I've ordered from Southern Soul several times and everything I had was packed with flavor and good portions. I recently did a catering order for work which consisisted of their glazed salmon, garlic butter salmon, mac and cheese, yams, cabbage, honey butter corn bread and the off the porch punch. Everything was fresh, hot, delicious like always, and the presentation was on point. Days later my team is still talking about how amazing the food was. They ate down and left no crumbs LOL! The best soul food, 10/10 would highly recommend. Food: 10/10 Customer service: 10/10

I've been here a few times and can also vouch for the Fried Chicken and Candied Yams. Most recently I ordered: the Salmon Bites plate, sides were Greens w/Smoked Turkey & Mac and Cheese, & it's comes with a very flavorful rice & a cornbread muffin. Salmon bites were NOT dry, just fried perfectly and seasoned well. The greens were so good, even the stems did not bother me because they were tender. Mac and cheese is really good in my opinion and the rice and cornbread just round it out well. Located in a ghost kitchen so very easy to miss if you drive by or do a pickup order, but trust it's worth it. Great food at a great price.

Yes... you read that right, check in process. We live up the street and it was our first time trying this spot to finally see what the buzz was about. I paid for the food using Apple Pay and had my husband pick it up. I did read that when picking up, you need to have a matching ID and the CC used to pay. So I sent my husband with both. The security who checks you in gave him such a hard time about it and denied his entrance because it needs to be the same name as the person on the receipt! So I had to go. I arrived, parking is difficult to find although it's in a residential area. So after I showed him my ID, CC, and Email confirmation, he then has to write down all this info from your email?? He said the last 4 digits didn't match my CC, so I let him know I paid with Apple Pay. He then asked me to open my Apple Pay App to then look at the history?! The food is good and flavorful , but in LA, you can find that elsewhere without all the hassle. We will not be going back, that's for sure. Hope I can save someone a trip if they're traveling far for this to pick up for a friend or spouse.

They serve classic soul food in generous, flavorful portions that are sure to satisfy. I tried the short ribs for lunch--the meat was more like a slow-cooked brisket, incredibly tender and moist, served over a bed of rice and smothered in gravy. Mention the name Dylan's and everyone in my family immediately says bring me something back it's not cheap either it can get pricey and make sure family hands you some cash for their food because I'm so not sharing. I'm a longtime customer 20+ years deep ever since they had restaurants in Marina Del Rey and Mr Dylan the dad ran it. I have literally eaten at every location they have and the restaurant on Crenshaw is my favorite. Located on a busy street with limited parking the area is crowded with people. I walk up and immediately start drooling the smell of soul food in the air is very intoxicating. my go to meal is almost always oxtails or fried chicken with a side of dressing greens macaroni and cheese potato salad and candied sweet potatoes. Here's what I ordered. Oxtails Tender and delicious smothered in gravy seasoned to perfection. 10/10 Dressing Thick fluffy and delicious just like my mom made. And drizzled with gravy it's the bomb. I0/10 Macaroni And Cheese It's good but needs a little more seasoning but it's still delicious. 8/10 Greens Tender perfection and seasoned very well. 8/10 Potato Salad Delicious it's a must have part of my meal I love it. 8/10 Candied Yams Tender buttery and sweet. 10/10 Last visit I had Yellow cake and chocolate frosting it's soo yummy. 10/10 I didn't get any this time and regretted it when I got home. lol It's always super crowded at Dylan's so be prepared to wait and believe you me it's definitely worth waiting for. I'm having a nice drive back home to Long Beach until next time. Just me Shawn C.

Fried Chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes. 2. Meatloaf with rice and gravy and cabbage. 3. Fried chicken dinner with greens, macaroni and cheese, and dressing with gravy. A guy at a nearby table mentioned that the chicken was overcooked but we requested a light fry and really enjoyed the chicken. The green beans were seasoned perfectly with sliced carrots and onions. The only two issues were the cabbage wasn't seasoned well and needed to be cooked longer. Also the cornbread was not sweet and was reheated in a microwave. Overall all of us enjoyed our meal! Plus the strawberry lemonade was delicious and not too sweet. If back in Cali, I'll be back!

But it wasn't over cooked so it could be saved. Glad I checked my order because it wasn't correct. I ordered the dinner plate with 3 sides. The rice and gravy(barely any gravy), greens were undercooked, cabbage (mistakenly placed in the container) under cooked & Mac n cheese no flavor and kinda of mushy. The peach cobbler is usually better tasting. But yesterday it was missing something. Maybe they changed the cook. I was highly disappointed after paying close to $40.

We were greeted at the door by security, who opened it for every customer. His attitude was pleasant, and he had a genuine smile. Not one of those false demonstrations of civility. When you walk in, the smell of the food automatically turns you from hungry to excitedly starving. One of the keys to good food is the aroma from the kitchen. We were ushered to the back, Sunday Church pun intended. Our server got us wonderful drinks. Then we ordered our food, and when those soulful southern dishes arrived, it was the crown jewel of the experience. They looked as good as they tasted. We not only enjoyed the food, but Lonell came and chatted with us. He was genuinely concerned with the quality of our food and service, which was exceptional. On the way out, we asked for a picture and promised to come back whenever we are in the LA area. Please try this for yourself and post your favorite food.

When I inquired, I was told, yes, "Dinner" menus are also the weekend. Okie doke. Found out the "Muddy Water" drink on the menu is lemonade, sweet tea and berry juice. My friends and I decided to each order something different so we could sample many things. Chicken plate, salmon plate and meatloaf plate. Each plate came w/2 sides and a "hot water" cornbread muffin. We went with mac n cheese, cooked cabbaged, sweet potato, collard greens, string beans and mashed potatoes as our sides. I hadn't mentioned any reviews to my friends because I wanted their unbiased opinions. Food arrived, they dug in and I started taking pics. IYKYK! lol! Before I could set my phone down the first remark was, 'Wow! That's salty!' Wellllll...Thats what Yelpers had mentioned, but I couldn't believe it was THAT salty. Then I took a bite. Yes, indeed, salty. Everything, except the sweet potatoes was salty. Even the corn muffin was topped with a salty butter "wash". I think we all decided the salmon was the best. The sweet potatoes tasted sugary, which I honestly didn't mind cuz I got a sweet tooth. But my friends passed after a taste. The mac n cheese was good, but I just took a taste from the side to see if I wanted to order an extra side for the table. I didn't. My friend wasn't wild about the texture of her meatloaf. It looked like a hunk of dense cake, it was so finely ground. Not hand formed ground meat like we grew up eating. We skipped dessert and left some things behind. I plan on checking the reviews again before the year ends and see if comments are still talking about the salt content. I'll be back if the salt is reduced because the staff was very nice and attentive and this is a lovely space I hope will be successful for years. Cheers! "CC"
