Came for the schnitzel and it didn't disappoint! I got the Jaeger schnitzel which is a breaded fried pork cutlet with a mushroom gravy. You can pick two sides and I got potato salad and rotkohl (red cabbage). It was a very hearty and filling meal. The schnitzel with the mushroom gravy was delicious! I loved the sides too. My sister got the shepherds pie which was also great! Very flavorful and came with a fresh side salad. They have indoor seating and some outdoor seating on the balcony overlooking Poulsbo. Such a popular spot with incredible views and a great patio--especially when the weather is nice. The food seemed authentic and delicious, and overall it's a place you'd expect to love. Unfortunately, the service really took away from the experience. Our server, Jennifer Burnett, was noticeably warm and attentive to another group nearby, but with us, the service felt dismissive and disengaged. For example, my husband ordered an Aperol spritz, and when they were out, we substituted Campari--but what arrived resembled a raspberry sparkling water, not even close to what Campari tastes like. When we brought it up, the response felt very brushed off. It's disappointing because the setting and food have so much potential, but service matters. I'd recommend spending your money elsewhere in Poulsbo--there are plenty of great spots along the main strip that offer both good food and a better overall experience. read more

What a cozy European space! Loved the music- mix of 70's and 80's rock; delicious taster flights, and amazing German food. Service was pretty slow but they were pretty busy with an influx of people so totally no worries there, I was too busy getting buzzed off of a mimosa flight. My boyfriend got the Wiener schnitzel and I ended up just getting a cucumber salad due to a meal plan I'm on (sad I know). I will say from me the cucumber salad was 10/10. Perfectly sour. We went here for dinner our first night in Poulsbo. The restaurant is not easy to find from the street but a passerby explained that you need to go down a hallway then upstairs. That was helpful. The ambience is European (hence the name). We sat indoors although there is outside seating on a balcony overlooking the Main Street. I had the salmon, which came with mashed potatoes and cucumber salad. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the potatoes were delicious. The salad was good too. One negative was that I asked for potato soup as a starter but it came at the same time as my entree. The wife had the Shepard's pie and loved it. The meat was fall apart tender. The veggies were perfectly cooked. The crust was flaky and perfectly cooked. It was one of the best Shepard's pie I ever tasted. The kid had pasta with red sauce and liked it. The accompanying garlic bread was excellent. The entire menu was really enticing and I would love to eat there again. Overall, the food was 5 stars. The reason for 4 stars is that we waited a really long time to get our food and my starter soup came along with my salmon so I had to eat both simultaneously to avoid one getting cold. The reason for slow service was that there was only one waitress on duty for the entire restaurant. I did not count but she must have had 8 tables at least. I don't give many 5 star reviews but this was a very tasty meal with friendly service. I really appreciated that our server didn't seem annoyed that we asked to share a meal. The portions were so huge and we weren't going to be home soon enough to put leftovers away. We preferred the mushroom gravy schnitzel with the potato salad. It was absolutely delicious and perfectly fried. The gravy had a ton of flavor but not too salty. The potato salad wasn't really like a traditional German potato salad that you normally get at a deli but they were still so very good in all the gravy. It was more of just like steamed potatoes with a slightly tangy taste, I did see some mustard in there. Maybe that's the way it's traditionally done? The other side was just a basic mixed greens salad with a yummy blue cheese dressing you could tell was homemade. At $22 & the quality /amount you get, this was worth it. We also ordered a side of spatzeal ( spelling it wrong) that we didn't end up getting brought out but there was so much food it worked out. We will definitely be back! There's outdoor seating for when it's a nice day and a very extensive beer and drink menu. The pretzels looked amazing! Wanted some beer and food before we headed out on our journey back home. Great selection of beers. Ordered a Jaeger Schnitzel and Kick'N Chicken. Crispy chicken and crispy pork cutlet. Generous with the meals. Only downside to the Jaeger Schnitzel was there was no sauce with it. We asked for sauce and they charged us $3.50 for the gravy. Waitress was great. I have eaten at Tizzley's many times in the past and without a doubt, the food I was served today was the most bland, boring German food I have ever had. That is saying a lot considering I lived in Germany for 4 years and have enjoyed many German restaurants in tbe US. The gravy on the schnitzel was supposed to have mushrooms in it but I couldn't find any, mostly starch. The German potato salad was more like plain potatoes that might have come near to a bottle of vinegar and had no bacon as advertised. The schnitzel was nothing to brag of. The only reason I give it 1 star is because the Rotkhol was ok. I won't eat here again because I have better things to spend my hard earned money on. read more

