As soon as I walked in, I knew I was at the right place at the right time! The food smelled so good!!! My goodness!! I ordered the 3 salmon tacos and a peach lemonade. 100/100! After the first bite I started dancing. I lowkey wanted to go back inside and look the chef in the eyes! Like this you!!!!??? Have you ever had food so good you're already planning the next visit? This food was so good I wish I would've waited until I got home. Just so I could watch a good movie while I enjoyed my meal and rub my toes together read more

I usually don't leave negative reviews, but I felt this experience should be shared. From the moment I walked in, the staff came across as rude and unwelcoming. I was polite and respectful throughout the interaction, but I didn't feel that same respect was returned. I understand that working in customer service can be stressful, and everyone has difficult days. However, customers deserve to be treated with basic courtesy. The overall attitude made me feel uncomfortable, so I decided to leave instead of continuing the interaction. I hope management takes this as constructive feedback and encourages staff to be more friendly and respectful toward customers. A simple smile and a kind attitude can make a huge difference. read more

Order ahead. Even though I was the only 1 in there, I had a long wait. The lady working the window was very nice. The place is small, walk up window,,,,,,people were coming in & getting orders but I guess they can't cook. This was my 1st time & no disrespect, but I'm not planning on going back. The taco was fried too hard, that chili cup was dry, the fried wings were ok. read more

I would like to start off by saying the food here is good, I ordered my food while ringing me up, I notice a different price than what was on the menu. I spoke to the cashier about the price, I was told it's because of inflation, and the Owner spoke to me and said I was the Only Customer to complain. I really thought that was rude of Kim the owner. The prices are marked on tape; with the inflation she should be able to change the price with no problem. read more

I'm not sure who the owner is and I'm not sure if that was the owner that spoke to me when I got there, but a woman with large square glasses was extremely rude and snippy. She says let me get the other people's food out first cause I don't want their food to sit and then I'll take your order. I nodded my head and I stepped away. She snaps, "Is that OK?" I look behind me thinking she was talking to someone else. She snaps again, "Miss you didn't say nothing, know you heard me?" So, I said "yes"and stepped out of line. As I was waiting, my mind thought you're having a bad day and you could do anything to my food. Let me get outta here. So, I won't be patronizing 5 Star Kitchen. I went back for a second time to this tasty spot - Kim (the owner) is comedic, full of life and you can taste the love in her food. I ordered two hard shelled chicken tacos, French fries and a SOUL cake ---all I can say is fire...heat....and too lit!!!The chicken tacos are sooo good shredded seasoned chicken, finely shredded lettuce, tomatoes, red onions and cheese!! I am amazed at how delicious the French fries are they remind me of Kennebec potatoes- if you haven't tried them come one cone all and taste these French fries!! The soul cake is so flavorful cornbread, chili, cheese green onions, and rice. This perfected mix of flavor combination takes you to a place of comfort especially on rainy days like this one!!! read more

