Came in with orthodontic gear in need of a root canal. My last one (at a different dentist and endodontist) took me 6 weeks and 4 appointments. With Dr. Coats I just completed the restorative part and it has only been a week and 2 appointments. Great staff, really nice office, good variety of music played overhead. These people are fabulous. Down to earth, and easy to work with! First of all, the staff here is super super friendly. The tech that guided me through the X-rays was very nice and calming. The reception staff is very warm and inviting too. Just wanted to offer some constructive criticism. On my last visit, I made an appointment because I wanted to talk to Dr. Coats about potential sleeping issues possibly due to my TMJ. I wasn't sure if it was the root or not. I really just wanted to talk to her because I hadn't been in for two years. So because I hadn't visited in so long, they assumed this was just a routine follow-up. So I was immediately whisked into a room and they started doing all these various X-rays, tests. This is where things went left. I kept thinking, "What is going on? I just wanted to talk to the doctor." Finally, because I was concerned, I asked the lady about cost because this wasn't what I came in for. She mumbled something about $500 or $700.....and that it was whatever I was quoted when I made my appointment. I could tell she was uncomfortable talking about price and was focusing on getting these X-rays. It felt very rushed, especially when I mentioned money. And she even said "Oh she probably told you the cost, you just forgot." I didn't like that comment at all. I don't think she meant it in a bad way, but it came off very dismissive. You don't ever tell a patient that. Even if that were the case, you don't say that. I would have remembered if someone told me my visit would have cost hundreds, especially because I was not coming for X-rays. In fact, I wouldn't have even gone to the appt if I knew that's what they wanted to do. When patients arrive, it would be nice to ask the patient what they are coming in for and not assume they know what's about to happen or start whisking them away for X-rays because "it's time." First of all, I wasn't quoted anything on the phone when I made the appointment. I simply called and said I wanted to talk to Dr. Coats about my sleep issues. There was no further follow-up. And even if I was due for X-rays, this should have been explained on the phone call before arriving. So someone dropped the ball here with communication - especially given the costs here. Dr. Coats is incredibly smart. I mean incredibly smart. You can tell she knows her stuff, but the few times I was in the office I always just felt like I was being upsold on her services instead of actually being heard as a patient. Granted, it's a business and I get it. However, there's no worse feeling than when you are a patient and you just feel as if they aren't really hearing you. They just want to sell you on something. Dr. Coats throws lots and lots of technical terms and detailed pictures and info that can quite honestly be overwhelming and then proceeds to sell you on whatever the service is. Having said that, I did mention how I felt at the end and appreciate her understanding my overwhelm during that appt. because she did not charge for those X-rays. That was only the right thing to do given there was no communication about what was to happen. Thank you for that. So I left the office feeling like I was not heard and with information overload. After all the X-rays, I didn't even ask her any questions about sleep because I knew the answer was just going to be to pay for her services. I was already checked out by then. I remember feeling overwhelmed on my first visit and should have followed my gut. For that reason, I will not be returning for any other services. I do hope they see this as constructive criticism. I was received recommendation to go to Dr Coats for braces for my daughter. I was told that Dr Coats was very knowledgeable and cannot make any negative comments about how smart she is. What I will say is, that she is condescending and lacks in bed side manner. She also suggests one specific treatment and when you sign off, then changes the treatment plan. I know that teenagers are not 100% compliant, but Dr Coats makes it a point to belittle my daughter for having compliancy issues. So much so that she has resorted to fear tactics (telling her she will have to have her jaw broke later). In addition to that, she told us that because she is not as compliant as she wants her to be, that we should just remove the braces altogether because they are not doing anything and she cannot do anything else. If the treatment plan had not changed, I feel like we would be in a better position, but that is my opinion and I am not a trained professional. (Original treatment plan was to use expanders but she changed to not use them and now at the end, she is trying to use rubber bands to expand her bite.) She then stated that she will draw up an affidavit for us to sign that we chose not to finish treatment when she is the one suggesting it. We cannot sign an affidavit that we are ending treatment against medical advice, when she is the one who said she cannot do anything further. The rollercoaster that this doctor has put my daughter and family thru is outrageous and I do not recommend going to this doctor. read more

Not an office I would do business with. So the saga starts off with my wife wanting an alternative to a cpap machine. This office was a referral from another doctor. When we made the appointment they wanted a $425 fee for the appointment and wouldn't really give any info on services without it. I understand needing to get paid for your time. We ask what range of cost for the dental appliance. They said they couldn't as there were to many options and would not give any additional info.. The day before the appointment she Recieves a call confirming the appointment and was kind enough to give us more information. And tell us the device would cost with the appointment fee almost $5,000. So I called and canceled the appointment and the very kind lady said there would be a $100 fee for late cancellation. She finally agreed to refund the full amount. read more

