From the moment I walked in, he greeted me like we'd been friends since childhood and cracked a joke within 30 seconds!! The man could host his own Netflix special and still get your oil changed in record time. He's got stories and opinions! But here's the kicker: beneath all the laughs, this place is solid. Quick service, great value, no sneaky upsells, and everything explained clearly. I left with clean oil, good vibes, and honestly a better mood than I came in with. TL;DR: Not a fan of sales tactics & techs not checking their work. Full story: I'd previously been to Tire Choice after ordering a pair of tires off of Amazon in October 2023. It was a recommended installer by Amazon. The desk/tech guy named Dave was extremely helpful and friendly, so much so that when it came time to schedule my next visit last month, I actually set an appointment online and bought the second pair directly from them despite it being pricer than what I could have ordered online. Back then, this shop was an easy 5-star establishment. So why the lone star now? Sadly, Dave seems to have left as well as the integrity/workmanship. The service I requested was mounting/balancing the new tires... no rotation needed since I'd just rotated the tires. I wrote this in the notes section. Their website also offered a free alignment check, so I added that as well. Estimate was $520. Since this was short notice and I had business calls that morning, I'd texted my spouse (V) to give them a call and verify they had the tires. V confirmed the tires were in stock, but he relayed that I needed to get down there immediately. It was a bit awkward since it sounded as if there was a major rush... there were zero people and two cars in the parking lot. Alright, maybe he misheard? Fast forward to signing on the estimate before work: The new tech/service writer attempted to have me sign off on a $740 estimate. I'd read through it and was wondering why they tacked on $130 for an alignment service. He stated they just add that on and will only charge it if they have to adjust my alignment. "But I have a modified suspension... last I understand, shops like Tire Choice and Firestone won't touch non-stock alignment." When he realized I wouldn't sign off on the $130, he ripped up the estimate and reprinted it. Again, Estimate was over $600... the additional $80 was for roadside hazard insurance. I declined and he scoffed: "But what if you get a nail in your tire or there's a manufacturer's defect?" I tried to respectfully explain I hadn't intended to buy insurance and asked why this was added. He then states, "I swear, that's what I quoted your husband over the phone." I immediately called to check if V had agreed to the insurance... V states price nor insurance ever came up in conversation. The tech begrudgingly finds the free code as if it was inconvenient (had it on my phone) and prints the third quote. I sign off on this and was getting ready to post up at the bar top with a computer plug. He mentions it's going to take several hours. "No worries, it's fine, I've got hours of work to do." Sure enough, they put the car on the alignment rack, see that it's modified, and state they'd need an alignment kit to work on it (note: no alignment kit exists for that suspension brand... I'd know since I'm the one who installed the front/rear suspension). Though I was out in an hour and wasn't planning on writing a review, the car sounded strange while I was driving. I got home, parked to get the MFG week/year, and was annoyed enough to make this post: of the two tires installed, one of them was installed incorrectly (the "INSIDE" wall was clearly posted on the outside of the tire). Photo below. The uncomfortable sales tactics and lack of inspection prior to turning the vehicle over to the customer really bothered me. Some friends who are small business owners demanded I go get a refund and report this location to Chamber of Commerce or BBB. I feel like I've already spent enough time and money on this, so I won't bother, but hope this "buyer beware" helps others consider what they're getting into should they decide to go to this shop. read more

He also told me that the call center does this often. How does this even happen? Even if the employee sees a "tire alignment" appointment, they didn't call my number and tell me not to come in. I came in here with my heart set on some Goodyear Assurance Max Life tires. They gave me the estimate for tires and install, but also told me of a sale they were having on some comparable tires that was about $600 cheaper. After doing some of my own research and listening to their pros and cons for both brands, I went with the sale. They got me in and out as a walk in no problem. Purchased one tire on 9/11/23 after buying a full set a few months prior. Unfortunately hit a pot hole on the freeway. Bought the only tire my size in stock. They tried to upsell me on a new set that would be available in a few days but, my tires weren't even 4 months old. I did purchase the recommended hazard warranty for a small fee of $22.72 and said that if anything happened to the tire for 12,000 miles or 12 months they would replace it. It also says on my purchase agreement that I have a 40,000 mile warranty. Today 5/4/24 less than 12,000 miles and less then 12 months I have a blow out on the freeway same tire and have my car towed to the Tire Choice. The man at the counter Herm a fill in assistant manager from Castro Valley store who lied to me and told me his name was Matt ( he is impersonating Matt who I found out is the old manager) views my previous tire purchase and warranty. Says I should have a proration depending on wear. He views the tire, that still would be in good condition minus the blowout since I have only driven about 6,000 miles since the purchase of the one tire. He comes in and tells me I have no coverage because I bought a cheap tire and it's not repairable and he won't warranty cheap tires. I explained it's the tire you guys sold me with a warranty and the only one in stock on 9/11/23. He said my guys here upsell everything their is no way they would have recommend that cheap tire. I had to choose it. The guy who sold you the tire is no longer here and that's probably why. He said he would have never sold me one tire only 2 and a higher grade tire that you get what you pay for. Now this may be true, but it