I wanted to express my disappointment regarding my recent experience at the Watchung location while attempting to return a luxury cardholder.Despite providing my TJMAXX receipt via email and the app, the staff claimed that my receipts did not state an in-store or mail return on the receipt. However, the app clearly indicated that in-store returns were an option when selecting if I would like to do a free in-store return or mail return even showing this location as available. It was disheartening to encounter such resistance from the staff on the night of October 1st, 2025. Luckily, another TJMAXX was able to do this return smoothly in-store. read more

Can't resist a TJ Maxx, and that is true even when, or especially when, I am out if state. While there is a lot of consistency in merchandise, each location does have unique items based in the demographics. This was the first time I shopped at a TJ Maxx / Home Goods combo; where I live, the stores are never combined. This in itself meant I had to go explore! Wasting no time, literally about 30 minutes after arriving at my friend's after a flight from the west coast, we immediately got to scouring the racks and racks of clothing. My friend was happy to have my "keen" eye for style and bargains to help her perk up her wardrobe. Everywhere I looked, in every department, was leopard and python prints. I explained to my friend, if you want to know what the on trend piece is, just walk around a TJ's or Marshalls and whatever print shows up equally in accessories, bath, clothing and home decor, that's what's in trend! Sure enough, there were leopard print shoes, purses, scarves and hats. The print showed up on soap dispensers, towels and baskets in home decor. You couldn't pass through the pajama section without seeing leopard print PJs and fuzzy slippers. And of course in women's clothing the print was everywhere: sweaters, cardigans, jackets, as the trim on jackets, puffy vests, leggings, and tank tops. We both ended up buying the same leopard print sweater, in shades of golden browns and black, with a faux white shirt hem. Since we live on opposite coasts, no chance of "twinning" or showing up in a "who wore it best" article! LOL We even bought the soap dispenser, tissue box and tray in a black and white leopard print to freshen up her powder room. Animal print is a neutral and goes with anything. This print completely transformed her room giving it a much needed "now" factor for under $50. Many people may not realize, but the jewelry counter is the home of lots of stylish and affordable sterling silver jewelry, lots made in Israel or a India. Of course I found a must have pair of long sterling earrings with turquoise stones, my weakness for $16.99 it was a no brainer. The HomeGoods section was way in the back of the huge footprint and had all the items I'm used to seeing back in Portland. I didn't spend a lot of time here because no sense finding an item that I had no chance of getting home. I did see a pair of light blue faux ice skates that said "Let it Snow" that matched my Christmas decor colors so I went to HomeGoods by my house upon my return, and after some deep shelve scouring, I found them. Score! This location is jam packed with merchandise and it's as organized as it can be with the many consumers rifling through the racks and shelves. Since I'm from NJ, I just loved shopping with my peeps! I was continuously engaging in conversations with random people because that's we do in NJ, we talk to everyone! Offering and asking opinions. Sharing delight when scoring a find. Giving a compliment or telling some stranger they had to buy that jacket, bracelet, sweater, whatever! This TJ Maxx is not bad for its brand. I prefer Marshall's. I did find 2 pair of pants and some essential oils. The oils had no smell so I returned them. There was no hassle with the return process. No questions asked and no attitude. I bought some chocolate covered espresso beans. I would definitely revisit for their gourmet food over their clothing selection. read more

Worst TJ Maxx EVER! I live about a 6 minute drive away from this Tj Maxx so it tends to be the only one I normally ever go to normally. I've been here multiple times, and have found great deals such as dog treats and even once a beautiful Zara romper which is nice since that's what a consumer is usually searching for. HOWEVER, everytime I've been here either the employees and/or manager have been completely rude in multiple occasions which in many times has made me want to avoid the store overall. The last time I came here which was about 2 weeks ago, I had a coupon and it was on my phone but I had just recalled at checkout that I had one to begin with and the cashier was rolling her eyes at me, rushing me, and giving me so much attitude. I get it, it's annoying when customers do this HOWEVER I too have worked as a cashier but I've never not once treated a customer as I was treated and I believe this place requires new management with employees who have great customer service because I'm sure many customers have not came back or avoid this location at all costs just because of the service here! I purchased a samsonite suitcase for $110. The first time I used it the handle broke. I had the price tag and the receipt, but the manager (white woman with blonde hair named marynka or something) said she could not find it in the system and I should take it to the tj maxx where I bought it. Having worked in a dept store I asked her why they would be able to find it if she could not. I mean she was so clearly just trying to get rid of me. Then she said if you can find a similar suitcase that would help but we don't have anything like that. So I went over to the dozens of suitcases, found a similar samsonite suitcase with almost the same item number and brought it to her. Then having run out of excuses, she was suddenly able to scan my receipt meaning the she was lying about not being able to find it in the system and she only gave me store credit anyway. read more