Too summarize I'd say that this dentist office: 1) Has an exceptional hygienist 2) Dentist has a variety of sedation options 3) Dentist gave a warranty without my request as part of the price of the implant 4) Some of the dental treatments I underwent were quite brutal 5) The implant that she did was not a reliable solution under her care 6) The required patient paperwork assumes that the customer is unreliable and unwilling to pay 7) The experience was bad overall but my mouth is healthier now than it's ever been as an adult Let me start out by saying that I might have visited a lawyer and potentially filed a malpractice lawsuit had the dentist not sold me insurance along with the failed treatment. With the warranty another dentist was able to pick up the pieces and make my mouth whole again. I've used this dentist for a few years and have quite a bit to share both positive and negative. I'm doing so because I don't believe that my experiences are unique me. On my first visit I was inundated with paperwork. They put me through a litany of uncomfortable, pry'd open, awkward, photographic shots of my mouth. They followed with x-rays, followed by attempts to upsell me on non-dental and dental procedures. Then they got to work with a crown. Later pulling wisdom teeth. Followed by sending me to an orthodontist that didn't pay attention to the reason I was there (upright 2 teeth to make room for an implant) and instead treated me cosmetically and continually tried to upsell me on jaw surgery even though I reminded him of my need for two straight teeth to accommodate an implant where a baby tooth had been for 50 years. Most of my treatments were torturous either during or after the treatment. For instance I was sedated nicely for removal of four wisdom teeth but when I went home the back of my throat hurt really bad for 3 days. I called the doctor the next day to inquire about my throat and she seemed puzzled. My best guess is that I spent hours under sedation choking on my own blood while they extracted the teeth; that's nothing I can prove but there has to be a reason for throat pain since I wasn't sick with a cold. The problematic tooth implant caused me distress for a variety of reasons. Rather than go into great detail suffice it to say that it was time consuming, laborious, uncomfortable at every stage, and the doctor seemed to take a lot of time discussing why the parts weren't fitting together too well with the assistant. I was eating dinner one night when I felt the implant tooth loosening up. A couple of days later at work I couldn't concentrate because the implant was rattling around between two 'not so upright teeth' and I felt like at any moment I might swallow a chunk of fake-tooth metal. I was in a meeting and the damn thing was bouncing around every time I was required to talk. I called for an emergency appointment. When I arrived I exchanged information with a man from Houston that was there for a crown that fell out of his mouth too. He said that he and his family were from Houston and that he had planned to bring his family there before the dentist botched his permanent crown. He said that his experience is causing him to continue with his dentist in Houston. While we were waiting to be seen a lady was checking out at the counter and she was told that her visit would be no cost to her since her crown fell out. Both of us looked at each other in astonishment knowing that 3 people were there at the same time for teeth that fell out of our mouths. My next appointment was a scheduled hygiene appointment, and an opportunity to report that the implant is loose again for a second time. I showed up at 7am and was given paperwork to fill out, the top form required that I leave a credit card and signature on file in case I missed appointments they would charge me $50 or $100. I went to the counter and gave the paperwork back to the two girls sitting there and told them that I'm not going to sign this document. I told them I'd rather find a new dentist. Neither lady said a word, they let me walk out of the door never to return. I never got a follow up call from the dentist or any of her staff to figure out what happened? Or how could they make it right? But I do get email reminders from her office telling me make an appointment for hygiene... unbelievable. My new dentist had trouble getting my dental records from my old dentist. Once he got the dental records and found out what company he needed to work with to repair my implant. He then ordered the right tools, did his research and repaired the implant. The new dentist took X-rays before and after his work. His conclusion was that my previous dentist was getting incorrect torque readings because too much gum tissue was surrounding the implant when it was initially installed. I'm happy that the new dentist is competent, friendly and frank with me. read more

