Located right beside the Watchung Square, there's a huge lot and right off Rt 22. Even in a calm night, the challenge now is Walmart has some tough inventory issues, and people mess up the shelves so it's hard to find things. While I found nothing I wanted in my last trip, the standard Walmart prices here are lower than many places and you can get a bunch of basics here. Aisles of frozen/fridge goods and nonperishables in the aisles. Not so much of a produce/fruit here. There are a lot of shelves locked behind glass so they are opened only by staff. read more

I needed a USB cable, and the c. $8.00 item was in a locked display. I had no idea where to find someone to unlock it, and so I tried to call the store. I first selected "5" on the voice menu to connect to Electronics and there was no answer. I called back and selected "0" for the "store operator" and there was no answer either. So what it comes down to is that if we ever need to call that store for something, there's nobody there to answer the phone! When an employee walked by, he pointed me to a door at the back of the store, and when I opened the "employees only" door, I found someone who finally pointed me to an attended register 4 aisles away. There was one person working it, and it took 15 minutes before it was finally my turn and he opened the display for me, being pretty impatient since he had to get back to his cash register. read more

About as average as the other Wal-mart's I've been to, but this particular one's location within the mall is a bit...odd. It's at the far end which makes the parking somewhat "contained" as opposed to if it were located in the middle. This isn't a problem because it fills up, but trying to get in and out of it is a matter too. The entrance and exit of the Wal-mart is on the far right too, again like the actual location of the store, it seems like it should be centered. It's kind of hard to describe in the form of writing a review. The actual store is again average. I came to pick up a fresh new game and the electronics dept. attendant was very cool and gets points because she conversed with me about the game. Nothing wrong with some friendly customer service. Good Evening. I am leaving a most positive review for an associate who helped me this evening and provided superior customer service. This employee NIKI was working in the online pickup portion of the store (store #5111). The person who picked my order earlier did not pick it correctly. Niki was working in the department and I explained that the order was incorrect. She IMMEDIATELY rectified the situation. In the 20 years coming to this store, this is the FIRST time the customer service was met with solution and a big heartfelt smile. The kind of smile that comes from the heart. I will surely look for Niki the next time I am in the store. She by far is a true asset to this Walmart #5111. Customer service is non existent. Lots of empty shelves. And the thing that pisses me off the most self checkouts that only except credit cards and no cash. You find this out after you have scanned all your stuff because there is no signage other then a 1 inch square notice on the screen. PUT UP A SIGN THAT YOU CAN SEE. This is an average walmart but not stocked as nicely as others. You can find the food, clothing, electronics, and home supplies as you would at other walmarts. The staff is hit or miss. Some can be rude and some are very helpful. They always seem to not be around though. The lanes are average length but can get quite long. Hours are good, extended. I come here a lot whenever I need certain items that aren't cheaper elsewhere (like Pringles and car wash accessories). This store can get crowded at times, but that doesn't bother me, especially when I'm not in a rush. My biggest gripe is that some of the shelves are quite messy. Drive up pickup is a joke here. I pulled up after using app to tell them I was arriving. After 5 minutes nothing happened, no one appeared. I tried calling number on sign outside to announce arrival and tell them what spot I was in- rang at least 20 times (no kidding!) and no one picked up. Ended up going inside the store where I was asked first did I use the app (YES) and when I told them I called and no one picked up they looked at me as if I was lying. I recently visited this location after I had purchased my fiancé a bicycle from a different Walmart location because it was defective. I had approved the manager Marco about one that was sitting in a box (same as the built one I was exchanging). Marco who seem to be handling multiple things at that moment went out his way to get someone to come pick up the bike and build it for me in 30 mins or less as I waited. As I waited by customer service for my exchange, I had the pleasure in meeting Grace who was really nice, and also found me sanitizers (difficult to find during this pandemic). She was very welcoming. Oleh (the guy who built my 2nd bike) came with a perfectly built back, he told me he built this bike with so much love as if he was building it for his wife. He tested the pedals, chains etc before handing it over. Marco the manager happened to be walking outside and checked up on me to make sure all went well. I had made a wrong turn while driving and wound up hurtling down Route 22, which I generally avoid since many people treat Route 22 like it's a set piece from a Mad Max movie. Anyhow, needing a break I pulled into this Wal-Mart, hoping to do some toy hunting while I was at it. It seems a bit early in this review to say this, but this was almost a four star review - except that the parking lot was a freaking nightmare. It is very tight and it was so packed I had to inch along everywhere for fear of hitting someone (either in or out of a vehicle). That said, once inside I was pleasantly surprised to see how well organized this Wal-Mart was. I'm used to seeing Wal-Marts look like a bomb hit them, but this one was clean, with the clothing organized, the toy section was well put together and it actually had some harder to find items I had been hunting for without success for two weeks! They also had some sugar free chocolate I had been looking for. This Wal-Mart also has a small McDonalds inside of it with limited seating. Their auto section is pretty well stocked too (compared to my branch in Linden). I won't be going out of my way to hit this Wal-Mart again, but if I do wind up on 22 again I may visit again. read more

Not one of the better Walmarts. Its located in the Watchung Square Mall, but its located in its own area at the far end so sometimes parking can be almost full. You can price shop against the other big name stores in the same mall. Its one of the dirtier stores I've been in, and sometimes is overcrowded. You also tend to get a rougher crowd in here. Its not always well stocked, and the shelves can be disorganized. The workers vary in competence and friendliness - sometimes you get someone terrific, other times, forget it. read more

I was expecting more from my local Walmart in Watchung since I was used to my local Walmart store in Boca Raton. Boy, was in for a surprise ! I thought all Walmart stores sold meat and vegetables. I figured since they had a grocery department and a frozen aisle department it would just make sense to sell fresh produce and fresh meats and seafood . How hard could that be? After all this is Walmart the biggest employer and purchaser of goods in the country.Every time I have been in this Watchung store it is always very busy.They do a tremendous amount of business the food aisles are constantly being replenished. I heard people complaining that they had to go to two different stores to complete their shopping which was inconvenient . I agree! This could be the one stop shopping place if they were to add produce and meat.There is plenty of room up in the Watchung center. Their prices are very good but if you ask anyone for help, your pretty much on your own. If you go there find what you want first go online then go and purchase it.I have been to many different Walmart stores and i do find that know two are the same. I always get a headache when I go to this Walmart. If not for any reason other than the sheer amount of frustration I feel just trying to get a parking space in the lot. Heck, just getting TO the lot most of the time is nearly impossible because customers are pouring out of both entrances and walking across the parking lot without looking. Carts only sometimes make it to the cart corrals, but more often than not sit in the middle of parking spaces near the front of the always full parking lot. The store itself is usually mostly clean. They do try to keep the products organized on the shelves, but it's rare to find a product that actually matches the price tag that's under it. Most of the cashiers work quickly and efficiently, but it seems that there's always lines because of the high volume of customers in the store. Most of the employees can be quite helpful in finding things - if it's in their department. Otherwise, you'd have better luck just hunting on your own. This store has 4 self checkout stations, which I have used in the past. I've always had issues when using coupons there, so I prefer to go to a real cashier if I have coupons. Let's be realistic here - it's Walmart, not Nordstrom or Saks. Their employees are underpaid and have little chances of advancing into real careers with the company. I don't expect the kind of treatment that is found in high-end department stores or even specialized boutiques. You get low prices and a pretty large selection of products to choose from. read more