This place is trash. Very bad management by the manager named Denora who is not a people's person by the way and very rude. I went to exchange two items I bought for a different since, they told me thrrr was a difference in price because they weren't the same items. As a matter of fact they were, just different variety of colors so I offered to get the same exact one I was return for an even swap, she then told me there will still be a difference in price because she doesn't control price increase. Apparently you are screwed if you buy the wrong size and prices increases. No other retailer does that. She then walked away during the conversation so I demanded a refund. Denora the manager sucks!! I like you TJ Maxx. I can find great deals almost everytime I see you. Great selection, always changing, and organized, (for the most part). Not only can I find things for me, but I can find things for almost everything else I need to, at decent prices! This is the TJ Maxx located in the Watchung Mall. I can't comment on women's or children's stuff, only Men's. My experience has been the Marshalls in the Blue Star plaza, which is the same store family, has a better selection for men. I've found the TJ Maxx in Gillette is not only nicer, but also has a much bigger men's selection. The prices are the same across the stores locations. The staff has always been friendly and courteous , although this location is not as clean and classy as some of the other locations. Some days you can score incredible deals on quality clothing. Other days, most of the quality items have been picked through. But, that's what discount stores are about. read more

I visit this TJ Maxx (Watchung Mall) location pretty often. As stated by other reviewers, it could be a hit (very rarely) or miss (more often). In general, I found that over the years the merchandise is getting worse, lower standard and quality. TJ Maxx used to be one of my favorite stores, because you never knew what you can find there. Not anymore.... You can spend a lot of time browsing through cheap, not appealing stuff without finding a single item with interesting color or design. Not sure what's going on with these stores, maybe it's time to find new workers who would know what customers are looking for in fashion... just a thought... read more

I completely agree, this store is terrible. The management is rude and not helpful. I was surprised because in all the years dealing with TJ MAXX, I've never had any issues with returning items, especially when I have a receipt. I purchased jewelry on line just before the lock down. Last weekend I went to return with my receipt in hand. I was told I only have 30 days to return. I reminded them, that was not possible because of the lock down. They did not care and then insisted the stores were opened in June and I could have returned then. I went on to remind them because of health issues I was not inclined to leave the house for a return of merchandise I didn't think I would have had an issue returning because I have my receipt. Can I at least get a store credit? I was denied any satisfaction. So I am writing this review to warn everyone that it seems TJ MAXX is not as nice and accommodating to its customers any longer. I used to go to the one one in NYC on 57th st but because we are now working from home, I'm forced to go to this horrible one here in Watchung NJ close to my home. I will definitely not be returning there. That store can never get my business again. read more

I love Tj Maxx, but not this location. The checkout lines are always long and very, very slow. They need to open more registers when there is a long line. Also, this is the only Tj Maxx where there is a problem with all the shopping carts. The wheels jam and or make annoying noise making for a really annoying shopping experience. This store always had fewer customers and slower check out service than other locations but its location is convenient to other stores (AC Moore, Target, Home Depot). I had a very frustrating experience here attempting to return dresses I had bought online. The salesperson Martha G. couldn't process my return and declared that the first dress she looked at wasn't on the packing slip receipt. I was appalled because I double checked before entering the store that all my dresses were listed on the receipt. She clearly was having trouble with the second dress, so I pointed out on the receipt the dress, showed that the item names were the same and the SKUs we're identical. She claims the 'style numbers' didn't match and that is the number she has to identify. I argued that the items were the same and I started to show her the first dress's name and SKU matched another line item on the receipt when she interrupted to 'not talk to her that way'. I asked to see her supervisor and she claims she was the supervisor. I couldn't believe it. This employee had no idea how to process a return and she was the supervisor. I clam up and wait to see what she does next. Miraculously, she starts to match the dresses to the receipt and even matches the first dress. The same dress she said earlier wasn't listed. Then near the end of checking out, she gets another employee to sign off on the return. If she's the supervisor, why does she need someone else's signature to complete the return? Incompetent, stubborn, and dishonest. I will not be coming here again. The TJ Maxx in Stirling is far better. read more
