Roping practice with one of the seasoned cowboys.

I have been coming here since 1991. It is still as amazing an experience as ever. Three of my family's generations have been able to ride horses, eat the cowboy breakfast, and stay in the luxurious cabins at the Mayan for over 30 years. There is a reason we all keep coming back, and it's mainly the Hicks family. We loce coming back and will for years to come!

The best experience for us and our two grandsons. We returned after 36 years (We brought their mother here as a six year old). We thoroughly enjoyed the food, lodging, and the fabulous & friendly staff...primarily made up of the Hicks family. We definitely plan to return more frequently.

Great Texas experience. Food is awesome and more than you can eat. Love the night time entertainment. Staff is very friendly. They do need to resurface/grade the roads.

You want a family place or a place to relax with close friends. Ideal when it's not hot. Food is three times a day plus snacks, with a variety that is unbelievable. Rustic setting but cabins are roomy and attractive. Fireplaces with real wood. Horses twice a day. It is family owned and you become a part of the family with your week or the few days you are there. Thick steaks, Mexican food, smoked turkey and lots of snacks. It is all inclusive. Cowgirl Kelley is the director of fun and really cares if you have a good time. I've been going there for many years and never been disappointed.

We returned recently from our 13th trip to the Mayan. We go with a large group each year. I can't say enough good things about it. The staff, as others have mentioned, is super friendly and helpful. Much of the food is from scratch and fabulous. You will NOT go hungry! If you are looking for a place to leave the world behind and enjoy a horse ride or two, this is definitely the place that you want to go.

Glad I washed my hair before I came. Water pressure not too great. But ok. Beds are comfortable. Great pillows. We had a balcony to look out to main street. That was nice. Customer service/staff (well one employee) she was very accommodating. We had paid for balcony room and #207 balcony not usable so she moved us to 215. We would stay here again since our kids live an hour away and no hotels there!!! All in all it was ok.

I appreciated the heads-up and asked to switch rooms -- they were kind enough to upgrade me to a suite at no extra charge. The hotel itself was very nice -- everything felt updated, fresh, and clean. Breakfast in the morning was surprisingly good. I had the Southwest scrambled eggs, waffles, sausage, and orange juice -- all enjoyable. The only real drawback was the room layout. When you enter the room, you walk directly into the bathroom area -- sink, toilet, and shower -- and only then do you get to the main sleeping area. This design can be uncomfortable, especially if someone is using the shower or bathroom and you need to leave the room. You're either stuck in the suite until they're done, or you have to walk right past them to exit. It may work for some, but it felt like a poor design choice for shared stays. Overall, though, it was a nice place to stay with great service and solid amenities. Just something to keep in mind depending on your travel situation.

My daughter and I stayed here for an event we were attending in town. We stayed only one night,…read morearrived to check in at 7:30 pm on a Friday and we were checking out the next morning before 8:00 am. When we checked in, the woman working at the desk was very friendly. However, she had about a five minute presentation on every detail about the resort. She even talked about things that were not happening while we were there. This would have been nice if we were staying a while but we were obviously there only about 12 hours. The other downside to this is that we were third in line to check in, so we had to stand there and listen to her say it three times. Side note, part of the check in process is to sign a liability waiver which I find odd. After we set off to find our cabin, I was shocked to find the grounds dark, completely dark. The only designation on the cabins is a number on the cabin itself and some of them do not face the street. The porch lights are dim so it was very difficult to find our place in the dark. The room was fine, dimly lit but fine. It was roomy, the beds were comfortable and the bathroom was nice. After we got settled, I went to the restaurant by the main office. They had live music and were taking orders outside. I was told by the woman taking orders that the kitchen was too backed up and they could not take any food orders at the time, "we are a three man operation and are too behind so come back in 30 minutes". Then, when I came back at 9:01 pm I was told they stop serving food at 9:00 and I could only get pizza. Not impressed with the restaurant. The next morning, I got up at 6:00 am to go for a walk. Again, everything is pitch black, no street lights anywhere. I walked through the little cabin street that winds around and followed a sidewalk that apparently turns into the golf course sidewalk. No designation, no lights, I had no idea. A staff member in a golf cart yelled at me that I was not allowed to walk on the golf course sidewalk. This also seemed strange to me as I wasn't running around on the course. I was on a sidewalk. This place was fine if you need to be close for an event, like we were, but I would not choose to stay here for any length of time for recreation.