5 Star Kitchen - Soul - Tacos Near Me - Los Angeles, California

TL;DR--Yup. Yup. Mhmmm. Yup. They live up to their name, and I will *absolutely* be back, as 5 Star Kitchen is now a permanent bookmark fuh' me! ‍‍‍ -- The Long Way: I had bookmarked 5 Star Kitchen a whiiiiillllleee ago (shout out to @latryguy aka Alex Cottrell), and I finally had a chance to make my way to Vernon x Arlington. The Pros: - The vibes were real cozy. I walked in and a regular customer greeted me ; Chef KJ is such a warm soul, and you can tell it's a fun time working in her kitchen by the way she interacts with the rest of the cooks - They cook your food once you place your order (if ordering at the counter), so it's going to be fresh, and won't get all sad and cold on your drive back home. Took about 15 mins for my food to come out - Portion sizes absolutely match the prices; I had to do a two-handed bag carry back to the car - I had to move my bag of food to an unreachable spot in my car so I wouldn't be tempted to eat all the fries on my way home. Their are fries made with *real* potatoes, and some of them still had the peel on Also, I actually didn't even need to move the bag away from me in the car because there was absolutely no way I would have been able to eat all the fries on my drive home! Their standard serving is the equivalent of a large or XL fries at some other places - Had a cheeseburger on brioche; at one point in time, the burger patty fell out the bun while I was eating and I kept taking a few more bites before reassembling because the bun+toppings+sauce alone still hella smacked - Also got a Soul Cake for dinner. Best dinner I've had all week ‍ (and I still had half a bag of leftover fries from my lunch!) - Burger combo comes with a kool-aid or lemonade; I got a lemonade with blood orange flavoring, but there's 5+ more flavors you can choose from. Apparently peach raspberry is their best seller (I think?). I mixed mine with some seltzer and ‍ The Deltas: - Couldn't tell ya because I didn't have any - Maaaaaybe street parking can get tricky based on the time of day? I went around lunchtime on a Tuesday, and even though there's street sweeping on one side of the street, it was easy for me to find a spot The Other: - They accept cash and card w/ an addt'l $1 card fee - Taco Tuesdays = $1 off all orders of tacos. Ground turkey tacos are their best seller - Maybe a controversial take, but I like my chili with beans, and for the beans-to-ground meat ratio to be in favor of the beans My Soul Cake def had both beans and ground meat, but it was a more meat-forward chili. Still happily ate the entire thing tho! - Please remember y'all, THEY DON'T ACCEPT PHONE ORDERS! Chef will kindly remind you of that when you call, but her answering the phone to tell you that means less time she gets to spend less time throwing down in the kitchen :) read more

I should've reviewed 5 Star Kitchen a long time ago. The food is always on point. The owner is a sweet heart. I come often & she remembers my name & my order all the time. The deep fried tacos, fries & soul cake are my go to menu items. read more

I had seen several social media posts about the soul cake and tacos so of course I incorporated stopping by on a Saturday afternoon into my schedule. Street parking is available in front on Vernon. There were quite a few patrons in line, some newbies like myself along with neighborhood regulars. The friendly cashier provided the estimated wait time before ordering which I appreciated so patrons can decide if they have the time to wait on their freshly prepared order. The wall menu has the listing of options however the prices aren't displayed until your making payment on the POS system. I ordered the chicken & Turkey tacos along side a small soul cake. The turkey tacos and soul cake were my favorites of the three. Next time I want to try the burgers and the turkey taco again. read more

As the saying goes, it's in the name, or something like that. We ordered party wings (sweet chili), Cheeseburger meal which included fries and a drink, and deep fried tacos. The wings were the BOMB dot com! They had the right amount of sauce yet were still crispy and tender to the bone and fresh out the grease. The sweet chili sauce was the best chili sauce I've ever had. Mildly sweet with only a small kick. I cleaned the bones. Definitely will be ordering these again. The burger was throwback type good. The way I remember real burgers tasting back in the day good. It was juicy with a tender bun that was the perfect amount of bread to engulf that tender flavorful truly 100% beef. When I want a burger this is what I'll be craving! The fries were really, really good. If you like Wings Stop's fries, you will love these. My least favorite were the fried turkey tacos, the meat did not have flavor really although I loved the crispy tortillas. I will be trying the other tacos options in the future because maybe it was just the turkey meat on these. The drinks available are several lemonade flavor options and Kool-aid. I'm not a Koolaid drinker usually but I know how it should taste and there's is classic. They get really busy so it is best to place your order online for pickup. I placed my order in store, it was ready in about 25 minutes but it was well worth the wait. The only reason it's 4 instead of 5 stars is: My initial experience was disappointing. I'd seen a video on Tiktok and the food looked so good my mouth and mind were set on going the following Saturday. It was a very hot day, I had been driving for hours, I was tired, hungry and just wanted a shower, food, and my bed. But what I wanted to eat was that cheesy soul cake and those deep fried tacos I'd seen. I'd been holding off eating the entire morning in anticipation final of it. I had to pass my home to go there and in L.A. traffic that added an hour to travel time. I was so tired I pulled over to double check their hours. The website hours told me I was good but I know sometimes websites aren't updated so I called the number. It went straight to voicemail and messages were full! I was more encouraged by this because I thought "they must be super busy" so I continued on. But I got there and they were closed. No sign or other indications why they weren't open and the hours posted indicated they should be open as well. I stood around a few minutes as if someone would show up and apologize for opening late. People showed up but they were potential customers like me. Disappointed, hungry, and tired I headed home and made my own chili pie/soul cake. I left a message on their IG that day and they responded saying that had a catering scheduled and would be closed the next few days. I am glad to know their business is growing and thriving in this manner because the food is really that good. However, I hope the team grows also so that both sides of the business can work simultaneously and that they provide notifications on their website, VMware, and social media when hours change due to special events. Also they need to add prices to the menu wall. I had to wait until it was my turn to order to ask the prices and there was a line of people waiting. I was ordering several items and needed to keep tabs on how much I was spending. read more