After doing some some research and watching youtube videos, we were looking forward to visiting this place as a highlight to our day after 4th of July visit. Unfortunately, this place was a disappointment. I'd like to point out some pros and cons, hopefully for the owner to take away as positive suggestions for improvements. Pros: Friendly and hardworking staff. Good location in the middle of downtown. Cons: Servers were doing their best, but they were seriously overworked given the layout and conditions of the restaurant . Hostess was also very nice, but again overworked and struggled to help customers know how long they would need to wait, etc. Weiner Schnitzel, German Potato Salad, and Spaetzel were bland . Really bland. When we asked about this, they brought us a prepared cup of salt and pepper. Seems like we were definitely not the first to ask about this. Once again I have to thank my fellow Yelpers for pointing me to a tasty destination. (Looking at you Hannah S!) Thanks to them I knew I was looking for an entrance down an alley. My SO totally missed it as I veered off and 'disappeared'. Once in the door a steep staircase up leads to the restaurant. A hostess stand at the top asks that you wait to be seated. On our week day visit in November, only a few tables were occupied and we got to choose our seats. The hostess was our waitress and the bartender. The kitchen is 'open' to the dining area via a 'pass thru' window for order pick-up by staff. The bar is small with only a few seats and a small area of tables. All together, at a guess, there are just over a dozen total tables for maybe a 50 person occupancy? The decor is a mix of European beer garden and gifts from regular customers. Our waitress was excellent. Very friendly and when I mentioned food sensitivities, she brought me a list the Chef created of possible allergens in their recipes. A welcome surprise. We both enjoyed our meals. Good quality. Tasty. The photo of my Salmon does not do justice to the size of this meal. The portion is large and I didn't eat all the potatoes because I was full. I would have liked more cucumber salad w/o the radish garnish. I love German cucmber salad w/dill dressing. This one was good. Just wish there was more. There is one restrrom for all at the top of the stairs. A couple of highchairs are available for small guests. Paeking on street or in a nearby public lot. The atmosphere itself is pretty neat. There is some vintage posters on the wall and other European type decoration scattered throughout. Ordered the Bavarian pretzel with the beer cheese. It was quite good and came out super hot. The mustards and beer cheese were also delicious. For my main course, I ordered the Jägerschnitzel with spätzel and sauerkraut. The service was super slow. There was only one waitress and I felt bad for her. She was working super hard, but despite her efforts it was difficult for her to keep up with the demand of the guests. The vibe was somewhat rustic. It bothered me that there were a lot of flies flying around the restaurant. The decor is Bavarian with blue and white diamond check flags hanging. Located upstairs on Front Street in picturesque downtown Poulsbo, this restaurant boasted a full bar and great food at a reasonable price. I enjoyed meeting an older couple there who was looking for the same restaurant at the same time. They were in town for their 50th anniversary, so I waited until they had ordered dessert and secretly paid for their meal. Needless to say they were sincerely surprised and it made their day. The service was excellent and the nice lady who had my table took care of me to my complete satisfaction. I took it slow going back down the stairs as my knees both hurt after so many years having a high impact job in the military, but I made it just fine. We got the pretzel - which was so good! Definitely enough to fill you up some. We also got a pork schnitzel sandwich each, one with a side of warm potato salad (don't knock it till you try it). Although when we were going to order food , noticing the menu was not the best and I was there for German food and there was a lack of many options. Food was fine, if a bit under-seasoned. My main issue was with the incredibly dangerous exit. Coming out the door as a first-time customer, I didn't recall that upon entering, you have to step directly up from the alley through the door. On my way out, I forgot to account for the fact that you have to step one step DOWN immediately upon opening the door, rather than there being a slope or small step at the exit. This caused me to catapult out the door onto the bricks and roll across and hit the opposite wall. I wrenched my knee, scraped my knuckles, tore three fingernails, and ended up with a huge lump on my hip. I credit my relatively good level of fitness for the fact that I wasn't seriously injured, but imagine if an elderly or disabled person experienced the same fall. This entrance/step CANNOT be compliant with safety codes and definitely should be addressed ASAP! read more

