservation. If payment isn't going to be processed when the reservation is made, there needs to be another reliable way to confirm the booking. I wasn't trying to cancel at the last minute or asking for a refund because I changed my mind. I wanted to attend. I specifically checked the day before because I was trying to be responsible and make sure I was registered. Had the reservation appeared in my account, or had the charge appeared on my card, I would have attended. I hope they improve their booking system so another customer doesn't have the same experience. Unfortunately, after the way this was handled, I won't be returning.

When I got to the room it was immediately a bit older and worn looking than the photos. As I always do I checked the bed first only to find little hairs everywhere on the bed and headboard... animal maybe? Then as I looked more there were visible stains on the sheets. They most definitely don't wash the top quilt so we removed that for the rest of the stay. My husband then took photos and brought them to front desk, they apologized and gave us new sheets yet we had to make the bed.... Last thing I want to do after a long day but I'm definitely not gonna sleep on the stained sheets....I honestly thought about switching hotels I even cried tbh because I was tired and upset. but decided to stick it out. The bathroom is fine but tiny. The shower barely got hot the whole stay and mind you I was there for a week (I had no choice). The paint on all the walls was literally peeling and chipped. The rug was dirty when we got to the room. The floor made me not really want to walk around without shoes on after showering because it felt gross. There was a spiders nest on our door frame and could mostly always hear music but whatever that's fine. No TV which is totally okay for us but something to note. We were moving so we had a lot of our values in our cars and while I don't mind the parking situation it was a bit scary as there were occasional homeless people and people that didn't look up to good wandering around the parking lot.. but what can you do? For the most part it's a lot of runners and pickleballers! I actually love the area it's in l, just again something to note! Honestly I was just disappointed. It's so cute in some areas and has great potential I just think they need to maintain their rooms better and thoroughly clean them. Oh and when I got my sheets changed again.... ANOTHER STAIN. Like just throw out stained sheets it's gross. It looked like someone peed on it. Also the sheets sucked and the bed wasn't very comfy. I'm all for the vintage feel, I'm not complaining about that it's just that it's not kept up well. I will say as my week went on and I accepted the cons I enjoyed the pool and pickleball courts! From the moment we checked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming and did everything they could to help us get settled quickly so we could make it to the concert on time. A special shoutout to the bellman who helped us (I wish I remembered his name!). He brought our pups' crates and all of our luggage up to the room and was just as helpful when we checked out, making sure we were completely taken care of. We really appreciated him! The room service was also amazing. Everything we ordered for both dinner and breakfast was delicious. Between the exceptional service, genuinely friendly staff, great food, and how accommodating they were with our pups, we had such a wonderful stay (even our pups had a great time). We'll absolutely be back!

I noticed when I returned that a toothpick I accidentally dropped on the floor wasn't picked up. The towels were left on the floor but the bed was haphazardly done. Second day? We left to walk the riverwalk and eat, when I returned at 3pm, the room was still a mess. I asked for them to come clean it... so where does one go in order to get out of the way? The pool naturally. Went upstairs to find 50+ drunk people in a pool. Nowhere to sit! Nosey me asked some of them and it turned out this hotel sells day passes. So as a guest you are expecting to be able to use the facilities but treated like a nuisance if you don't drink or aren't hungry enough to buy food. I sat at a cabana that they wanted to charge me 300 dollars for, watching various families that I saw the day before get turned around because the place had nowhere to sit. You are treated like the issue because their day pass guests are making them money. I brought up the issue to the management that the room wasn't cleaned and they apologized and said Themis isn't how they run things. However! The next day, we left at 12 for lunch and returned at 450 pm to a room that was not cleaned. The same quip response from their manager... this isn't how we run things blah blah blah! So if this isn't how you run things? Am I being singled out? It took a few minutes to confirm that everyone is treated like a nuisance. I saw a woman pulling her own bag cart to her room. Tons of people standing around watching her attempt to open the door with her cart. The manager, some short man with red hair and ill fitting suit is a expert at gas-lighting and must've graduate from the university of word vomit! He needs to be let go because clearly his staff don't respect him enough to change. Either that or he can't be bothered to lead his team! You want a better experience? Stay at the Monarch or the plaza next door!

It also felt like members got a bit more priority/attention around the course and events than resort guests did. Might work better for a quiet, low-key trip if you go in with low expectations.