I used to love the chicken, but have not been back in months. I am elderly with osteoarthritis. My experience has been I get a notification that my order is ready, but get there and it is not. That's okay. I like hot food. The problem is there is usually nowhere to sit, and standing with bone one bone knee pain Is excruciating. So, for the first time ever I called to ask if my order is ready, and was rudely yelled at. A woman said, "if everybody is calling to ask if they food is ready, how am I suppose to get the orders out? I mean, y'all keep calling then get mad when your food's not ready." I remained quiet. She finally said, "yes, your order is ready." I said "thank you" and hung up. Since I had already paid for my chicken, I headed over to get it. When I got there I walked up to the window and asked, "Was that you who answered the phone?" The older woman said, "yes." A young lady working saw me, took a deep breath and turned her back, as if she already knew her boss went too far. I said, "that was quite the chastising you just gave me a few minutes ago." She apologized and said "it's frustrating when everyone calls her to ask of their orders are ready." I just looked at her. She then said, "I'm just going to stop answering the phone." My response was, "that's probably best." She gave me my food, thanked me and said "I appreciate youuuu." I just nodded and did a finger wave, and I have not gone back. Eating out is expensive, and I refuse to be over charged AND disrespected. Ma'am, God bless you on your journey. read more

Whoever answers the phone is the rudest person to ever have worked in food service. I just called: Hello Me: yes can I get a to go order Her: WE DONT DO PHONE ORDERS Me: ok so do we just go up there and order Her: WE DONT DO PHONE OORRRRRRDERRRRRRS GOOD BYE UM. I've eaten here so many times and you've ALWAYS done food orders but me asking another question just to clarify how I CAN GIVE YOU MY MONEY doesn't deserve a ghetto response. She literally sounded like teyonna Taylor in the bow wow movie: BY RANNNNNNNNN ANNNNN! Good bye is RIGHT. I'll take my money elsewhere. Update: my grandmother was actually already on the way there so I told her they ARENT taking phone orders you have to go in. She gets there and their closed to let their staff take a break. Isn't that why you hire multiple staff? So your taking a break in the middle of the day, you could have just said that over the phone instead of being rude. Do I understand breaks? Sure. Do I understand being rude for no reason? Nope. You guys clearly are making So much money you can afford to be rude to customers so I hope that keeps you afloat. read more

I went and got the Soul Cake and walked to the park. Sat down and ate the Soul Cake and had the best feeling in the world

When it comes to wings, 5 star kitchen knocks it out of the park. I ordered the sweet chili wings with fries and they were damn near a gourmet meal. The wings were meaty, fried crisp served with just the right amount of sauce and were accented with cilantro and green onion making a finish that was both bursting with flavor and refreshing. The fries were also a stand out - hand cut, fried just right, and served with a dash of Cajun seasoning that made them really elevated for what they were. As an notorious wing snob, I go to restaurants, expecting to be disappointed, but 5 star kitchen really did the damn thing. Did I mention their prices literally cannot be beat? Long story short, five star kitchen as well named. It's an easy five stars for me. I can't wait till my next meal. read more