We've traveled all around Europe and they do a great job of bringing the experience here to the lovely PNW! They have a very decent menu with something for everyone and a wide variety of schnitzels. I've only ever had schnitzel in Berlin and Vienna so I was very excited to try one of theirs and opted for their Jaeger-Schnitzel which is the traditional breaded pork cutlet but it's topped with a lovely mushroom gravy which is what makes it "jaeger" lol. It comes with two sides so I opted for traditional spätzle (egg noodles) and a green salad. All of it was top notch and VERY authentic - was just as delicious as the dishes I tried over in Europe - I loved it!! So if you love traditional schnitzel, I can highly recommend it! My hubby went for their salmon dinner which comes with mashed potatoes and cucumber salad. The salmon was very fresh and cooked perfectly with great flavor - very quality piece of fish. All our food was wonderful! Our server was just lovely - very friendly, helpful, and super attentive. Prices are what you'd expect- not too bad considering how touristy the area can be. You can't beat the cozy vibes and their location - right next door to another must-visit in Poulsbo, Sluy's Bakery - and the perfect place for dessert after your meal here! The views from their patio seating area are excellent!! You can see the whole stretch of the adorable downtown area as well as Liberty Bay and forested hills off in the distance - magnificent!! Their indoor seating is cozy and they even have a "pub" section for a nice drink with friends! Excellent upstairs pub in the heart of Poulsbo. They have been doing their German / European centric menu for 20+ years. I can see more years in their future. I wanted chicken schnitzel which was not on the menu. They had veal and pork. "No problem" was their reply. Sided with a warm German potato salad and a nice dill pickle spear, that made for a nice sandwich plate. Nice beer selection but as travelers we did not partake. My wife and I met three old friends here for lunch. We're Kitsap County locals, so have all eaten here before. Service was a bit slow (possibly due to an influx of visitors to old town Poulsbo due to the Presidents' Day holiday), but fortunately we were in no hurry. Our server Olivia didn't look like she had any time to spare. My wife ordered The Original Reuben (with "house-made dressing and the best quality corned beef, Swiss cheese and sauerkraut") with a green salad ($18.95) and I had the pork Schnitzel Sandwich ($16.95), "schnitzel, mustard, mayo, tomato and greens on German Rye". Both sandwiches were really delicious. My only complaint: I asked for mustard on the side, as I often don't like certain mustards. But my sandwich came with the side of mustard AND mustard on the sandwich. One of our friends ordered the same sandwich and I'm thinking that Olivia or the kitchen staff put the side of mustard on the wrong plate because my friend's sandwich came with no mustard at all. A small detail perhaps, but an annoyance still. The salads were a great combination of salad green with cucumber and radish. But none of the greens or veggies were cut small enough to fit in a normal sized mouth. Jeez! Is it that much of a problem to tear them into smaller bites? I suppose I could have asked for a knife (the only utensil you get at the table is a fork), but who cuts their green salad with a knife? This is NOT a romantic destination if that's what you're looking for. It gets pretty noisy. And if that wasn't enough, the most distressing, annoying, disturbing thing was someone in the kitchen was apparently pounding flat the next week's pork for schnitzels. The loud pounding went on for the entire hour+ that we were there! I was close to yelling PLEASE SHUT UP WITH THE INFERNAL POUNDING! Pound before opening or after closing, please. Four stars if not for the pounding. So...food was tasty, service worked, prices for Poulsbo were about as expected, noise level was horrendous! And for seniors like us, be advised: there is a pretty long, steep climb of stairs up to the restaurant. Might return, might not. Don't go in the summer or during holidays if you don't like crowds. We started with a "huge"-size Bavarian pretzel and got two orders of the wiener schnitzel and one classic (pork) schnitzel. The schnitzels were exceedingly underwhelming. Nothing on the plate had any seasoning. Bland schnitzel, bland German potato salad, bland spätzle, and bland/canned sauerkraut. I've had hospital food that was better seasoned. Also, the veal in the wiener schnitzel wasn't pounded well and was cooked too quickly on heat that was too high, so it was super tough and chewy (what a waste of veal!). I'm so sad that the food here was so bad. Ten extra seconds of effort and even just a salt shaker could have saved this place from going to the "do not return" list. :( read more

Schnitzel looked good and has nice crispy coating but was lacking any seasoning. I asked for gravy to add some flavor. Gravy had a bit more salt and flavor but ultimately it wasn't enough to elevate this dish. Spaetzle was inedible for me, completely tasteless.