Our room was fine, clean and other than the fact the TV didn't work (wasn't there to watch it anyway) but mentioned it and it was working later in the day. The jacuzzi tub did not work at all, but again not the end of the world (unless we really wanted to have a tub, which we did not). Location is awesome, the historic King William neighborhood is really beautiful and along the River walk and easy to walk to other places of interest in San Antonio. My only criticisms would be that even though there was practically no other guests while we were there, the owner Don would not allow us a late check out. Seems he's a stickler for 'the rules' and while I checked out before my cousin, neither he nor his wife Lisel were on property to store my cousin's luggage as they promised they would. Nor did either answer their phone when she called them and only got voicemail. To further exacerbate the situation after check out they immediately changed the keypad code so that my cousin couldn't get back in to pick up her luggage (which she left in the foyer). So for her, it was super annoying. For me, not so much. But anyone wanting to stay can take the review into account. It's a pricey stay and seems it can be a hit or miss experience.

With my lease quickly approaching an end, I recently stopped by to tour this property and I left…read morefeeling confused by what demographic they're targeting and underwhelmed just by the finish outs and amenities. First off, to be able to fairly compare these to other units you have to understand their business model, which is to be the T-Mobile of apartments - offering transparent, all-inclusive pricing with no hidden fees. That means no deposit, application fees, cable/internet, electricity, pest control, trash or water fees. The apartments here are 525 sq ft and run $1275 unfurnished. The biggest problem I foresee with these units, is that they feel so outdated compared to a lot of the apartments entering the market. When you enter your unit you walk right into a stacked washer and dryer (no door or anything), you're surrounded by a sea of white appliances and cheap flooring and finish-outs (i.e. no walk-in closet, cheap vinyl-looking countertops). You also can't upgrade the internet or TV packages (which are U-Verse and DirectTV respectfully). The "business center" is really a nook or desk with a single computer and printer and not much room for anything else on it. So why the 2-star review? Am I against transparent pricing? Of course not! But when you look at area apartments you have to wonder who the audience is. Most apartments in the area are offering apartments between 597-729 sq feet at rates of between $785-$999. At these apartments, you have higher levels of finish out like Whirlpool stainless steel appliances, islands with pendant lights, wine racks / coolers, resort style pools, multi-level, full-sized gyms, granite/quartz in the kitchen and bathrooms with decorative backsplashes, updated plumbing (i.e. Moen) fixtures, modern touches (i.e. Nest thermostats, free Amazon Alexas, built-in speakers for bluetooth music streaming, option for gigabit internet speeds), rooftop terraces with expansive views and an actual business center with multiple workstations and room for residents (plural) to sit and work (many in the form of dedicated conference rooms or study spaces in student housing). And by the time you add in fees and other costs you break even if not come out slightly more expensive. It's worth noting that apartments with higher numbers of vacancies don't mind waiving admin and security deposit fees or even giving free months of rent away to fill units and these are available to everyone. So then I started to think maybe students are the target audience with the proximity to UTSA. The issue here is there are a lot of properties and homes popping up catering to students and the finish outs and amenities are getting better and better as well. For instance, for $1125-$1199, one can net a fully furnished unit with gigabit internet, HBO, 50" LED TV and all utilities except electricity paid. This is in an upgraded unit with stainless steel, granite, etc. They also waive admin and deposit fees and give you 1/2 off a month's rent. And this is a 576 sq foot unit. The lady (short, looked like Thelma from Scooby Doo with black hair) giving the tour was telling me that they have the same finish outs and I'm equally concerned about them for competition there too. At $139 (current rate) a night they're more expensive than a king sized suite with sofa bed at the Drury Inn and Suites, $30 less than the king sized room at the all-suite SpringHill Suites and $20 less than the king, 2-room suite at the new Embassy Suites. It's worth noting that this place is literally surrounded by (3) Hiltons and (3) Marriotts (soon to be four) so there's also loyalty programs and pricing that may also make these a more attractive option. In summary, if I were the owner of these apartments/hotels I'd start putting money aside for "refreshing and modernizing" because for a brand new place, the units already look very dated and they're not very competitively priced for the area / level of finish. As a side note, they were telling us that the apartments weren't ready for move-in yet so for now, you'd be staying at the hotel and would get 50% off a month's rent price and move into an actual apartment unit once they're ready.