was what they had available and they still sold me a warranty and my tire didn't even last 8 months which is 12,000 miles 1 yr or 40,0000 miles. Which is all clearly stated on my receipt. So they need to honor the agreement. Which I will also attach. He told me that even though I don't need a new front tire on the passenger side I should replace it and buy 2 new front tires at $450 a piece plus tax. I contacted Les Swab next door and they had 2 high end tire brands in stock for $324 and $359 dollars. He went on to tell me I am contacting his competitor that he does not recommend. That they put 4 lug nuts instead of 5 on his car and he is still frustrated and angry and will never use them. This was before he got into the tire business. I am in shock at this point because he thinks I would take his advice after his horrible customer service paired with his lack of care, up charges and refusal to honor the purchase agreement. Before leaving I asked if he could provide me with the store mangers information or the district or area manger. He looked at me with a straight face and said no I can look it up online. I then said so you are refusing to give me the information I need to escalate this experience? Are you the manger? He said no. Another customer walked in for a quote just wanting to know if the tire he needed was in stock. Herm gets out a pen and note pad and wants to write down all their personal information first. Frustrated at his approach he asked can you just give me a quote and to know surprise the tire he needed wasn't in stock. So he left visibly annoyed with his experience with Herm. I then asked again for his Manager's information and after a pause and a straight face he says Matt! He is muttering about how if it was a nail repair he would fix it, but anything else is not covered. I then ask him what is his name. He says Matt! (Which was a lie) his name is Herm. So then your the manager I asked you that earlier. He nods. I was exhausted at this point. I left and called AAA and requested to be towed to any other Tire Facility. Stay away from Tire Choice in Martinez on Alhambra at all costs if Herm is there. Probably one of my worst experiences in life dealing with a Tire facility. My last experience was great with the previous manager. I believe his name was Dave. They desperately need him back! I would have just bought the new tire and waited if he wasn't a dishonest rude individual overcharging for his poor service. I never right reviews, this 1 Star for Herm is a must! read more

I had an appointment at 9am and was told my car would be ready at 10:30. I called at 11:00am & was told they hadn't started my car yet, but it should be done by noon. I arrived at 1pm & my car is up on the lift & they just started the oil change. It's now supposed to be done by 1:30. We love when you get quality service nowadays it's hard to come by. 2nd time here & wanted recommend this shop if you are doing research & need a place. I've got service here and have been served with high quality care. We needed brakes, long story short our brake light when on one day prior so it was a pretty dyer need. Quotes & Estimates are give as per usual. Cecilio Bustillos & Jenner took care of us, (They both deserve a raise btw.) I love to acknowledge the hard work & labor they provided. Even the parts they needed got delivered in the same day. The following is what I emailed to Tire Choice, Martinez on July 3rd, when they said they could not help me quickly for simply pulling off one tire to inspect for a possible low leak from a nail. They would need at least 2 to 3 hours as their techs NOW MUST & ARE REQUIRED to perform a TOTAL INSPECTION on ALL CUSTOMERS CARS. Though this is FREE, does this even make sense when someone is having an obvious tire problem? Tire Choice: I have chosen to go to one of your competitors instead, as they are now checking on my one tire without having a 2 to 3 hour total inspection of my entire car. I am truly disappointed in Tire Choice. We have been going to that same location since Sam Barone owned and operated the Goodyear store. (An honest helpful man) After his retirement and all the different changes of ownership, we have stuck by you, especially since manager Dave returned. However now he just retired. We have stayed through thick and thin. Loyal Customers -- But NO longer.... Requiring your tech people to perform a 2 to 3 hour "free" inspection for each customer is ridiculous. I only needed my back passenger tire inspected of a possible nail in it. This shows me that all you want to do is to try and upsell to perhaps find some other problems or even possibly make up a problem? Today was not the day to do that to me .... What a horrible experience! Ordered tires and scheduled an appointment. Drove 30 minutes to get 4 tires installed and when I arrived, I was told they only had two. I was also told that appointments are made in the Philippines but they try to make it sound like they are speaking to someone local. When I arrived, I was greeted and asked if I was there for a pickup. I explained that I had come in for my scheduled service. However, I was then informed that they couldn't assist me because they were short-staffed. I reminded the staff member that I had personally made the appointment with him over the phone the day before, to which he replied, "Oh, I should have emailed you." While an email would have been helpful, by this point, I felt like I had wasted my time trying to get my car serviced at this shop. They are not professional. Did bring my car to do spark plugs change. They haven't done nothing wasted around 4 hours of my time. Called me said we will do diagnostic. After diagnostic they said they won't able do this job. Didn't change no spark plugs. Charged me 99.99$ for wasting my time. Went auto zone right next to this shop, bought spark plugs and changed it myself. It took me couple hours but anyway it was end of the day I tried safe time by letting this guy do the repair at lunch time. But ended up doing it myself. Then I called next auto repair shop they charge for 4 spark plugs charge 180$, this guys charge 250$ and didn't wanted do the job after wasting my time. Overpriced, not professional, after they checked car they didn't put engine cover all the way in. The reception guy was very nice by the way. Very low AC inside. Overall experience 1 out of 10. Don't go there One more thing after wasting 4 hours of my time and when I paid 99$ and they told me they won't do job they said we need one hour to put everything back. Luckily it wasn't one hour they gave me back keys after 15 min. There plenty of auto repair shops within 1-2 miles better check them. read more

