They have a cute little shop on the corner in the heart of Highwood within walking distance to so many wonderful businesses if you need to kill time. When you walk into Billy's, it's like you have entered their laboratory, everything they are working on is pretty much within eyeshot of the lobby. Billy's is keeping it old school. There is no fancy computer system, no appointment texts, no data capturing, just you having a conversation with Billy about your need. Billy will provide you a cost estimate on the spot and a ballpark on turn time, he scribbles your name and number down on a pad of paper, takes your car keys and that's it. You will NEVER receive a text from Billy, or an email, nor be required to use an app. You WILL receive a phone call and/or voicemail. I have had big jobs and small jobs done here and neither have disappointed. I literally came in after work with a small job sight unseen at 2pm in the afternoon and Billy turned me around in under an hour. You cannot ask for much more than that. So glad to have Billy's as a local resource and happy to patronize.

Well, once he broke down what my baby would need to run and act like new, went all in. He advises you on when things can wait a bit to be done vs need to be done urgently. My car is running great! I think that my favorite thing about Darren is his honesty. A couple of times I asked him about a repair and instead of leading me along or quoting me on something he was only guessing on, he just told me that this particular repair is beyond his knowledge or expertise (which isn't common, he can do it all). In the rare case this does happen he had a recommendation for who to go to. He helped me make that connection. I honestly wish Darren would look at my other non-Volvo cars... or maybe I should just trade them all in for Volvos because I would bring them all to him.

Dropped of a door shell and a hood for painting, I also supplied Mike with a quart of paint. All he…read morehad to do was to use my paint, prep and spray. I took all the responsibility for color matching. I also removed hardware from the hood and door, including handle, mirror, etc. Mike looked at the job and gave me a quote, in which I agreed without question. The job did not turn out well, painting of the door was not complete, a top section was not painted due to a partially removed molding which they did not remove. Hood had bad edges in which the paint was flaking, final sanding and polishing of the hood was horrible, you could see all the sanding marks. I brought the door and hood back and Mike and he agreed to redo it. I thought that all was good at this time, this all changed when I picked up the parts the following week. Mike removed the trim on the door as he should have done it the first time, but he did not reinstall it as he should, claiming that he is not a "restoration shop" and he does not like to take in business with people that watch YouTube. He then continued with a total melt down and I left the shop feeling confused. I never forced him to take this simple job, I did not tell him how much I wanted to pay and I did not expect to be yelled at by a lunatic when I returned to pick up my parts. So, if you are looking for a professional paint shop and expect to be treated fairly, this is not the place for you. In my opinion, maybe after 40 years of painting, Mike just inhaled way too much paint fumes. I can go on, but you get the picture...