This is a big thank you to Dr. Coats and team for helping me heal my TMJ problems. I went in because I was having migraines and CRPS flare ups, after getting all my imaging & testing done Dr. Coats & her dental assistant Samantha explained why I was experiencing so much pain. My cartilage on both sides of my jaw had been worn down, close to bone on bone. They are very thorough and walked me through each part of the process to no longer have TMJ problems. The entire staff are patient and understanding with excellent efficiency every step of the way. I had previously learned how important the dental meridian is to our bodies. But I had barely scratched the surface of dental knowledge. Dr. Coats is studious while always learning and adding helpful techniques to her practice. I feel very comfortable when I go into my appointments and the environment is calming. Which We all know is a Rare thing to find at a dentists office. Do to Becky Coats is the worst! Now that I found a dentist who will do what I need them to do and do it right I will be happy to share my experience with anyone & everyone!! I went to Dr. Coats for 5 years.. I loved he hygienist!! But Coats not so much!! I had 4 caps put in.. two front teeth and two molars.. after three last one was put in during the process she asked me if I wanted nucalm which I was hesitant.. she said it will be ok. I'm noooo it was not!!! I freaked out in the middle and she told me to sit still because we couldn't change it now. A week later it hurt, she saw me and said nothing was wrong with it.. I wound up with cellulitis and a staph infection in my face.. her response was I will see you TUESDAY.. umm Tuesday would have been too late!! I was treated at an urgent care office and kept my appointment to see her on Tuesday.. she moved me where no one could hear me.. she said,"Well I can't do anything for you now because you didn't listen to me". Ummm no Dr. Coats you didn't listen to me! I was on antibiotics for 6 months afterwards, and the tooth was still infected.. which I didn't know.. and with ailments Over the past 2 years I was on antibiotics for different things so it would clear up and then reinfect itself!! She scared me into not going to a dentist for 2 years. Fast forward to now yesterday I had excruciating pain, and finally went in and had the tooth pulled because it needed to come out!! I have no pain tolerance whatsoever so my 0-10 scale is usually 0... the dentist told me that the pain I should have had was 15 for normal people!! The dentist who pulled my tooth couldn't believe the bad customer service that Dr Coats had. She has no personality and not focused on what her customers need!! Now after 2 years and not needing my records anymore because my new dentist is going to start from scratch!! I can totally do what I wanted to 2 years ago!! Slam Dr. Coats the best way I know how!! Thanks for not listening to me and almost killing me!! The tooth that had to be pulled was infected all the way to the bone!!! There was NO BONE LEFT under that tooth!! read more

The ladies in the office are very friendly as is Dr. Coates. Unfortunately, they are extremely expensive. I paid almost $7,000 out of pocket after my insurance coverage and then continued to receive bills that they overlooked, weren't included in the first estimate, etc. I have paid now over $500 (out of pocket) more than I was quoted. And since receiving my new crowns over 3 months ago, my teeth are still sensitive to hot and cold. Very disappointed. read more

I met Dr Coats about 18 months ago. It'd been many many years since I'd seen a dentist and I was absolutely terrified!! The staff is incredibly nice and encouraging and has made me feel very comfortable since day one. Dr. Coats is very thorough, competent, and gentle. We had a nice experience at the clinic this morning with my 4-year-old daughter. The hygenist was extremely patient, kind and did everything to make my daughter feel comfortable. The hygenist even "cleaned" the teeth of the stuffed animal my daughter carried into the clinic! I also appreciated that she did not force the x-ray - it was apparent my daughter was not ready and I was quite comfortable with that decision. Total rip! I was told I needed all four of my NEW Crowns replaced, that my bite was all messed up and I needed braces! The cost for all of this....drum roll please.... $50,000 yes 50K!!!! I think they're smoking crack in that office and have lost their minds! Why would my brand new crowns need to be replaced??? I could see maybe one of them being incorrectly fit, but all four...come on! I went to another dentist in Southlake, he looked over all of my X-rays (and my teeth) and said everything was fine!!! Not to mention...Dr Coates is rude and arrogant! Save your money and go elsewhere!!! read more

As the previous poster stated..Go somewhere else!! I also went in for an initial visit and to have a basic teeth cleaning performed. I explained to them that everything I was doing would be out of pocket as I do not have dental coverage on my health insurance. Yes the xrays and check up was very thorough but then the upsale started. Im very disappointed that the visit cost me 215 dollars and I still didnt have my teeth cleaned. They tried to sell me on a "deep tooth cleaning and laser treatments to my gums" They additionally tried to get me to let them do fillings on multiple teeth because they said "they had a tendancy to be a cavity in the future" I feel that once a filling is done the evidence of whether there was a cavity there is gone and hard to dispute. So my estimate for the work they wanted to do was well over 1200 dollars. I believe they need to understand that a lot of people in this economy cannot afford to spend that amount without dental insurance. I felt like they were more interested in thier income per patient ratio rather than the long term health of me and my teeth. I would not recommend using this dentist unless you just want to spend money on unneeded proceedures. I did google deep teeth cleaning scams and read many instances of this same proceedural misuse of trust performed by a monetary driven health care professional rather than a true mission to maintain a healthy patient. They were not happy when I told them I would not be coming back. read more

The other reviewer is correct. This office is about monetizing your mouth with expensive procedures - which may be totally unnecessary. I was told I needed over $6,000 in work. I went to my hometown dentist who did a more thorough investigation and said nearly everything I was told was false and that what was actually needed was $500.