I purchased four new tires from simple tire.com. Tire choice was one of the preferred dealers for insulation I live locally so I thought it was going to be a great experience boy was I wrong! I showed up and of course, all the bays were empty. They did not have a customer and it was the middle of the day. First, they weren't happy that I had my own tires and they would've preferred that I bought the tires from them. The guy originally told me he was going to charge me $500 just to install the tires! He then somehow dropped the price to $200, which I was willing to pay. Then what seemed to be a district manager walked up wrote a note to him and slid it to him across the counter in front of me and then the price all of a sudden went up to $400. I thank them for their time and told them I would be going elsewhere. I ended up going to Diablo Valley Bill's Tire Services and they were very friendly took care of my tires quickly and I only paid $140 was out within 40 minutes. Tire Choice was decent a few years back. Their old manager, Dave, was a straight shooter, knowledgable, helpful, skillful, etc. I've recently given their new management a shot. I just got off the phone with a guy named Herm. I simply asked Herm for a price to patch a tire, so that I might refer a friend for a simple repair. I explained to Herm that it wasn't an old tire and that the screw was in a place conducive to an easy, safe repair. Herm kept me on the phone for five minutes grilling me on where the tire was purchased and the exact age of the tire, refusing to give me a quote. I said, "let's assume the tire is in excellent condition save for the screw in the tread. Will you please just tell me the cost?" He would not, claiming he needed to know the exact age of the tire before he could give me a quote. He could've said "free" at this point; all I could think to do was tell my friend, "Never go to this place.," and leave a review in an effort to save others from a terrible experience. I just moved to Martinez and I needed a tire repair. I'm very happy I found Tire Choice. I called and spoke to Dave the manager who was very pleasant and helpful. When I arrived they were able to take me in right away and found a small hole in my tire, repair it and get me on my way. Dave is very personable and we even had a conversation about Martinez. While I was waiting for my car he ordered pizza for the team for lunch and when it was delivered he even offered me a slice. You can tell Dave cares about his customers and his employees. It's the small things that truly matter and I recognize that being a small business owner myself. Bring your car here!!! I recently brought my car to around 12pm one day and picked it up before closing. They efficiently fixed my brakes and rotors at a very reasonable price. Dave helped me out so much and is very imformation in regards to any repairs that is needed. I ran over a nail and had to get my tire repaired ASAP. The nail was in the middle of the tire and far from the edges, so I specifically made an appointment after calling to verify they do repair tires (and not just replace with new ones). After coming into the store, they said there was no way they could fix the tire as it was too close to the edge. They then quoted me for over $600 for a brand new tire. I knew this wasn't true after showing a couple friends that verified it should be fixable. I then drove to another competitor in Lafayette who said after literally 30 seconds after seeing the tire that it's an easy fix. I came last week after I made an appt and the rep on the phone said 45 minutes. I arrived and they said they had cars and it would be 3-4 hours. What was the point of the appt then??? I called and spoke to somebody on site today at 9:15 and they said to come in as there was 3 open bays. I rushed over. I've been here 2 hours and it's not done. They tell me after an hour or more they are out of my oil... how do you not know you are out??? You do oil changes, you should be ordering when it's low. Now I'm stuck and my boss is pissed because I left work with the understanding it would be done within a lunch break hour. When I asked for my car they said I have to wait because the oil isn't here yet after being told it would be 5-10 minutes. There is an auto parts store down the street, go buy some. I checked all the tires and the one on the driver side. The cap would not come off. I returned to the business to get it fixed and they told me I needed to make an appointment and leave my car for a while. It seemed like a quick fix to me. Have bought 2 tires from here and it'll be the last 2. Bought the tires at the beginning of last year. Bought another 2 somewhere else. One of theirs has a bubble in the sidewall. I called them twice to see if that was covered in the warranty or I had to purchase yet another tire. Show up to my appointment for the guy at the front desk (not even a tech) to spend barely 30 seconds looking at it to tell me they were just going to put the tire back on and re rotate the tires back to where they were before I got them rotated when buying the second set of tires. I originally stated that everywhere I have read and people that I've talked to have suggested that driving on a tire with a bubble in the sidewall like that isn't safe or recommended. They didn't even try to suggest purchase of a new tire from them, they tried to upsell other services though the entire time I sat waiting for them to put my tire back on. This is also after shaming me for going somewhere else for services for my vehicle because I "cheated" on them. He also kept talking about how expensive it is to fix my VW and suggested that I get Toyota or Honda. All in all, I felt extremely uncomfortable and left without a solution to my problem and the tire with the bubble in it put back on my car and was told it's fine. I will much rather go to a competitor as he called them and leave with my problem fixed. I needed to get it all fixed asap before heading back to San Jose and this was the only place that was open on a Sunday.