My husband and I stayed at the Flying L cabin for a couple nights while we attended a very dear…read morefriend's wedding. Unfortunately, we didn't have the best experience staying there. 1. We are out-of-towners and this is our first time visiting Bandera. We always heard about the welcoming, friendliness and hospitality of the small town Texans. What we experienced at the front desk when we checked in wasn't any of those. The young lady who helped with our check-in wasn't friendly nor welcoming. I wanted to check out the place so I asked her if its ok for me to look around. I got a short answer from her after I repeated the question twice. No eye contact, no smile... 2. When we opened our cabin door, a very strong chemical smell of the most recent wood stains was overwhelming. We left the door open for a while to see if the smell got better, it wasn't, and we started feeling a light headache and nausea . So I called the front desk asking for another room. I was put on hold for a long time. I had hang up and then, got a call back. Since another cabin won't be ready until much later, we brought all of our luggages back in the car and drove to the check in area to drop off the keys. The young lady was busy with another customer so we talked to another lady. Again, no smile.. Its noone fault about the smell of the cabin. However, the way the situation was handled, it made us feel like we were bothering them. If I could "suck it in" and stayed in that room, I would. But my sensitive nose couldn't handle it... 3. The cabin itself has very nice wood walls and cute and simple decors. But it's a tiny space with the bunk bed taking a big chunk of the room. No closet or hangers, the tiny shower, and the beddings and towels, being dark brown, didn't help to show the cleanliness. The pillows were so hard, my husband couldn't sleep the 1st night. Luckily, he asked the front desk for a more "fluffier" pillows and got a better night of sleep the next night. Worse is,, there was only one tiny mirror in the bathroom. I am not sure why another mirror wasn't available in the room so 2 people can get ready at the same time... Customer services at these hotels are very important. They play a big part on how people, out-of-towners like us, view about the town and people who live here. Sadly, based on our experience from our stay here, Bandera wan't what we expected and maybe, will be our one time visting... *This resort/these cabins are surrounding by a nice golf course, homes and so many beautiful and peaceful deers. It has so much potential to be a very special place....

This was my first deer hunt and every step in the journey exceeded my expectations! The lodge facilities are truly amazing. Beautiful architecture and plenty of offerings to occupy my non-hunting time (pool table, chess, checkers, corn hole, ample book supply, TV/Cable, Wifi). The rooms were incredibly comfortably as well. Nights were peaceful and quiet, and the comfy bed/pillows made for some great snoozing. The A/C worked like a champ and was quiet all things considered. I've stayed in rooms where the A/C was reminiscent of being on the flight line watching B-52s take off. This was not that. Much appreciated! The food and service at the lodge were top shelf. Breakfast and dinners cooked up and served by Mike were amazing. And it wasn't just because I was hungry. The food is really really good! And Mike is at the ready to accommodate any special requests. We dined on Axis burgers, salmon, and fajitas during our three nights. More than enough food was dished out so even the largest of appetites won't be wanting for more. Breakfast is a repeat performance. Bacon, wild game sausage, eggs, pancakes, potatoes, cinnamon rolls oh my it's a veritable food parade. Pair it up with fresh coffee and I'm ready to permanently move in. But we were there for the hunting, so how was that? In a word... the best. Our guides Brent (who is also a wildlife biologist) and Kaden were on it! They worked hard to get us into position for our desired targets. This was my first hunt at a lodge and they graciously answered my nonstop questions. Our party took Fallow and Axis deer, which was great fun. The ranch's property is gorgeous, well maintained and spacious. We spent time with Keith, the main man in charge of the operation and also a wildlife biologist. He explained their philosophy towards the animals on their ranch. I was very impressed with the thinking, caring and effort put into ensuring the ranch's offerings remain the very best. There's a reason why it's hard to get a hunt lined up here. They don't over-harvest their ranch. If anything it's quite the opposite which I appreciate. The guys at the skinning house were just as fun. They do a great job to accommodate any special requests (e.g. mounts, cape, meat selection) and work hard to treat your catch with the utmost of respect. James, Jesse and the rest of the gang there were fun to hang with, swap stories and of course take care of our meat for the flight home. Their freezer was much appreciated! The coolers and contents were well-frozen when it was time for us to leave. Reflecting on our trip, I honestly can't come up with suggestions for improvements. They really hit it out of the park. The entire operation has a lot to be proud of, and it shows in the positive attitude and work ethic of their team. A subtle but very impressive takeaway was how well connected their team was. We would talk with one of their team and agree on something for the next hunt or whatever and their entire team knew about it and were on top of whatever it was. Seriously impressive. I've been to other organized vacations (ski trips, fishing charters) and I often need to have the same conversation multiple times leaving me with the feeling that they don't talk to each other and I have to work the logistics to make it happen. Not here! Maybe the only comment I could offer up would be to rename the ranch from "Flying A" to " Flying Five Stars Best Ever Ranch"... or something like that. They certainly delivery on a 5-star experience but that might be tough on the logo design.... ;) Many thanks to the entire team and I'll definitely be back!
